ITOAST is definitely one of my favs. Always a good time to listen to it
Saw Neutral Milk Hotel live earlier this year and they were the best live act I've seen. Ive only seem about 4 bands live but still, it was amazing. Was singing my heart out the whole time. Jeff looked at me
Good kid maad city is another great album. Its got a deep vibe and shit but also has a nice narrative which tells the story of a young Comptonite coming of age with his homies.
ITAOTS is probably one of the best albums i've heard. It just clicked with right away and it's right up my alley musically. Oh Comely still sends shivers down my spine.

It's bizarre because half of Neutral Milk Hotel are fucking insane people. Really out there kind of people. I guess that's what it takes to make a indie culture icon.
Well if you listen to neutral milk hotel it's obvious they're weird dudes. Listen to the lyrics and all the weird instruments and stuff, lots of surrealism in every aspect of the album.
idk, ive tried all the mucore and most of it's boring to me.

ITAOTS was aaaalright i guess but i kept wanting to turn it off anad listen to something else
man i did not enjoy that album. i dont get kendrick, just not my vibe
The album (and TDE's stuff to an extent) is like marmite, you either like it or not. I personally thought that the album had some of the best instrumentals that I've heard in a while.
Conversation getting too deep for me.

itaots is really genuinely amazing and i kind of wish certain people wouldn't disregard it as a meme album or whatever
in other news i'm finally getting into antony & the johnsons and holy shit this is the best stuff i've heard in years
Yeah aguy I know just instantly dismissed it because of the whole internet thing. Need to get over that
Unrelated note: finally engrossing myself in Outkast's discography and Damn ...
NMH in manchester was defo one of the best gigs I ever went to, although I turned up in cargo shorts and hawaiian shorts and that itself is a disaster

I'm going to see NMH this summer I think. When you disconnect ITAOTS from all the stupide meme shit it's associated with it's a really good album imo. Jeff Mangum's voice is also really nice.
that would be a fun as fuck show
also I like OAI more
idk much about the musical integrity of ITAOTS but I just like singing along to it
how about WWII concept albums, defeater??

Which albums have you been checking out? His early records are overlooked a lot of the time so if you haven't you should definitely try Closing Time and The Heart of Saturday Night.

Alright, firstly, I'm jealous of that jabberwocky lineup, fuck your awesome quality laden show lineups.
Secondly, I listened to The Heart of Saturday Night because I figured that a dude with the amount of albums he's produced, it'd be better to do the chronological order since I hadn't asked for advice on how to go about listening to him.

Smooth J and Blazo are p similar artists imo. they're instrumental mostly though. rapping is done by guest artists.

Try Trebles & Blues, Witness and Madlib. Some of Gang Starr's instrumentals are great to chill out to as well.
Also, if you can find it, try a compilation called 'Mellow Rhymes, Beats and Vibes, Vol. 2'. It's a Japanese comp of jazz hop that's the absolute best chillout music.

Saturday Night is my personal fav by him. If you want a broader idea of his work though, you should check out Bone Machine. It's got a mix of his piano ballads and messing with weird industrial dirges.
Oh and it has Goin' Out West on it so it automatically rules

Dude, holy shit that lineup has some of the best fucking shit I've seen. Jesu, Earth, Electric Wizard already make that a 'must-see' if it was in my area. but Hookworms, James Blake, Forest Swords, Chealsea Wolfe, Ben Frost and Sun Kil Moon are also there.
Fucking helllllll.
