so I realized that a lot of the music I really like is fast, energetic, and loud. I wonder what this says about me tbh.
Not much, but i wonder if the kind of music you listen to still has a bearing on your personality, like way back in the punk/grunge/hippy days. Music definitely used to affect the way people dressed and who they hung around with, i haven't really put much thought into that now though.

Music and Psychology are linked, there's no doubting that. What music you listen to does say something about you, however most of the studies on the subject seem to be narrower in scope, but there was a large scale worldwide one a few years ago.
Could the playlists lurking on your iPod really reveal information about your personality? Research conducted by psychologists Jason Rentfrow and Sam Gosling suggests that knowing the type of music you listen to can actually lead to surprisingly accurate predictions about your personality.
For example, researchers found that people could make accurate judgments about an individual's levels of extraversion, creativity and open-mindedness after listening to ten of their favorite songs. Extraverts tend to seek out songs with heavy bass lines, while those who enjoy more complex styles such as jazz and classical music tend to be more creative and have higher IQ-scores.
what music you listen to does say something about you for an example if you listen to anime music you're a massive piece of shit
They're just giving unnecessary depth to a simple subject.

"I like this noise"
"Shit, better drum up a thesis about how it's better for the brain"
All I know is that if you listen to dadrock you're a nerd
I Am The Dad Of Rocks
but forreal though I genuinely think you actually can tell a fair bit about a person from their music taste. I didn't used to think that cos hurr dont believe in stereotypes, but a lot of the time with music certain kinds of people listen to certain types of music. These aren't like super specific types of people, but like, a lot of mildly vague but related interests or attitude or whatever adds up and your music taste is part of that-- idk. I phrased that badly.
But like to put it one way using an example cos its an easy one, people who listen to metal are usually people who spend a whole load of their time on the internet at least during like their teenage years or whatever and probably still do to an extent and I say this cos you can only really find out about metal through the internet cos it's one of the less accessible genres generally. which imo is why weirdos are often metalheads!! Cos they dont have many friends but spend a lot of time on the internet. Then they disocver metal which is all angsty and angry and hell yea fuck people man!! Same story for hardcore but hardcore is less generally offensive and more just kinda gross (no hate i listen to both metal and hardcore). But also you could maybe be some /mu/ weirdo u know and like if you listen to only top 40 stuff or whatever youre probably more "normal" and "well adjusted". I'm being a bit sensationalist and stuff to get my point across more cos it's a bit harder to get into it with more subtle stuff
I think what I mean is more, your music taste isn't representative of you but you are representative of your music taste? Idk. I think there is a correlation between what you listen to and who you are. nothing set in stone of course but it's mostly because of what kind of thing appeals to what kind of person, and the ways in which you would be exposed to certain kinds of music.
Yeah I agree, I think the question is more of "Is your personality representative of what music you listen to?" or "is the music you listen to representative of your personality?"
What does being a Swans fan say about my personality?
internet weirdo
What does being a Swans fan say about my personality?
serial killer
I also listened to all of Fall Out Boy's discography today though. So what now?
What is meme-rap?
What is meme-rap?

its jams
SHIT those rhymes are fucking insane. Sick flow.
lil b, tyler, yung lean, t-time, etc
I quite liked Wolf. I wouldn't call tyler meme rap. Well, not from what I heard on Wolf. I don't know about his stuff before that
meme rap isnt literally rapping about memes btw more just internet artists rapping about internet stuff. tyler is very much an internet artist. Not a stretch to call him "meme rap" since he talks about a lot of topical stuff but not in a political sense or anything, more just random stuff
[editline]10th July 2014[/editline]
ive not listened to him since Bastard tho so I dunno if he's changed at all
All I know is that if you listen to dadrock you're a nerd
nearly every girl around our age here listens to dadrock so idk not judging people on that

Tiny bit more mature, just a tiny bit.
rock isn't my thing at all tbh, a pretty boring genre and I'm happy pop music these days isn't leaning too much towards (dad)rock anymore
Pop needs to go in the direction of chillwave.
nah, I want this to become mainstream pop

lms if you'd ''woo'' in the club with your bffs to this
dad rock is all right (I hate the term dadrock though) but overexposure can cause irritation.
WRT tyler. Yeah I can see that. His lyrics are still influenced by the internet and they can be pretty shallow but what impressed me about Wolf was the great production

Pretty much what I said a while back is that Tyler's production has matured considerably but his lyrics still need to be more consistently mature. There's flashes of brilliant writing in Wolf but it's fleeting.
I will however say that the way the all his albums interconnect as Sam's story is quite good.
i use the term dadrock to bash old music but I dont actually hate older music cos that would be stupid. Like Velvet Underground could pretty easily be categorised as "dad rock" but they are fantastic so they are not dad rock it is not a legitimate term at all
