I just found about Heypenny and French Casettes now. WHY ONLY NOW. DAMN IT.
I'm surprised no one here's mentioned asap ferg's new mixtape, even in the hiphop thread, it's pretty good. At least i think it is. Ferg's got shitloads of different producers on the album too, and for most part they kill it. It's pretty split on if it's better than Trap Lord or not. I'd say nah though.

A few years old, but very clever and well done.
The composer is clearly very talented to be able to work with the videos of Nora the cat.

I guess I'm already dead, because this is really cool. It even has a beat. I almost feel spoiled.
Jim Morrison died in 1971. Today he would be 71 years old.
I need someone to talk about the year in music, and how... I dunno, sparkless it was.
The only good albums out this year all felt uninteresting. Sure they're good, but they don't excite me.
The best analogy I could give would be a flat soda, they wouldve been really good a while ago, but now they leave a dull taste.
so angels and airwaves released a new album
[quote]We're #1 on the iTunes Rock chart and #5 on the main album chart.. Can we overtake Taylor Swift who's currently #4?! [/quote]
how can this happen
[editline]9th December 2014[/editline]
well actually listening to the album its probably their best
ava has a few cool songs I guess

the new liars and swans are pretty dope, and the new Earth album
also Kele's album is pretty sweet and plenty others, I dunno I think this has been a great year in music
This year's been really OK. Especially in comparison to the previous two years, which I thought were fantastic
The new Earth was kind of boring, and I say this as someone who really likes them. New Swans had its moments, but also dragged during other parts
The best album that came out this year was definitely the new Eyehategod. It's basically everything I've wanted them to do from the very start

The only albums to come out this year that I really dug were Salad Days and RTJ2.
Last year had excellent albums by Kanye West, Vampire Weekend, Daft Punk, HAIM, Disclosure, Artic Monkeys, Drake, David fuckin Bowie, Janelle Monae, Danny Brown and QOTSA, among others. All of those albums are better than (almost) any of the albums that came out this year.

see I thought the arctic monkeys album was the weakest thing they've done and that HAIM were super bland, Daft Punk's one was pretty dissapointing as well IMO
Sam Amidon's new joint is sick, Ricky Eat Acid's latest album is great, RTJ2 is great, The Bug's new album, Sun Kil Moon, J Mascis, Ratking, on top of that Skepta dropped That's not Me which is the most important thing to happen in grime in nearly a decade

also MadGibbs
there's been loads of good records this year,
not so much on the pop front though.

I liked the duo between Ariana Grande and The Weeknd, but that's just a song and not a record.

QOSTA's latest album was their worst by far though.
My highlights of this year are the new releases by Modern Baseball, Issues, Liars, How To Dress Well, Mac DeMarco, and Death Grips.
[editline]Edit[/editline]
Almost forgot the new Dads release yet I've only had a chance to listen through it like three times so far.

I mean that's highly debatable since indie =/= hipster but I'm not going into that.
[editline]9th December 2014[/editline]
Also just realised that I still have a paper written by a mate's acquaintance abt Lana del Ray and her internal struggle. It's literally called Born to Die: the Crisis of Lana Del Rey and it's the worst piece of philosophical discourse I've ever read.

post it
It's 6000 words so I'll probably release it in snippets if I do. But as a teaser have this:
[QUOTE]Lana Del Rey (LDR), in her album Born to Die, captures the construction human identity with striking accuracy. When unconditionally ascribing to her identities, LDR loses the capacity to change these identities, and as a result represses and reproduces her real miserable conditions. First, I discuss how LDR’s acceptance of her identity results in a perceived state of freedom. However, I then explore how this freedom, since it is only freedom to enact a single identity, funnels all of LDR’s efforts into its singularity, thus resulting in a condition of unfreedom. She cannot change her identity. Third, I investigate what identity must blanket in order to reproduce itself. In the case of LDR, the part of her that must be repressed is suffering. Suffering threatens to collapse identity because it is the part of LDR that cannot be swallowed by identity. Since she does not address this suffering, but rather represses and silences it, it plagues all of her interactions and discourses. The task then, for LDR, is to allow her suffering to speak. But instead, LDR opts for her identity, and continues the cyclical reproduction of her own unfortunate circumstance.[/QUOTE]
that's terrible enough on it's own
Holy shit that's bad -- also talks about how lana del ray is free but her big thing is literally that women cant b their own person and have to rely entirely on men cos apparently that is romantic and not misogynistic lmao
I dont H8 her 100% like I feel her aesthetic and musically she's not bad but I hate what she's about
The worst part imo is how he calls her LDR. Just feels weird to say.
