Get really fancy and make the light turn on when you turn the bottle cap slightly
I say Copper Sulphate and superglue for the cap are the best solutions.
Alternately, mix your tonic water with one of those Mountain Dew Blue drinks, which are sort of cloudy by themselves.
Thanks for the ideas, guys. I'll try some stuff out and when I find a good outcome I'll post some pics. If suddenly you think of something amazing, by all means, keep sharing them as you've already beaten all of my ideas.
Just thought, why not add a few drops of milk to help it be more opaque?

You do realise thats because that post is from nearly 2 years ago so the threat is probably long gone, right?
Just thought, why not add a few drops of milk to help it be more opaque?
Because that's disgusting...
Because that's disgusting...
More disgusting than a chemical that would result in death if accidentally consumed?

In my opinion, yes. Besides, milk is fat, it'll separate out with time.
I had thought of that as well but didn't try it as it'd go bad and probably then look bad.
Too bad Luminol doesn't glow for long.
It would make a pretty good Nuka cola Quantum

It's only mildly toxic, I doubt the amount you'd put in would actually kill you, you'd just vom it back up.
I painted a wall, over where some radiator pipes have been buried.
When the radiator is on and the wall trench where the pipes are gets hot the paint changes colour. Wtf?
That actually sounds really fucking cool.

Are you using a latex based paint? The plastic and water in it will react to heat changes, if it gets hot enough it will seperate and peel. A lot of interior paints are latex, but you can get yourself a nice oil, or lead based paint, and go over said wall, and it shouldn't happen.

Let's not advise he use a lead-based paint, shall we?

Speaking in terms of longevity, or toughness, lead is awesome. Now ecologically... and uh there's that health thing. Well yeah it's bad for you. But they do still sell it. I'd recommend an oil based, but even those are getting x'd by people. Shortly after latex will be banned and all we'll be allowed to use for paint is ground up flowers.

Latex paint's relatively ecologically neutral, and can be made with renewable techniques.
That, and it's less likely to cause cancer compared to lead paint.

Agreed. But having watched a lot of construction materials go the way of "too carcenogenic" or "too dangerous," it wouldn't be strange if latex was removed the same way. A lot of paint thinning substances and wood coatings have gone out just recently.
I personally prefer oil based paint though. It definitly looks better. I must also clarify, you probably can't get lead paint in the US/UK. But a lot of countries still use it.
Also, most latex based paint doesn't stand up to water so well, but it is cheaper than oil paint.

This is true... Some varieties of asbestos are entirely safe (if handled properly, and sealed. Like in firedoors.), but that's against code now. Incandescent bulbs are replaced with CFLs... (Which I still don't understand. I use LEDs, because they're cheap to operate, and cool... CFLs are neither, compared.)
I agree with you, but I'm not a huge fan of lead paint... It makes a lot of the stuff I do really difficult and dangerous, and the masks you have to use for that stuff are expensive. I repurpose old furniture, you see.
Had a bunch of radiators installed last week.. because after 2 years trying to get heating via the air conditioning system I decided fuck it.
All the pipes were buried in the wall so I plastered them..

Lolz what are dust sheets for?
And painted..

We painted the other room orange. When the rads are on the paint goes darker.

I've got one of those cheap sandblasters that just comes with a hose you stick into a bucket of sand. I'm sick of it always feeding poorly and causing problems, so I built a hopper to simply funnel the sand into the hose, so it shouldn't stop feeding until it's completely empty.
It looks ugly as shit because I have very little metalworking infrastructure at home. Everything has to be cut with tin snips or grinders, and bent around by hand. I could do better if I had a nice set of cylindrical dies to beat the metal around. Still, it works great, even if it looks like it was built by 19th century shipbuilders.
I hate my sandblaster because of that, that's a great idea right there, I might steal the idea for something to do this summer.
My basement bedroom wasn't depressing and gloomy enough. I thought it was the light. Too bright.
I built an adapter to convert the modern 4" junction box to the century old 2" junction box, then I hung a bare bulb from the ceramic base to give my room a depressing as fuck feel.

Didn't feel bad enough, so I repalced the bulb with an Edison. Same wattage, far less light.

There we go. Now I feel like a hopeless schmuck who lives in his parents basement and isn't in school.
Those are nice, but I find their light too brown compared to real carbon filament lamps. Though, they probably last longer.
I worked out the digital potentiometers today and made an oscillator that I can control with my microcontroller.

This is the early foundations for the synth on my keyboard. I'll just need to send keystrokes via serial and have them determine the frequency to run the oscillator at.

Do those auto darkening helmets work well? I was thinking of getting a pair, I keep giving myself arc-eyes because I forget to put my goggles on.
