There are very few cities in Tennessee that don't end in -ville. I'm in Sevierville right now.
So my Vizio, is actualy a Sony? What about Sharps? :v:
Is Vizio owned by Sony? I got a Vizio 42" TV, and the thing has been running for 2 years now. Cheap prices, but good quality.

The broken Goodwill LCD TV is back up and running flawlessly. Capacitor replacement was successful. Total investment, $8. Regardless of bezel/speaker/color that is a win in my book.
Morgan Freeman is surprised that the TV works.
I've invested some money and time into getting the stuff ordered to start using a saftey razor and a brush with traditional shaving soap and all of the things that goes along with that, so after discovering a huge online community (Badger and Blade) that is all about shaving, I've kind of gotten hooked even though my stuff is still in the mail and I've yet to touch a blade to my face, lol. Well I went out hunting today at all my local thrift shops looking for some antique razors, since good new ones (like the Merkur 36c I ordered) cost around $35-100 and collecting razors and shaving items is part of the fun, building a collection. Well after hours of finding nothing at the shops I went to I stumbled upon this, a Gillette, brass and copper, dating from the 1920's. It was in it's original case but when I got the razor it was in very poor shape, like an old dirty penny, you couldn't even see a color difference between the metals. After boiling it in vinegar and scrubbing it, and wetsanding it I got it back to beautiful and sterilized. Turns out this razor I got for $5 is worth around $65+ in the condition it is now. I'm very excited to use this.

Very nice... I've got an old Straightedge my Great Uncle had... But I'm worried I'd slice my face up if I tried to use it.
Also, do you plan to reupholster the box?

Nope, the box really doesn't interest me, I do need to make a stand for my razors and brush though.
With all the stuff Ajacks finds makes me want to venture out with my 20$ and see what awesome, eazily fixable stuff I can find out there.
Continuing in my vein of building tables from weird things, I stuck some legs on a box.
[t]http://i.imgur.com/5tM0F0d.jpg[/t]
I had the legs lying around from my grandfather's coffee table... The wood was weak and brittle from sitting in a barn for the better part of a century, so I salvaged the legs and shoved the tabletop back into a barn. The chest I picked up from my grandmother today, who had bought it at an estate sale last weekend. I traded her a yellow American Tourister luggage for it.
Naturally... I did what made sense. And now I've got some hipster furniture.
...There is no hope for me...
Excuse the cable mess, I literally moved here yesterday
The DIY thing here is the pedal bracket. The looks are WIP, I'm probably gonna paint it and shape the "legs" differently for more comfort but it works!

I'm gonna have to make a bracket for the steering wheel as well to get it a little bit further out towards the driver and a little downwards while being quick and easy to set up.
I did make the thing that the gear lever is mounted on today too but it's just a modified tiny TV-stand with a piece of wood screwed to it.

I like the racing wheel... Been meaning to get one for myself, but they're so expensive.

Heh, it may seem over-hyped to some people but I think it's just as great as people say it is.
I don't regret for a second that I bought one and it's over a year old now, maybe close to two.
Built a fence for my girlfriends Herb garden today, she texted me this morning saying she was bummed because yet again something was rooting around in her garden throughout the night, so while she was at work I set out to make her a fence for the raised bed planter as a surprise. Was able to get it finished without her knowing. Was a good surprise.

Working with chicken wire was a pain, the underside of my forearms are just riddled with cuts now.

I bought a used one in october/november, and broke it the day after (it just doesn't respond to input, or the force feedback doesn't work, I don't remember), but apperantly I just have to switch out an IC, but I've never gotten around to doing it.
Meh it works

Made a wooden prop sword today.

Made an MDF base plate for my rasp pi.
MDF is a surprisingly pleasant material to work with, it behaves more like a plastic or a very soft metal than wood. I even find myself using a scribe to mark it rather than a pencil more often than not.
I had some of this 6mm thick stuff left over after a shelf project and figured I'd make something simple just to keep it off the bench. The screws are regular machine screws so I had to sink the heads into the material to get a flat bottom.
Where'd you get that mini-heat sink? I'e been meaning to OC my RPi

But check ebay, you'll probably not get a better price but ebay sellers usually deliver way faster than DX. Most sellers from china or hongkong have free shipping and lots of people are selling rasp pi accessories.
Alternately, the heatsinks that shipped with some older graphics cards would fit fine.
More bookbinding stuff:

Instead of gluing the whole set of signatures into the spine I sewed a headband and used a few pieces of fabric to put the signatures and the cover together in a better way. The book opens perfectly and in a much comfy fashion, so I'm going to use this method from now on! I may try to sew coloured headbands too, I just need to get more used to this.
Now it only needs a proper cover, so I might draw something on it in the next few days.
Also, try to guess what I'm doing next and you'll get a cookie:

Cutting out the shapes.
Yeah, I'm going to try doing a plush doll next, and I've already cut all the shapes and have the fabric ready to sew. Next I'll get the stuffing and learn how to use the sewing machine, because I really need to use it for all this. I'll post the final result when it's done.
Also, look at all the leftover fabric I have now after all that!

I'm going to have a field day using these for my next books :v:

Organizing my wire spools, aww yeah.
Just finished making this tension set pearl pendant for my girlfriend's birthday next week. It's not perfect, but that's fine by me. I had to improvise many steps because of my limited tools. The imperfections prove I made it.
Anyways here's the instructable I followed with the basic steps.

and here's my finished pendant.

and here's a picture for size reference sorta, and to see the sides in some light.

That looks fantastic, what a great gift! I actually prefer your imperfect one to the one in the Instructable.
Me and my girlfriend went to some yard sales and antique shops yesterday and I picked up this interesting looking old ice cream scoop from a West Terre Haute junk store for $2. Turns out it's a 'Gilchrist Model 30, size 16 (scoops per quart)' I bought it because it was incredibly heavy duty and had a really cool mechanism. Turns out, that after I restored the brass, in it's current condition it's worth about $190, turns out there is a decent group of people collecting icecream/soda fountain antiques and this is the most sought after brand. I plan on keeping it, and am very happy with how it turned out, very unique and interesting.

If that's your finished result, wow, that looks beautiful.
If that's your finished result, wow, that looks beautiful.
It is, me and Kaleigh are going out in a bit to get some nice blue bell icecream to celebrate the restoration appropriately.
How did you clean it?
