It's not for me anyway, asking for friend, he's mad into football and he got ball signed by some footballer that he absolutely loves. So he is paranoid now when somebody is in his room. So I am making suggestions for him. Yeah at first I thought of: some kind of UV coated glass or something with vacuum inside, would that work?
Oh, it's a football? Yeah, get a little stand. Maybe a plexiglass case if he wants to go all out. Don't put it in front of a window. That's about all he needs to do, leather holds up pretty well in standard conditions. A vacuum would actually pop the thing, and I'm sure that's not what he wants.

Rather than a vacuum you can try to displace all the air inside with an inert gas like nitrogen.
They also sell special display cases made specifically for footballs.
I made a clock with neopixels and an ATtiny85 [t]https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/62766551/PA260018.jpg[/t] It's painfully bright, so I'll make a diffuser for it when I make the case.
Almost finished with my 70lb Hickory backed oak longbow Had a problem with the hickory backing splitting where I spliced it in the center of the bow and it took me a year of laziness to finally figure out how to fix it.
I honestly thought you'd made a crossbow out of an actual bow and some lumber.
Lol, I use that piece of wood to check evenness in the bend of the limbs. I am working on a crossbow though.
Made a spud gun yesterday for around $40 in build cost :v: Was a little late last night to test fire it extensively so I'll save that for today. [t]http://puu.sh/cwa6L/5b4838128e.jpg[/t]
That spark gap seems kinda insane :v:, if I remember correctly, some guys in class made one and used the ignition system of a lighter. It wasn't as big as yours though. [editline]30th October 2014[/editline] also please make videos of it firing! those things are great to watch.

I have built in weak points to avoid blowing the whole thing up if anything gets stuck in the barrel so I'm gonna have to do some tests and see how much it can withstand. I'll upload the results here later tonight if I'm still alive :v:
Awesome :D, see what kind of things you can fire from it (what do you actually plan to fire? potato's or something different) [editline]30th October 2014[/editline] looking at the picture it seems like that beer can next to it might fit in it nicely.
I managed to blow it up trying to launch a full beer can :v: Luckily I anticipated this and didn't tighten up the barrel or rear end so it just disassembled itself :v: [t]http://puu.sh/cwDVe/ea7437cd82.jpg[/t] [t]http://puu.sh/cwE05/e6a04629e7.jpg[/t] Reinforced and wrapped :v: Used alcohol rich deodorant as propellant. Need to buy starter gas
I always wanted to try making a spud gun, I just don't like the size of them. I wonder if anyone's made a musket/rifle sized spud launcher, maybe make it shoot mini spuds.

PVC pipes fragment during catastrophic failure. The hardest part is always the ignition system but google Spark Gap Igniter if you want to take a shortcut.
I finally finished the tipping tophat. I wish I hadn't left so much till the last few days because there's some rough edges that would have been nice to sort out but I'm quite happy with the result. beer can with starter gas. I gotta record this with something better but the blue muzzle flash at the end speaks for itself..

I'm thinking of painting the pickguard for my bass guitar, is there some kind of special paint to be used with brushes? Should I apply a few layers of clear coat on it after? Also looking for some ideas on what to draw on it, I'm thinking something a bit hippy/60's look.

[t]http://puu.sh/cBpFv/2f7d2e590b.jpg[/t] Home brew sabots the end lid shot 30 meters backwards in this take but put enough force on the projectile to pierce my woodshed with an M10 bolt head. I'm underestimating the gas pressure in this thing. do we need a spud gun thread?
I know I've got a horrible habit of cross posting with the EE thread but I know some of you guys don't go there and I'd hate for you to miss out on my clock progress.
Wow, it reminds me so much of the LED pocket watch i've been dying to get my hands on for so long. So I've finally got into actually selling all my goodwill finds, and in the last week I've made $320, not including a pair of binoculars I bought at goodwill for $4 and already sold on Facebook group sales for $15 after a few nice pictures this afternoon. Also got a vacuum out of the trash and cleaned it up over the last hour and completely disassembled it and scrubbed it perfectly clean. Just sold it after 5 minutes online for $10! I do feel like a drug dealer though, meeting strangers in parking lots and leaving with cash. I'll be starting my G4 Cube UCFF build soon, so I'll probably post a log here. The goal's to have a completely non-destructive mod, outside of removing a little spot-welded bracket that held up the daughterboard. I'll probably be using a Gigabyte BRIX Pro for this, since they've got almost 100% compatibility with OS X Mavericks and Yosemite, and should handle XBMC and Steam Streaming fine. So, if anyone has any suggestions on how to make short USB/HDMI/Ethernet/Displayport/Power jumpers, or how to wire the wireless card directly into the pre-existing case antennae, I'd love to hear them. The biggest reason I'm not doing what everyone else does with these and shoving an mITX motherboard, dedicated graphics, et al into this thing is because I know five, ten, fifteen years down the road I'll probably want to still have this thing kicking around, and if I start cutting up the panels or support structures I'll regret that later on. I hope to, when the UCFF boards become powerful enough for my everyday needs, use this thing as my primary desktop, and just keep a traditional desktop around for VR/gaming (if I even need to.) The BRIX line's small enough that I really don't have to worry about space constraints, the board's only 4"x4"x1.5".

This doesn't feel safe at all but the pipes seem to hold together just fine, no signs of wear or tear so I guess I'm just a big pussy. I added proper grip, cheek/chin/shoulder pads and a red dot sight and I also installed a 12 volt fan in the combustion chamber so the propellant and oxygen gets better mixed together. It also clears the remaining exhausts pretty fast for the next shot. I'm not quite done here yet, I need to find a fuel pump, hosing and an injector from a car so I can put the fuel and fan on the same switch and then just hit the ignition to launch :v:
