Some crossbow bolts, hex nut blunt tips for shooting at hard objects.

I drafted up a design for an animation disc and had it cut at my dad's work. It only took them 9 months to get around to doing it, but I guess that's the price you pay for getting something done for free. :v: It's a custom size to fit my lightbox. I also made a pegbar with some aluminum bar stock and some 1/4" rod. Forgot to take a picture of it though.

The entire construction is 1/4" acrylic.
So guys how would I start this project? I've never done any sort of d.i.y. stuff for clothes
I want to make a hoodie that's entirely black and has a sort of :

on the back. just the red part.
my ideas are get an entirely black hoodie (pretty easy to find) and get the cloth or something for the black widow mark on the back
what do you guys think?

You know male Latrodectus are more plain right? Only the females have the marking. The idea seems like it could be kind of odd in execution too. If you do decide to do this, you might try a patch.

thank you for replying so quickly!
i looked up the markings on male latrodectus and i have to say that would luck nice.
i'll make a hoodie of each
i'm non-binary (pretty low key) so this will work for how i'm feeling at different moments if i do two hoodies.
i'd tackle this as if i'm tackling a cosplay project
a patch will be great.

Had this one student who wanted to create a box which went over a sculpture she made. We thought it would be nice if she designed windows/portals that complemented or contrasted the work. Then we could have cut those intricate shapes out on the laser cutter for her. In the end she gave up and drew squares. :what:
Such a shame because it could have turned out really nice. Still, I enjoyed the build process, it makes a change from cutting out the whole panel sides and then spending time using a jigsaw or scrollsaw to do the design.

You could also just screen print it directly on to the hoodie. The most cost effective thing may be to take it to a screen printing shop and get an estimate. Also you could make a stencil and use red fabric paint possibly.

That's the standard art student way, grand ideas until actual work has to be done, then the easiest route is chosen followed by the most complicated reasoning as to why it needed to be so simple.
I need a painting bench. painting inside without an extractor gives me awful headaches
Lacquer is a mean thing

A patch of fabric would work well.
Or, since it's a black sweatshirt, bleach will most likely turn it red/orange. Make a stencil with contact paper/tape and spray a 50/50 mix of bleach and water. Even coloring is a bit hit or miss, so take that into consideration. If this interests you, check out /r/bleachshirts out on reddit. Some do intricate muilti-layered stencils for different tones while staying monochromatic.
I'm designing a universal calendar. Anyone know where I can find a sheet of red transparent plexiglass? Also, how can I sandwich two pieces of plexiglass together without having visible squiggles of adhesive?
I imagine you'd have to order some transparent red acrylic from somewhere on the web, that's not something I've ever seen in person. Also with a proper acrylic adhesive it should set completely clear and properly clamped together should evenly spread the adhesive. There's methods of laying out the adhesive as well that minimize chances for bubbles.
Thanks guys. Once I get some designs for the calendar graphic done, I'll post them here.

Take a look at plastic snap rivets/panel clips. You can also get screw thread snap rivets.
Here's the first iteration of the design. I'm not totally happy with it yet, though. Something feels odd, but I'm not sure what.

And yes, I'm ripping off Vignelli a little bit. This is supposed to be a replacement for my Stendig, after all.

Is 3D printing okay in the DIY thread? Pardon the temporary leveling :v:

I'm curious to see what it would look like if you fattened the numbers a bit and brought them over to the right more, so that in some cases, say the number 1 for example would be part of the solid colour and numbers like 2 would have that thin white/black shape running down the side removed
Printed myself a backpack-mount for my solar phone charger. This is also the first part I designed myself.

(I forgot to add the hole for the ports in the design so I had to do with it with a dremel afterwards :v: )
the next step is getting a nicer bag and mounting a full 19v solar laptop charger onto it
Update on the solar backpack mount:

Works great; it even gets a good charge when pointed directly away from the sun. I’m gonna flip the charger around so that the ports are facing downwards, though; I’m worried it’ll get damaged by rain if I leave them facing up.
I was debating whether nor not to put the design on thingiverse because the mount is specifically designed for this solar charger, but I looked on ebay and it seems that tons and tons of generic solar chargers are made in the same exact form factor. I’ll stick it on thingiverse soon.
That's pretty cool dude.
Thanks m8. I'll probably be posting 3D printer stuff in here periodically since y'all seem to be okay with it :v:
Looks like you chose to keep this thread alive over the 3d printer thread. Good choice! :v:
So I've been pretty busy. On top of my boat restorations I have started doing some independant work doing remodels and new construction, as well as custom furniture and shelving. So far since November I've remodeled a bunch of offices into a comic book store, remodeled a disgusting restaurant into a nice cafe/ bakery/ coffee shop, and done a bunch of furniture work, painting, and am in the middle of turning a 3 car garage into a 2 car garage with the other part structured as an appartment studio of sorts.
From the cafe:

That's just the barrista area - there is also a main dining area, a kitchen, storage area, and baking area, the barrista area is just my favorite though. I am also currently taking payments as I almost had to threaten to sue her for not paying me. I finished the entire place in the first week of December last year. Took her till now to start paying. Anyway...
This is the appartment I'm doing in the garage for someone. THis is a picture of the same wall over and over.

It does have a bathroom as well, visible behind the framed wall.

The only thing so far I did not do, was put on the granite counter top. That was done by the company that sold it included in the price. Everything else - I handled single-handedly. I even figured out a way to get drywall onto the ceiling by myself. Luckily I have experience in all of this stuff anyway. In the next couple days I'll be finishing up, and moving on to the garage part which is going through some renovations as well. The entire spot is wired up for smart operation by the owner, so phone controls everything and anything in there. Pretty cool stuff. The room is only maybe 12x13 in the largest spot, with a hallway, 3 access doors - one leading to garage, and a full bathroom. Not large, but there is a full 5' pan shower. It's about 7'6" x5' total.

(gonna rotate it at home)
I work as cnc milling machine operator and had a little time to fool around. I will probably make a keychain from it.

What material is it cut from? At my work we use Rowmark two-ply engraving plastic.
I used two materials, both 5mm thick acrylics and both are German made. Slightly transparent red and non transparent white. It's all I got because I'm not responsible for supplying the company with materials. The technique of making it was bit tricky because of its size. Red crosses would simply break of during cutting. So I had to plan 4 mm socket in the red one, then planned white one so it would be 4mm thick and glued them together. Because of that it's has one proper side (the reverse is just red with barely visible white part).

Just a fun little project i did.
Got to love scrap metal weapons. At one point I'd like to whip up a pair of Uruk-Hai Scimitar's, one for myself and one for a good friend. Seems like it'd be an easy project.
I couldn't ever use a grinder without a handle like that though, always makes me feel uneasy using a grinder one handed.

oh.. ye a Uruk-Hai sword would be fun to make.
i've often used that grinder for different projects, never felt unsafe with it, tough it does shake you hand to jello.
