Is this safe to bump because I made a wood frame last month? Does anyone here know their refrigerants? I have a number of older devices that use the now banned R22 but after 30 or 40 years their charge levels are getting pretty low. You can still find small cans to recharge appliances but it's really, really expensive. The modern substitute is RS-44/R424A. It can be added to purged or partially filled R22 systems and you don't have to retrofit anything to use the equipment again. Problem is that while I can find most other refrigerants and small can form for one or two use recharging I can only find RS-44 in the giant tank format which is really expensive and I'd never need that much refrigerant. Hey, not sure if someone can help me with this, but i needed a way of drilling very precise, small holes (1/8th of a centimeter in diameter) in common paper and i have no idea on how to approach this. Hole punches are way too big. What is the best method? Edit: 0,05 inches in diameter, for Imperial system savages.
Dremel and a 1/8ths drill bit.
I forgot all about this thread. I made a box to put my PC on. It's a nice box though ...
Love how polished and smooth it is :) kinda minimalistic, even.
Thanks. That was how I wanted it to turn out so appreciate the comment :)
i think this is the right place, ordered a Electron 3D Slimbot with autolevel addon wanted to try a printer anyway and this had nearly 40% off, hopefully they keep the 8-10 day delivery there were comments about slow delivery. if i like it i should be able to increase the build area and add another extruder/better head

Hey guys, scratching my head on what to use this sweet VFD I have for. Its a matrix VFD nearly 16in in length. I have zero idea what to use it for. I have a couple of pi zeros and an arduino for potential brains... I'm just out of ideas. [editline]18th October 2016[/editline] BTW didn't pay a dime for it, after getting a sample module from the manufacturer, a modest little one a few inches in length... they just sent me that one too. I never asked for it. I kinda feel bad for it too, thats a $180 display and they just gave it to me. I felt better about the other one, it was faaaar smaller and faaaar cheaper. Although even with that I ended up with 2 of those too after one was perceived to be faulty. They just shipped another and said I could keep the other one. Found out later that both were fine... So yeah 3 VFDs and no idea what to do with any of them.

That wasn't terribly exciting so I had some fun drawing pixel art and pretty patterns mathematically (think visualising sorting algorithms) for it to scroll across.
i finally got a good print out of my 3d printer kit although its not fully calibrated theres no overextrusion, maybe now i can tidy up [t]http://i.imgur.com/m69HMRK.jpg[/t][t]http://i.imgur.com/vk51I93.jpg[/t]
I made a wooden airsoft shield for my friend for Christmas. [t]http://imageshack.com/a/img921/4391/sKpeBx.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.com/a/img924/5346/4uDBVY.jpg[/t] [t]http://imageshack.com/a/img921/2108/oDMD0X.jpg[/t]
I have been developing a 3d-printed mortar system that uses a CO2 cartridge propellant and pvc pipes. (Click to enlarge images) [CAD] [t]http://i.imgur.com/ZdjH09f.png[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/ojCt3Fg.png[/t] [Rounds] This is the newest version [t]http://i.imgur.com/CgxhLAk.jpg[/t] Here are the various developments [t]http://i.imgur.com/pDURiQW.jpg[/t] You can see how the mortar round accepts a small payload (red piece, could be a chemical or explosive later) and is detonated with a small percussion cap mounted on the mortar head's nipple. [t]http://i.imgur.com/EbPmoyB.jpg[/t] The CO2 cartridges are wrapped lightly with toilet paper and inserted rectally so they can fit snugly, while being removable so you can re-use the rounds. [t]http://i.imgur.com/FgRJHgK.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/f79JecR.jpg[/t] Many different combinations on infill and layer height are being tested. [t]http://i.imgur.com/WhoJGs7.jpg[/t] [Tube] The mortar tube, while originally going to be 3d printed as well, is now pvc because of strength concerns and printing it takes a long time. (notice the breaking) [t]http://i.imgur.com/Y4MOdjB.jpg[/t] So i ended up using a pvc tube, but with a 3d printed endcap with a nail stuck through it. [t]http://i.imgur.com/BW0kuv6.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/P1HdkUn.jpg[/t] [t]http://i.imgur.com/picH4dw.jpg[/t] Here you can see the nail at the end of the tube. [t]http://i.imgur.com/cbefJ4T.jpg[/t] I have tested one round and it works flawlessly, I just need a large field to test range. The first test was in my porch and I underestimated the power of the CO2. It went out the tube and rocketed around the porch like a ricocheting bullet in a cartoon. I am lucky no windows broke.
That is absolutely awesome. That model looks great!
Are you planning on releasing this after it's done, free or paid for?
Sure. http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1929115 The other parts are dependent on the pvc tube external diameter, however the internal diameter should be around 2 inches. Also make sure it is 12 gram, not 16 gram CO2

I wanted to immerse it in mineral oil to cool it and have it in a carved wooden box with art deco cutouts to see the bath inside. I did a lot of the woodwork and then someone broke the tank i was using as a base and i gave up no idea where all that finished wood went though Really been meaning to make a super duper basic propane fired crucible/cupola smelter to do some bronze/brass castings for myself too. Either that or a basic induction furnace to cast steel parts for model engines 'n shit. All a man really needs to find fulfillment in life is a foundry and machine shop
Is paintball not big in Brazil?
There's a huge Airsoft community, but laws are strict when buying gas-powered guns and pressurized canisters for some reason. Most hobbyists don't use gas-powered guns for that reason. IMO the bureaucracy is really not worth it.
Is this thread still the one? Because I am looking for some tips on how to build a corner bench, trying to draw it up in SketchUp but I don't know where to start.

Because I am looking for some tips on how to build a corner bench, trying to draw it up in SketchUp but I don't know where to start.
It's the only one, but as you can see it's rather dusty. If you need any advice you can shoot me a PM as well.
Hi, sorry for the two week bump. So I have a fairly noisy picture, and I'm trying to theoretically make it a vector or something so I can resize it without losing the smaller details.. It's this one. So there's a LOT of smaller stars and stuff. In theory I'm doing this because I'd like to try and emulate a poster I saw once. I feel like vectoring is probably not EXACTLY what I need but I have almost no knowledge of photoshop and that's one of the few buzzwords I know. I'm not expecting to get something EXACTLY like this but in theory that's what I'm trying to emulate. I'm not very good at photoshop but I'm hoping this is possible without me like individually drawing each star myself. Which I will, if I have to, but I'd rather not. Once it's a vector it's probably gonna be easier to stylize (I assume). If there's an easier way to replicate this, let me know! The sooner the better.

yeah probably not, but there didn't seem to be like a photoshop thread or anything regardless i figured it out so nevermind lmao sorry guys
The 2D digital art thread or graphic design thread probably would've been a better place to ask. https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1525094&page=56 https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1446558&page=28
i am an idiot and you are correct, thank you
Built my bar shelves over the last few days! [T]https://i.imgur.com/ff6Palm.jpg[/t] Timeline: https://imgur.com/a/qmoeB Includes my original plans, the moment I discovered my LED strips were cheap af, the final stained and sealed shelves, and how it looks without bottles over the strips Now I just need to finish stocking it
Not sure if it counts but I built a racecar without knowing how. https://facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=1492664&p=52410848&viewfull=1#post52410848 Before I started this project I didn't know how to -Weld -Paint -Install or remove an engine -Do anything on cars more then switching wheels and normal maintenance. I can proudly say I have learned more by doing this then I would have ever learned any other way. [editline]31st December 2017[/editline] Oh yeah the car isn't 100% finished. I still needed to paint it but I've meanwhile gotten a sponsor which is currently doing the paintjob. Should be finished within a month.
