I have a C&C and a little puddleduck, and an inflatable boat AND I'M A MEMBER OF THE YACHT CLUB HUH HOW ABOUT THAT
I recently took the SS Badger ferry across Lake Michigan on Tuesday. It's 410 feet long and 6650 tons. It's over 50 years old and burns coal. They dump the sludge into Lake Michigan :v:

What, your boat doesn't fly?
I like the Dublin tall ships fest! http://i.imgur.com/U6LN3.jpg http://i.imgur.com/jNl7u.jpg and these are the best shoes in the world....
I have a Wellcraft Coastal 250. 25 feet, cuddy cabin, hardtop. We've set it up for fishing the Chesapeake. Got a lot of Shimano and Penn rigs on there. Only problem is, it's in front of two shitty motors. Evinrude E-tec 150 HPs. They were an early experiment by Evinrude to create a computer controlled fuel injection motor. Lots of problems. We've replaced the power head on one, fuel injection regulator chip, the impellers, still give us trouble. Fucking bastards.
So maybe some of you guys could help with this. Earlier we were having a fire down by a beach and out in the bay maybe 5km we seen a long black ship. At first sight we thought it was an oil tanker because oil tankers routinely drop off their oil at that spot, but then we realized it was moving. FAST. Like, incredibly fast for something of that size. It was moving SLIGHTLY closer to us but the problem is that there were islands for most of the way, so we could only get an idea of the outline of the ship when it didn't have an island in the background. We thought it was a submarine, but we weren't sure. Here's how I can best describe it: -Several hundred feet long -Maybe 50 feet wide -15 feet of hull sticking out of the water -Totally black -We could hear it from where we were, so it must have been pretty fucking loud. Sounded almost like an airplane off in the distance, but it was almost certainly the vessel. The problem is the "bridge" was fairly tall and was on the back of the ship. Like, almost at the very back. I'm no expert on submarines, but I have never seen a submarine with the tower at the very back, so I'm wondering what could it have been exactly that we seen?

Any major cities near by with large ports/naval bases?
Newfoundland, Canada. As far as I know, not really. St. Johns harbour is nearby (but not really near the beach) but yet I wouldn't call that a port or naval base.
That's absolutely bizarre, and you're right about the conning towers of submarines. More submarines please, thanks.

A hovercraft would explain the speed and noise.
Aw fuck man this is some buoyant-ass shit
Could the structure at the back have been one or more propellers? A hovercraft would explain the speed and noise.
I don't think so, it was clearly a tower of some sorts because it was fairly tall and had some lights on it. I don't think it was a hovercraft, it seemed much too long and narrow to be one from my knowledge.
