i'd say if anything an age limit alone encourages irresponsible drinking
kind of hard to drink responsibly if you can't even drink legally in the first place, I think more effort should be put into the education of how alcohol works rather than trying to persuade people not too by slapping a "you cant until you're 18/21 because we say so" onto it
I did a 2000 word university essay on why the buying age in my country should be raised to 21 and there are actually valid reasons for having a drinking age man. Lots of studies etc.
Of course you can be responsible while underage. Its just a matter of someone teaching the kid about alcohol first before they sneak off to a party and get shit faced. I learned this the hard way, my parents never taught me a thing about drinking, I went to my first party when I was 14, started binge drinking and I blacked out for about 4 hours.
I remember the first time a drank anything alcoholic, was when I was about six, at a family party, I ate some really spicy corn, so a swig from my dad's Corona. I started drinking with friends at about 14 o 15. Most of my friends were big drinkers. I've been drunk maybe 15 times max. Never too drunk to walk (or crutch) my way home.
Never gotten sick from drinking, I've never had a hang-over either. It's been 4 years now.
It's all self-control I think.
People who tell me that I'm only getting drunk because I can't have fun otherwise piss me off. Yea, you could start a fire with sticks and dry grass, but why do it when you've got a lighter?
I Just always say sure I can have fun when Im not drunk, but I can have even more fun when I am! Or I say its different kinds of fun.
I had my first drink at 12, and started drinking more often at 14. I have never done anything dangerous while drunk thus far. I haven't even had a hang over. I've loved my Jack Daniels for many years.
im trying to think how the fuck im so controlled and rational about shit. Like, i was never devious, never went against authority for frivolous shit, never been a brat, ive always been patient and a pretty damn good son with self control. What the fuck did my parents do to raise me? I want to know so my kids are like me and i can trust them to do drugs responsibly. It just baffles me how i am like i am and how other people can be complete irresponsible, inconsiderate morons. I have my flaws and i realize this sounds very egotistical in itself but considering my happiness and my family's positive view of me i think ive been a damn good kid. i must know how to teach self control.
I can't legally drink until June next year, but I'm still at the pub every weekend drinking responsibly. The kids with parents that don't let them drink are the ones that end up dying from alcohol related accidents or alcohol poisoning.

One of my friends woke up on a drip in hospital after he drank too much, pretty damn stupid.
Underage, my parents don't let me drink. The times I have drank, have all been in moderation, no more than 10 drinks ever. Mostly if fear of coming home slightly drunk and getting in trouble with my parents.

Well, whenever I do drink, I start at like 6 so I'm pretty much sober when I get home. I don't really even get drunk from that, just tipsy, for most of the night and then I sober up a lot before going home.
Yea 10 drinks do like hardly anything if you drink them slowly.

If my parents make a drink they always offer me one. :/ They are upper middle class and they are not alcoholics.
My mom is amazing in the kitchen and I love coming up with drink ideas with her in the same way as we collaborative with food. My parents also taught me how to appreciate wine properly.

I normally buy a bottle of soju which is like 8 standard drinks then skull it all at once then im basically set for the night :v:
You can drink and buy beer and low alcohol stuff at 16 here, and everything else (including weed) at 18.
There doesnt seem to be more problems with alcohol here then other country's.

my dad's motto was always that if he brings me up teaching me that alcohol is not some huge taboo that should never be tried, i'll want to steal it and do stupid stuff with it less
he's completely right, drinking as a whole just does not appeal to me as much as smoking, per se. i have fun occasionally but i don't chug smirnoff until i'm down two bottles, that's just stupid

After being caught for an underage tonight, I can definitely say responsible underage drinking is no drinking. If you risk being taken apart by your law system, then I suggest being careful as humanly possible.
