Isn't shoutpunch an illegal radio site? If so you are an idiot to even ask.
Shoutpunch is Facepunch's awesome radio :engleft:
You should make a Facepunch flag and hand it outside the window.
Well I finish my Computer Programming BTEC next year, then may go on to university to do computer science, and I live about an hour and a half from Walsall, so if you still need people to work for you then, save us a desk :P
Isn't shoutpunch an illegal radio site? If so you are an idiot to even ask.
It's a grey zone really. Since we're making no profit off it, hardly anyone could really pull us into anything. It would become illegal though if moved over to Britain if we continued to pay no license fees or anything - i think.
I only really know shit about German regulations though, this is all interwebs knowledge.
You wouldn't be able to do it in Britain for a week without the Police knocking on your door.

Yeah. The US seems to be pretty much the only western country where you don't pay ridiculous license fees for some small non-profit stream.
Thats where the US' slogan comes from :V

Isn't it obvious?
land of unlimited possibilities
Concerning Shoutpunch, it's perfectly legal to broadcast a internet radio station from the UK. If you're thinking about FM though, you couldn't do that without a licence which costs some insane amount of money + the needed equipment which costs even more. Not viable.
If you read Garry's posts, you'd know he had stuff planned out. He knows his company better than anyone else here.
Oh sorry for not constantly stalking him. Oh wait no that's something that people aint suppose to do, So why would i be sorry about it even to keep my status on the forums -which by the way doesn't even matter in the real world.
All i know is that the facewound project seemed to be alive again at some point and for what i know sidescrollers aint the best way to make money at this century. However you could say that i might be under estimating "the power of the horde". But then again why'd one put effort to make something like that when pet rocks will do the job.

The streaming itself costs nothing of course. But i think the UK will probably take some kind of license fee, if they wouldn't on their own I'm sure the EU would make them do it. If there really is no additional license payment i shall be impressed.
I am posting from the office ;) ;)
I should probably be posting this to my blog but I can't be bothered to install and log in to extra stuff right now.
That's exactly what I'm saying, if you broadcast a station EXCLUSIVELY over icecast or shoutcast on UK servers that's fine, no fees BUT if you want to use a FM Transmitter you need to pay for the correct licence to use it (OFCOM), as well as the equipment to transmit it. Another thing to note is that if you're playing it on speakers out to the public, you'll need a PRA (Performing Rights Association) certificate to play copyrighted songs in public (that's the premises's responsibilty, however)
Kind of a dumb question but, Garry do you own that entire building or just that floor?

The floor

Just a little thing I'd like to say right here.
You don't become a good artist by studying a paint brush in the same way you don't become a good programmer by studying computer science.
Could be relevant, might not be. But I'll just leave it there.

Nonono, i'm talking about royalties and all kinds of stuff which goes to the PRA as you have mentioned in your last sentence. We're not just playing public domain music so we'd have to pay that.
I'm pretty sure that's not only for speakers but also for broadcast.
Best of luck to you then Garry.
I hope Botch turns out well for you. It looks good so far.

"Live Free or Die"
What's ironic is that the prisoner's at the state jail in Concord (New Hampshire) stamp the plates with this motto at the bottom almost all day.
Nice office, hope i get invited to the chair races.
Why does facepunch need an office? Does Garry make money off this forum?
What the heck!?
