Why hasn't "under god" been removed from the American pledge?
Oh, you're German? Then you are actually stupid, because you don't understand how our government works clearly and should just leave the thread.
The Congress cannot change the bill of rights.
If they added "under God" to the pledge of allegiance in the 50s or whenever the hell they did, I'm pretty sure they can remove it. If they would want to remove it it would probably come under a vote.
Yes or No?
You have a right to not say the pledge.
Where's the problem here?
Uh, ok? Still doesn't dismiss the fact that the First Amendment is being violated.
That's the problem.
The first amendment isn't only about speech
You have a right to religion. Is that what you're concerned about?
Saying the word god is gonna make you go to atheist hell?

No. The case would need to be taken to the Supreme Court by someone who was persecuted because they refused to say the pledge.
Proof you know nothing about the way our government works.

Alright you're failing to understand the point so maybe you should just get out.
If it went to the Supreme Court it would still come down to a majority vote :PPP
Also, "under God" was added in a bill that was passed through the senate.

Yep that's cool still fucking violates the First Amendment.
hey I have a soloution to this problem:
Don't say the "Under God" part, if anyone gives you shit about it tell them that you have freedom of speech and can not say or say anything you damn well please.
also, the Under God part of the Pledge of Allegiance was added during the Cold War era. It was basically meant to say "HEY WE BELIEVE IN GOD AND WE ARE UNDER HIM BUT LOOK AT THOSE COMMUNIST PIGS TO THE EAST, THEY DON'T HAVE UNDER GOD IN THEIR ALLEGIANCE SO WE ARE AUTOMATICALLY THE BEST SUPERPOWER IN THE WORLD :downs:" :eng101:

I'm MAKING a point. You have not yet stated yours other then "it's violating the 1st amendment". How about you back up your argument?
I can very well say "this is illogical". If I do without backing it up I'd be an idiot. So please. Indulge me. Explain your point. Or you can get out.
Okay, I guess we can start the cycle over again. Yes, it violates it. Will it be changed, probably not until there are more Atheist than Christians.
Why? One way or another it's going to come down to a vote. Seeing as how a majority of the country is Christian at this point, it's going to stay that way unless the Supreme Court does finally say it is unconstitutional, which could very well happen some time in the future.
Yep that's cool still fucking violates the First Amendment.
I call troll. You're just spitting the same line over and over without backup. You gotta be just trying to troll some Christians =P
In that case I'll leave you be.

Explain how it violates the constitution.
Why the fuck does it matter?
It was used to fight the communists.
Look it up.
Explain how it violates the constitution.
Was using violate to make T2L happy.

It's been explained countless times in this thread, it's not our fault if you can't fucking read.
Just deal with it, In the unlikely more atheists pop up in America then Christians, it will change, if not, then it won't.
Better question.
Why haven't you been removed from America if you hate it so much?

No one in this thread made a good point on how it violates the constitution. Nice try though ;)
Freedom of religion is not violated when a poem you don't have to say contains a word which is meaningless.
First sign you're losing an argument: attacking the person personally other than typing up anything to do with the actual argument.
The reason it annoys me is because you hear retard Christians and Conservatives spouting off at the mouth about "Well if this isn't a christian nation then why does it say "in god we trust" and "under god".
Then when you try to speak logically to someone they spout off the same argument and don't realize that this country was formed by people getting away from a forced religion, and that's the very reason there's separation between church and state.
This is NOT a Christian nation. It's a free country full of many religions and creeds, and any time you tell someone who isn't christian that "this is a christian nation" you not only make them feel alienated but you alienate yourself. Conservatives need to stop holding this country back because of stupid predictions/beliefs from a book written 2 thousand years ago.
They don't want me to get an abortion because I'm killing one of god's children
They don't want free healthcare because that's pushing towards a socialist regime that is run by the anti-christ etc. etc.
I have to live with big business economics for 4+ years at a time because people won't vote against their bible morals
Let the country advance and flourish with what common sense and logic tells you is best, not what a book decides for you. Change is necessary, otherwise we'd still have slaves and a lot of other things.

You try to say that religious people wont listen to logic yet you support altruistic causes, socialism, and have a problem with capitalism.
You good sir are a hypocrite.

Excellent point. We need to fight for abortion rights! I agree with you 100%
I think arguing about a word is wasting time. It's just a word. If they say "this is a christian nation", by all means shove it in their fat faces that it's not. I'd be right there with you.
Just stop giving a shit about a MEANINGLESS WORD. God means absolutely NOTHING.
Alright well you guys have fun arguing with these uneducated morons I'm done here.
the USA isnt a religious nation, however "under god" has been part of history, and i doubt they will ever change it
If it wasn't for religion you wouldn't have justice (the band).

They're actually not religious I learned, they use the cross as a symbol of "the religion of music" or something like that.
Or so someone told me
Alright well you guys have fun arguing with these uneducated morons I'm done here.
You're a really persistent troll =]
Sad part is our country was born under Free Masonry....But still, I think it's something that's good too say in the morning and half of the people at my school won't say it anyway so why would it fucking matter? Just lip-sync it.
History lesson:

Told you it's fun.

Ich bin ein sucker
I didn't realize government and religion were minor issues, sorry.
They aren't, but two words in a series of many sentences that you very rarely ever say are minor issues.
[editline]05:48PM[/editline]
Why the hell does it matter anyway? They aren't saying "Believe in god or I'll fucking kill you". Nobody is forcing you to say it, and the founders of this nation believed in god, hence why it is there.
They don't want me to get an abortion because I'm killing one of my children
No, that's probably why.
You are allowed to say the pledge with under god already anyway. If you don't like under god, too bad, the two largest world religions have no problem with it, Christianity and Islam. The United States isn't going to completely ban something because a small percentage of the population disagrees with it when they aren't obligated to do it in the first place.
