• Why hasn't "under god" been removed from the American pledge?

What the hell would be the point of changing it now? Most likely, people will just say it the way it's been known for years, or not care.
AMERICA IS A CHRISTIAN NATION didn't you know?
AMERICA IS A CHRISTIAN NATION didn't you know?
No wai!
I think when they say "God" they mean that all people are united instead of saying "hurr durr Jesus blah blah gays are bad"

Jesus, you people are really stretching the metaphor card.
so its pretty much established that 60% - 70% of fp is atheist Where do u all think this universe came from?
Don't turn this into a religious argument.
so its pretty much established that 60% - 70% of fp is atheist Where do u all think this universe came from?
your mom
Hahahahaha. Facepunch is too fucking easy to troll. :munch:
so its pretty much established that 60% - 70% of fp is atheist Where do u all think this universe came from?
God. And if they tried to remove "under god" from it. Can you imagine the protests and how pissed off people would be? Remember that still majority of the nation believes in god.
God. And if they tried to remove "under god" from it. Can you imagine the protests and how pissed off people would be? Remember that still majority of the nation believes in god.
Yeah except that keeping it as an official pledge of allegiance means that the position of the government is that there is a god, even though America is a secular nation. This has nothing to do with what the majority thinks and everything to do with the government keeping out of private affairs such as religion.
Because no matter how many times people pay lip service to equality, in reality it's the majority that bosses the minority.
Better question, why is it mandatory to say the pledge in classrooms?
Hahahahaha. Facepunch is too fucking easy to troll. :munch:
I'm a rebel, I fight the system, and I hate God because everyone around me who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
I'm a rebel, I fight the system, and I hate God because everyone around me who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Alright. I'll let you get back to arguing pointlessly. I'll be here watching and munching chips and chugging soda. :munch:
It's the document that grants me my individual rights as an American citizen, I kind of care about it.
Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzing!
As many may know I am an Atheist, but it is my stance that under god should remain in the pledge for sentimental value and tradition. It is a reminder of what ideals our nation was found upon, and though I may not agree with the religious aspect of it all I do agree with the ideals. I am a patriot, I love my country (although I may not be to fond of it's government) and I wish to maintain such traditions for our nation. Hell, if you're a hardcore Atheist why not change the meaning of "under god"? Once could interpret "under god" as "under all of man" since the idea of a god came from man.
your mom
Indeed.
It doesn't matter they're never gonna change it and there's nothing you can do so really you're just bawww'ing.
Rate me clocks but this pisses me off. It's just two fucking words. I NEVER minded it, and I still don't. No, I'm not some diehard Christian but we are a CHRISTIAN NATION. People fail to realize it and never will realize it. Now I'm not saying that we should go all "HURP DURP JESUS IS TEH BEST LULZ", but we should take into consideration that most of the people in the country are Christian and always will be. I am an atheist by the way, so don't say "CHRISTFAG HURR DURR".
It is a reminder of what ideals our nation was found upon,
Like separation of church and state?
Hell, if you're a hardcore Atheist why not change the meaning of "under god"? Once could interpret "under god" as "under all of man" since the idea of a god came from man.
No, that is silly

Come back when your cynicism is well founded.
It's the document that grants me my individual rights as an American citizen, I kind of care about it.
So you're saying you don't want the right to God? You're welcome to Hell then.

NO COMPROMISES!
I'm a rebel, I fight the system, and I hate God because everyone around me who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.
Ho ho ho, shine on you crazy diamond!
No we're not ya dumbass. The whole point of this country was to escape from a "christian nation". Come back when your cynicism is well founded.
Actually the number one religious affiliation within the U.S. is Christianity. 159,030,000 adult members Followed by non-religious/secular members: 27,539,000 The difference is staggering. source: http://www.adherents.com/rel_USA.html#religions It doesn't change the fact however, that a majority should rule the whole mass. When it comes to other things that is. This one word thing is stupid.
So you're saying you don't want the right to God? You're welcome to Hell then.
Non-sequitur arguments are as terrible as a triceratops.
So you're saying you don't want the right to God? You're welcome to Hell then.
what seriously, that makes no sense what are you trying to say
No we're not ya dumbass. The whole point of this country was to escape from a "christian nation". Come back when your cynicism is well founded.
Most of our laws are based on the bible.
Most of our laws are based on the bible.
No. They're not.
