I pledge allegiance to the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation, with liberty and justice for all.
I'd like an order of both please Billiam.
@bobbydigital, just sounds awkward saying it, ruins the ring of it.
Told you it's fun.
I know right.
SUPREME
I pledge allegiance to the United States of America and to the republic for which it stands. One nation, with liberty and justice for all.
More apropriately,
I pledge adherence to myself, and the conciousness for which it is, with reason as my absolute. One man, free from self sacrifice, and refraining from the sacrifice of others.
but really why even have such a thing, there is really no need for people to stand up and ceremonially state their belifes every morning.
and those that say it is there for history or tradition, must realize that through such an act they rejecting reason and saying that an act is either morally good, or correct from a knowledge standpoint simply because it is old, which is as silly as saying that something is good simply because it is new.
god sent his sun jesus to die for your sins!
You are allowed to say the pledge with under god already anyway. If you don't like under god, too bad, the two largest world religions have no problem with it, Christianity and Islam. The United States isn't going to completely ban something because a small percentage of the population disagrees with it when they aren't obligated to do it in the first place.
welcome to the united states of America.
it has a constitution
let me quote it:
"derubermensch is a dummy."
In school they force you too say it every morning.
No they don't moron, they make you stand for it because it's respectful, you don't go to another country and while they give their pledge you just sit your ass down, no you fucking stand.
You don't have to recite the pledge, just stand for it.
so its pretty much established that 60% - 70% of fp is atheist
Where do u all think this universe came from?
respectful to a fucked up country?
you don't have to respect everything just because you want to.
I'll be starting to not say the pledge at schools and then I'll take it to court.
Wait fuck I still need to tell my mom that I'm an atheist :(
Say this pledge instead.
About 95% of the population believes in god, to be exact. Negligible minority aren't they?
95% of the population would love to not pay taxes yet everyone still pays taxes
great cthulhu
That's nonsense.
It was more likely Yog-Sothoth or Azathoth.
god sent his sun jesus to die for your sins!
nonsense, hes not going to die for another couple billion years
Doesn't matter what Charles Darwin believed in this thread, he-did-it--> was trying to be funny.
Hell Darwin didn't even invent the theory of evolution.

Also believe it or not Conservatives insult us liberals just as much.
Listen to some republican radio talk shows and you will understand this.
Leave it in, it's not like it messes with anyone but people who dislike America anyways.
About 95% of the population believes in god, to be exact. Negligible minority aren't they?
Source plz.
You really honestly care so much you had to make a thread about it?
there are two types of people in this world:
those who look at something like this, ignore it, and get on with theyre lives
and those who rush home and complain about it on the internet
Whitch one are you?
TL; DR
People don't understand what Seperation of Church and State means.
It just means that we aren't a theocracy, and the church won't run the government.
[editline]07:24AM[/editline]
Also, all presidents have been fairly religious, at least the successful ones.

Oh cool, Madoff Mots jets sells for $14,500. :v:
I actually thought that was a spelling mistake too. Why Will won't pledge allegiance. Will he?
No they don't moron, they make you stand for it because it's respectful, you don't go to another country and while they give their pledge you just sit your ass down, no you fucking stand.

That's fucking retarded. You don't stand in YOUR OWN country and make a pledge because some religious nut finds it disrespectful to do otherwise.
No, just about everyone thinks its disrespectful to not stand for the pledge. If you don't want to stand for the pledge (not say it) then why are you even here? Obviously you don't like your nation then.
Yeah except that keeping it as an official pledge of allegiance means that the position of the government is that there is a god, even though America is a secular nation. This has nothing to do with what the majority thinks and everything to do with the government keeping out of private affairs such as religion.
But the governance is "democratic", and democracy has everything to do with what the majority thinks. The problem is that the minority, even though they are being suppressed, do not oppose democracy. This is insanity by definition.
Well, it is a tradition. At least religion is not a major part in our government.
In fact, the US is on of the most religion nations. Or, at least as far as Christianity goes. 95% is a drastic misconception. If you are referring to the US, deruber, then you mean roughly 11%.
I am not sure of the entire human population.
That's nonsense.

I don't really think so.
hm... I was thinking more of Dagon or Y'golonac...

Tyranny of the majority.
that's why democracy as a whole is a failure.
