Honestly, just don't say it. If you REALLY feel that angered about it. Like what has God ever done to you anyways? And I never said Religion, God Himself, what has He done to you that is SO bad you refuse to even mention his name? This question does not include an argument stating that The crusades, Murders in the name of God, or anything done wrong in the name of God is ok. I personally believe that if you use God as the way out, you are not a follower of Jesus or God. If you use God as a reason to do what you want, then you are looking for an easy way out with gullible people. Or just extremely brain washed that it's ok to hurt people and things for God.
Just maybe some people would like their government to remain objective and not concern itself with religious affairs in state business.
I don't pledge allegiance for 1 reason: If shit ever goes down I'm getting the fuck out of here.
And you people are retarded, I'm not whining or crying or HULK SMASH RAGE, I don't see how being angry with the issue of separation of church and state, a very important issue, means I'm "crying".
Separation of church and state means that the church can't make any political decisions for us. Back in europe when this was first written, the church held a lot of political power and became overall corrupt for it. It doesn't mean we nitpick at every instance of the word god amongst our official documents.
who cares about two words
Nobody forces you, you have the right to remain seated. In before every republican in existence is blamed.
Im forced to stand up, yet not forced to say it or participate.
It's blatantly unconstitutional as it infringes on separation of church and state, and it was only added during the Cold War by some priest because back then if you were an atheist you were considered a Russian red commie who wanted to burn the capitalist pigs. Goddammit, america. Same goes for the motto "In God We Trust" now that I think about. Fff-
because freedom of religion is in the first amendment
when was the last time you were forced to say it? does it burn you everytime you touch a coin that says that in your pocket? ignore it just like Christians ignore most athiests cus the majority of the world believes in GOD no matter if you are Muslim or Catholic its the same GOD gotta think that you are just a minority wanting to remove something that has been around for what 150+ years? it might be taken out but it will just cause crazy Christians to revolt and shit. just live with it. not hurting anybody. if you dont agree with it then you dont agree! simple
1. They don't ignore atheists, they don't do anything of the sort. 2. We're not a minority, Buddhists, Hindus, and other poly/atheistic religions don't like it. 3. America is supposed to be a country of freedom, without a national religion. There's no reason for the coins and such to have it, so they ought to just mint new ones without it. It doesn't take any effort, and it makes the country a better place overall. 4. Oh, and it's only been like this for around 50 years.
2. We're not a minority, Buddhists, Hindus, and other poly/atheistic religions don't like it.
Still a minority.
In our school, no one gives a shit if you don't say the pledge, they just give a shit if you stand up. Even then, it's not that badly forced. Yet again, I'm in Mass, so it's always really lenient.
Rural Kansas, that's probably what my problem was. >_<
Religion was a big part of our founding father's heritage. It was a huge reason why people came to the colonies. It is a part of America's heritage, therefore it should stay there to honor the people who saw this country through its first years of independence.

It's symbolism for how this is a free land where you can come and practice whatever you please.
my god op really lacks insight it would cause a shitstorm pretty much and do you really think the united states really is willing to change the pledge just because some teen on some internet forum has different views on religion? no of course not op is dumb
Exactly, they weren't trying to troll you. It's symbolism for how this is a free land where you can come and practice whatever you please.
That doesn't make sense. Not acknowledging any religion is a better indicator that you're allowed to practice or not practice religion however you please.
i got an idea. lets keep it the same until one day we can bring back Washington and all the founding fathers and have them decide for themselves.
i got an idea. lets keep it the same until one day we can bring back Washington and all the founding fathers and have them decide for themselves.
That won't work, because the second they see what has become of their beloved country, they'd kill themselves.
i got an idea. lets keep it the same until one day we can bring back Washington and all the founding fathers and have them decide for themselves.
Washington will be too busy saving children (but not the British children) and fucking the shit out of bears to give a shit.
then lets make a time machine and go back in time and change all this so they make it known that either America is a Christian country or truly a FREE country
Washington will be too busy ... fucking the shit out of bears to give a shit.
I'm sure Colbert will be happy.
The town should have said the tree was pagan symbolism just to watch the christians squirm.
Nobody would have cared. Most of us are not Catholics anyway.
Still a minority.
A minority, but not the minority, which helps in the long run.
A minority, but not the minority, which helps in the long run.
No, you're still the minority.
Probably late, but I have to bring this up on every thread like this:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof;
That's all it says. Nowhere in the Constitution is anything brought up about this bullshit "Separation of Church and State." That's a generic concept, but not one actually mentioned in the Constitution. The words to the pledge are old from a time when the U.S. was almost entirely composed of monotheistic religions and it made sense, but nobody is forcing you to say the pledge, and nobody is prohibiting you from exercising your religious rights, so shut the fuck up. That is all.
It was founded under christianity.

the Government of the United States of America is not, in any sense, founded on the Christian religion
No.
my god op really lacks insight it would cause a shitstorm pretty much and do you really think the united states really is willing to change the pledge just because some teen on some internet forum has different views on religion? no of course not op is dumb
thank you for you wonderful contribution and totally not understanding the point.
Religion was a big part of our founding father's heritage. It was a huge reason why people came to the colonies. It is a part of America's heritage, therefore it should stay there to honor the people who saw this country through its first years of independence.
Once again, they kept religion out of it when they drafted up their documents, Thomas Jefferson notable for not showing much interest in a deity, and Washington's religious views are still controversial.
You know that you won't get it changed by posting on an internet forum right? Plus I hope it doesn't get changed..
It's called a discussion you tool.
Because we're not going to change something because you don't like it.
Wakka here with an incredibly stupid and right wing post. as usual. enjoy everyone
If Dwight D. Fucking Eisenhower wants "under God" in the mother fucking pledge, it will be in the mother fucking pledge. I'm pretty sure there are multiple states which do not say the pledge because of that. So if it really pisses you off that much, move there or out of the country.
I think you should think before you post. If that's possible.
"God" is an umbrella term. It does not say under the Lord Jesus Christ my Savior and God. If you're an atheist, what does it matter? "Oh darn I said under God, now I have to be a Christian :saddowns:." You get over with it, and you get back to school. After you graduate/drop out, I highly doubt you will ever say it again. Church and state is separated. There is no state religion, we don't have laws like "no eating ham/fish/pork" just because some religious text says it's wrong, and we don't go around banning heretical material. Just because there are two words in a pledge you aren't being forced to say doesn't mean OMG THE EVIL CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIANS RULE THE GOVERNMENT!!!!. Just don't say it.
You do realize how fucking superficial is pile of trash you call a post is, right? btw, sparky, why do you think gay marriage is banned? and the establishment clause is not the only god damn part of separation of church and state.
you guys do realize that the separation of church and state isn't a law. it's an idea that someone once said, and isn't official what so ever. people just like to say it. but i do agree that that should be taken out.
The founders of the united states were in christian in one way or form. Plus back then religion was straight up serious.
You guys gotta stop arguing about the "under god" part because its irrelivant, You should be far more concerned with the silliness of nationalism, and ritually pledging your allegiance to said nation on a daily basis. Reciting such nationalistic dribble is so repulsive that one might as well have it as "one nation under the omnipotent goatfucker and Michael Jackson" because the whole pledge is ridiculous.
and yes "Separation of church and state" was quoted from a letter written by Thomas Jefferson, the letter was talking about the first amendment, TJ felt like it walled off the two. [editline]02:33PM[/editline] I hardly believe in my birth religion but i still feel like "under god" should still be present in American currency. Some butthurt person will always find something to cry about and will demand it removed somehow. Deal with it.
It's called a discussion you tool.
stop using that word wrong. I see you using it a lot in the wrong way.
