Religion was a big part of our founding father's heritage. It was a huge reason why people came to the colonies. It is a part of America's heritage, therefore it should stay there to honor the people who saw this country through its first years of independence.
Times change broseph
Another history lesson for the one who didn't pay attention in history class: The First Amendment only states that the government is not allowed to establish a religion or inhibit the right to practice any religion.
YEAH THAT IS SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE you fucking pillock. Like, really? You can't figure that out? It's quite obvious that it's a wall between Church, and Government. A wall, AKA: SEPARATION. Also, you're stupid. You didn't say the First Amendment right: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" Congress Shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion: This means they can't respect any religion, period. Pretty self explanatory. Having 'Under God' in the pledge CLEARLY BREAKS THIS. Or prohibiting the free exercise thereof: This means they can't make a law banning a religion or stop people from praying or doing other religious things.
Well, every morning here in Canada we have to sing "god keep our land glorious and free."
oh look at you, not knowing the difference between the establishment clause and the separation and church and state
Please show me the separation of church and state clause in the United States Constitution then.
it's our right as americans to have these thing in our nation's pledge, and on our currency. if you don't like it go live in another country without freedom of speech, if not then stop your bitching and get over it.

It's actually infringing your rights.
That sucks ass man, I know what you we're probably thinking "Shut the fuck up pussy, its a damn tree, you Don't have to get butt hurt its a damn holiday, change your tampon bitch." But don't, understand that people will do whatever they can to moan and cry about something that really doesn't affect them at all. *COUGH* half the people in this thread *COUGH*
Sorry but public tax money was being used to put up that display so he has every right to bitch about it.
Sorry but public tax money was being used to put up that display so he has every right to bitch about it.
Word like a motherfucker.
coming from a person with the symbol of the soviet flag as your avatar, how surprising
Oh ok you're just trolling. For your sake lets hope you are, otherwise you're legitimately retarded and I will kind of pitty you.
Who fucking cares No, it's not your right. It's actually infringing your rights.
if more people believe in religion in the united states I think their rights are going to outweigh yours. What's worse? a couple of kids being pissy about the pledge saying "under god" or 50+% of the nation being pissy about removing "under god" from the pledge? majority always wins?
God bless this thread, keep it safe from trolls and use your +5 magic ability to make these 'tards stop arguing about stupid shit.

Their rights are the same as mine no matter what. Just because there is a majority of one religion doesn't mean the rights change you dumbass. That's the very reason Separation of Church and State was created. God seriously you must either be 13 or just didn't pay attention in school. OH LOL you're from Alabama, that explains a lot. [editline]08:57PM[/editline]
actually no i'm not, but if you find happiness in having pitty on me then who am i to stop you
Ok then you're just retarded have fun.
I received detention one morning because I didn't speak or put my hand over my heart. I then received an office referral for arguing with the teacher.
I received detention one morning because I didn't speak or put my hand over my heart. I then received an office referral for arguing with the teacher.
You shouldn't have done the detention and taken that shit to the courts, bro.
Why is this even a debate? I don't believe in a god. It's a meaningless word, representing some sort of ideal. I don't give a fuck that it's in there. Why should I? I understand if it said "one nation under satan" and a bunch of christians would rally. That goes against their belief; that is to say something like that. But to me (and people complaining about this for the majority) it's just a word.
Please show me the separation of church and state clause in the United States Constitution then.
Separation of church and state is an accepted idea among the founding fathers and it's pretty obvious it was involved with the constitution. The establishment clause is the just that.

But to me (and people complaining about this for the majority) it's just a word.
You need to understand that this has nothing to do with going against what people believe, Because that is a secondary issue. The main reason it needs to be taken out is because it infringes on the first Amendment. [editline]09:02PM[/editline]
Separation of church and state is an accepted idea among the founding fathers and it's pretty obvious it was involved with the constitution. The establishment clause is the just that.
Yeah, word. It's the same thing, just in different wording. I mean, granted, if you're a retard, it's going to be a little hard to grasp the idea and understand it but with time maybe.

Also, if you're trying to convince me that "under God" should be taken out of the pledge you're doing a terrible job, because you just keep calling me stupid. Last time I checked, if you try to gain support you try to NOT call them stupid. FYI, I'm actually German. Good job bringing in irrelevant information though.

Then you are actually stupid, because you don't understand how our government works clearly and should just leave the thread. The Congress cannot change the bill of rights.
It's people like this that give us atheists a bad name. YOU SHOULDN'T CARE. "Bwaaah! It poisons my children's mind!" - Oh yeah? I was raised by catholics and went to Catholic school, yet somehow I managed to reason that the idea of a god is just too ridiculous and medieval. If you're a good parent your kids wont be idiots. "Bwaaah! I they kill people in the name of their god!" - Yeah, welcome to reality. People have been killing each other in the name of dumb things all throughout history. It doesn't make it ok, but we have a name for those people. Radicals. For the most part, we've been fighting them. "Bwaaah! Gays can't marry!" - I'm gay. I realize that one of the major stops from my right to marry is religion. It's something that we (gays) have to perservere through, and win our right. It doesn't make someone's beliefs or a fucking WORD in a meaningless ceremonial thing the most horrid thing in the world. I don't want people to think gay marriage is right, just to be able to marry. Let people think what they want to.
infringes on the first Amendment. .
You have a right to not say the pledge. Where's the problem here?
Why teh hell else? We are a CHRISTIAN nation! We were founded on CHRISTIANITY, and no matter what a president says, we always will be. Sure, we have other religions here, but a majority of us are CHRISTIANS! My hometown is CHRISTIANS. Why am I enforcing those two words? Cause that's America. Now, either go learn something or rape yourself. And, yes, we don't force people to pledge cause we have freedom, and we don't give a shit if your muslim, bhuddist, atheist, or whatever else, you don't have to so stop whining.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Treaty_of_Tripoli#Article_11
Alright who are you talking about because no one is saying this from what I can see.
I was discussing atheists in general. We are given a bad name because of those who are these semantics.
You have a right to not say the pledge. Where's the problem here?
The first amendment isn't only about speech
