My mum hates this. She tells me I should quit. Do you agree?

Bah this is bullshit. If I had a really good sounding voice, nice orchestration, interesting arrangements, and a generally sweet "feel-good" atmosphere around my songs, I could be just as cool as your stupid band.
But I don't... though you do, for real! :D
I woulda liked this if you didn't make up some bullshit advertising to get me to click the thread
I really liked this song, despite how you lured me in (I found myself in the thread not even sure what why I clicked it). The cello/violin was really catchy, and it was a nice upbeat, pretty inspirational song.
What? Don't quit, this shit's great. The mix is so clean and professional. And the language you sing in is awesome.

I will use less aggressive means of advertising in the future to avoid this.

That's possibly the first time in the history of the world that Gaelic has been described as awesome, so that's an achievement in itself. Cheers!

Lol, glad you could overlook how I lured you. Some people find that hard.

Can I just say thanks very much to everyone who has given me feedback. The negative feedback is just, if not more, important that the positive. My primary reason for posting this was to simply get feedback which I could use to make improvements. Facepunch, and you guys, have facilitated this. I will post more stuff for your scrutiny soon.
The thread name is admittedly lacking in integrity, but to be honest since embarking on this Gaelic album it has been my experience that I've needed to be as creative as possible to entice people to listen to this language only spoken by scarcely 50,000 people. However, my mum does think it's shit, and no, I don't care that she does. That's her opinion and she's just as entitled to that as anyone else is.
The title of the thread may have been disingenuous, but my intention and thanks are sincere: TAPADH LEIBH!

Wow, due to you admitting that it's a troll thread. Your respect from me has decreased, ten-fold.
...that being said, I did realise beforehand that you were playing around. :>

I'm glad to hear that. So conversely, my respect for you has increased ten-fold. But still in future I should be careful to label hyperbole in case people just don't know it when they see it. Do you honestly think that was aggressive advertising? It was neither advertising nor aggressive. My aim was to get feedback and that's what I got, and grateful I am for it too. I presented the feedback I got from my mum, and then asked everyone else for feedback. What's the big deal? Hold on, I get it, @AK'z, you are actually my mum in disguise, aren't you?
[editline]4th January 2012[/editline]
Anyway, I thought troll threads are meant to make people deviate from a topic or theme? Your argument is that I used a troll thread to make people gravitate towards it. That doesn't make sense. My intentions were good mate, as was the outcome. No hard feelings dude, I'm new to the world of forums.

Yes. Go to bed.
Great work! I sent you a PM regarding a possible interview, hope you're up to it.
I know my boss would be happy about getting an exclusive interview for the website.. :v:

You'll have to take my word as his brother that my mum did bitch a bit about it. Especially the artwork. He just over exaggerated it a bit. :P
So he doesn't really care what she thinks...
Why didn't you just create a normal thread like everyone else instead of making up some shit about your old mother.
This deserves a better title and less mother talk.
I think that it was pretty cool, though I agree with people saying that it lacks a little something. If you ask me, all it needs is stronger, louder vocals, sung using more air.
Someone on this thread doesn't seem to understand the rating system, though:

You've seen how much attention the other threads got compared to this one yeah? Why do you have to go by what everyone else does?
She also thinks the artwork is terrible and that I should have consulted her first. She suggested a picture of a beach instead.

You know what, to be honest, if my mum liked it I would be convinced it was shit.

That's great thanks for that. I'm taking singing lessons soon to help me out with my voice; perhaps one of the poorest instruments in the band.
Seems like a nice and calm song, I dont know why your mum is complaining.
If you were playing death metal in her garage I would've understood it a bit, but this is just 'normal'.
Don't quit.
Nice advertising technique, but I didn't even listen to the music, I just know that whatever it is, your mum shouldn't talk shit about it
I like the song, but the lyrics feels sort of off to me. And don't take this personally or anything because I'm really in general against lyrics, especially if the song can stand well on the actual melody, which your song can with all the strings and guitars and everything. IMO if the lyrics would be understandable to me, it would've been better because then I can actually understand them(no shit). Now it just sounds like you recorded some sort of gibberish (I know it's english gaelic) over a very good melody. This only works if you really make the song a part of the melody, like it's own tune. Some celtic artist have managed this very well, but he was popular a long time ago and his name slips my tongue atm. Lyrics-wise, I think the melody becomes much better when the girl starts to sing, because that's when I felt that the lyrics became part of the melody.
But I still like the melody, the strings are a very nice touch, and it's made better by seeing you guys play and having fun etc. I think you should continue, I would most definitely listen to an instrumental of this, but as said, I am really not a person that fancies lyrics in songs at all. Now don't take my word for it, I'm sure I'm the only one that feels this way and it's not worth rearranging your songs just because of what I say. Do either what you feel like most or what attracts the most people.
I wish you the best of luck, and have a good day.

You were a pretty cool guy to interview, and it was pointed out to me many many hours after I submitted my questions that asking about voice lessons would probably be taken the wrong way, so I feel I need to emphasize this..
You sing very well!
But voice lessons would certainly be a plus. Honestly, as long as you don't do what certain singers do and try to sing way out of your range, you should be fine.
I'm really diggin this. The melodies are fantastic. I've got it playing right now as I'm typing this. The fact that the language used in the song is different from my own makes the vocals feel more like an instrument to me then they do actual words. I can sort of see G-Strogg's point, My favorite part is when the girl starts to sing as well, but the above is just my opinion
I sent a few of my friends a link to where they can check out your music, and I'm deffinately looking forward to purchasing your album.
What do you mean? I don't see anything odd about those ratings.
Maybe it was you, then.
Dunno about everyone else but I don't see anything friendly about "good job, asswipe", or anything artistic about "Your mum is a dick".
Just Sayin

Its called sarcasm.
Also, you can click the '(list)' next to a post's ratings to see who rated what.

Haha, don't be silly, that was a perfectly reasonable question! Knowing one's own limitations is the first step towards improvement, and I know that my voice could be better. Even some of the best singers get coaching of some form or another to increase their longevity and reduce vocal fatigue.

That's awesome, glad you like it! By all means find us on Facebook and we'll give you a shout when it's ready. Going to the recording studio in March to start on it. For now, I got to make sure the arrangements are spot on. I'll post more songs here though to get some more feedback as I go along. It's very helpful.
man fuck this thread and fuck this guy
this is good

It reminds me of Sigur Ros, I like it. Don't mind the haters; do what you love.
