How do you apply the finishes? Do you use a big old paintbrush or do you have to like rub the oil in?
Oil finishes you can brush, but I prefer to hand rub it with a cloth, then do wetsandings to get it smooth.
For high gloss, you have to do a sealing layer, I'm planning on using shellac as a sealer to give it an older look, then you have to do a bunch of lacquer coats, and then leave it to cure for 1-6 weeks depending on how careful you want to be. you then have to wetsand the top layer of the lacquer with some 600+ sandpaper, to get it very smooth, then you have to polish it with a buffing pad of some sort.
After that, you'll have that trademark high gloss.
I'll just put these here.

I want that guitar.
I want 800 dollars :eng101:
man that looks schweet!
Hypno-Toad, how many guitars do you have now? Do you just make them all yourself, or do you have a couple of store-bought guitars?
Could you take new pictures of the other ones you made? That pic looks high quality

Here's all of the ones I have to date

First two are a bit crappier, I'm probably going to recycle them into new guitars. It's a shame because the bodies are made of nice wood.

What wood did you use on the second one? It looks awesome IMO.
[editline]11:31AM[/editline]
Also, can you play yet? :D
Gotta say man, I really dig that Tele with the floating bridge.
The first tele and strat look awesome
As everyone says, the first two look fucking awesome, fancy selling one? and how much for?
What's crappy about the first two? They look great.
He probably made a minor mistake that's not even noticeable and punishing himself for it :v:
I think he said a while back the fret scale was wrong and their intonation was off, I could be wrong though
What's crappy about the first two? They look great.
They look great, but the neck on the blackie is made out of spalted maple, which was an awful idea because it's apparently very soft which has caused many problems, the body is crumily made, too.. The tele's bridge is positioned too close to the neck, so the guitar is permanently way out of intonation :geno: I miscalculated something while positioning it. I made those in highschool, and was learning from a teacher-made guide made by a total idiot (apparently) It grossly oversimplified every aspect of guitar making.
I'll probably re-create the super tele just because I like the way it turned out, but probably won't use the satin walnut body again because it's rediculously heavy. If I come across satin walnut again I could probably use it for a body top just for looks.
That's a real shame. But why do you call it a super-tele?
Because it doesn't retain many characteristics of a tele. it's more like a super strat, but with the tele look.
the 2nd one looks the best imo
i love how that wood and that white faceplate go together
and that wood is just lovely on its own
I think this 5th one is the best looking, in terms of body shape and wood.
Ah, I see. But can't you just replace the neck?
Black walnut is better suited for a neckwood because it's so godamn heavy. I thoroughly fucked up that body by making a large swimming-pool body route, I was so naive. :v:
Ah, I see. But can't you just replace the neck?
I could, but the body is sorta lame, too. I'll probably keep the body around because I could probably do an overhaul on it, by stripping the finish, filling in the swimming pool, etc. Hmm, I may as well disassemble it right now. I want to take the trussrod, headnut, and tuners off the neck because those are quite useful.
So what jkind of shape would you like the super-tele to be?

Haha, the inside doesn't mean much to me.
That really dulls the sound, though. makes it plasticey because the pickups are attached to the pickgaurd, and the pickgaurd has all that open space under it so it vibrates.
That's why im putting everything in from the back :P
I thought there was only supposed to be a visible space at the top for the pickups if they were out.
