Aww, no natural finish? That stripe looking nice.
I'm painting the back because the basswood looks sort of drab, and was stained (in an ugly way) by the padauk.
If you attacked padauk to anything white, it will make the white thing turn pink. It not a nice pink, either, it's really ugly.
I think a gloss black would look stylish on the back.
It would look good on the back, but when looking at the back and front together I think it would look sort of awkward.

I think it would be a nicer transition than white. Maybe it would look nice with a white pinstripe in between. To photoshop!

Probably doesn't really suit the top. Would look nice if the top wasn't as red.
Looks pretty badass with a burst though.

The burst looks pretty good. Though it's too late to change hardware color now :v: I've got a spare black bridge humbucker, but the pickup rings and bridge are both chrome. Maybe photo shop that?
Also, the maple fretboard. Don't think stains are the greatest idea for a surface like the fretboard. Then again, the maple neck might match the stripe.
Lots of people 'ebonize' rosewood fretboards, dunno about maple though.
I'll do another photoshop when I have some more free time tomorrow.
Taking a bit of break from this project, I took a look at the telecaster I never finished. I didn't route the electronics cavities deep enough, so it failed. I now have a longer router bit, so I went and cut all the cavities deeper. While all the hardware was off, I thought the thin oil finish looked sort of lame. So I sanded it down, and started spraying some of the high gloss nitro I have.
Hot damn, look at that, isn't that a lot better?

Missed this part of your post earlier :saddowns:
I said I was going to be painting it copper. The white is just a primer coat.
I tried the "copper paint." I bought it quite a while ago, and as it turns out, it's actually a matte gunmetal/onyx color. (click to see an example of the color)
Oh well, I guess I'll be using it :3:
I finally got some painters tape, so the paint job is coming along. Will probably finish painting the back and sides tomorrow (if the weather is good) and then I'll begin lacquering the back, then I'll do a few final lacquer coats over the entire body. After the lacquer is cured (1 week) I'll wet sand, then buff. Then the body will finally be done.
I don't like the thought of metallic paint on a guitar.
I think Ibanez does a lot of metallic paintjobs.
It looks a bit like this, but darker:

It's only on the back and sides, too.
Sure it looks good like that, but mixing metallic back and sides with natural top, I'm not so sure.
I'm not sure either, but it seems nothing really looks good with that. The white didn't either, I don't think black looks particularly good, but It's too late to do a burst. Hell, even the basswood didnt look any good. This should look acceptable, though.
Here's a shot so far. Looks Ok, not great, but the basswood looked like crap so it's an improvement. The padauk doesn't want anything next to it :frog: But, the metallic color won't stand out so much once all the chrome hardware is on.
Excuse the shitty lighting in my room.

Got a bit of cleanup around the edges to do.
Alright, I think Ive done enough lacquer on the body. Going to let that cure (7 days) so I guess I'll resume work on the neck.
Gluing the fretboard down. This time, I secured the trussrod inside the neck with silicon. Should add a bit more stability to the trussrod.
Here's a picture of everything so far. Finish looks a bit waxy because I did a light mist for the last coat (also, I still havn't leveled or polished it). neck is still WIP, but is coming together. Truss rod is in, and fretboard is on.

Looks fucking awesome, toad...
I really love the way this one feels. Can't wait till it's working. I'm not going to want to sell it :saddowns: I got the neck to the way I like it, very comfortable for me (dunno about other people, since I'll probably sell it :geno:) and the body is very lightweight, the body and neck are quite balanced.
There's a fair number of blemishes in the finish (the nitro had some reaction with some of the paint in two places) but, it's a pretty rugged guitar and will be able to stand up to abuse while still looking good. Very comfortable, too.
I really wish you lived on this side of the pond. I'd love to have one of your guitars...
I'm gonna start building a guitar soon, when I get the plans printed up...
Shots of the neck so far. Ran out of fretwire 2 frets short >:(
I'll run out and grab some grover tuners, strap buttons, and some more medium fretwire tomorrow.

Finish has been wet sanded and buffer-polished. The top is like a mirror, and smooth like a babbie's bottom.

Really ballsy looking guitar :v:
somehow I think that Les Paul floating bridge thing would have looked better.
I've never seen a Les Paul with a floating bridge
somehow I think that Les Paul floating bridge thing would have looked better.
A floating tremolo would not have worked on this guitar because it's hollow.
If you mean a Tune-o-matic, well, that's not a floating bridge. Either way, a hardtail is nice and simple. I was going for feature simplicity with this one.
I've never seen a Les Paul with a floating bridge
An actual Les Paul? Or a Les Paul style body?
An actual Les Paul? Or a Les Paul style body?
Epiphone does the Les Paul Goth" with a floyd rose, Some old SG's had tremolos, and I think some older Les Pauls had them also. But it was more of a vibrato tailpeice, rather than an actual tremolo.

They exist, I would love one. As a matter of fact I believe the first floyd rose was installed on a les paul. Although it wasn't a floating trem... Just a fun fact.
Impressive. You do some good guitar's.

Wow, it may be "crappier", but that is one sexy stratocaster.
you should make a 5 string bass
You need to pm me a couple prices on some things I'm interested in
-Telecaster copy guitar
-Les paul copy guitar
-Precision bass neck that will fit fender bodies
Prices as in?
Not sure what you're referring to.
