I'm not racist, I just hate everyone. :)
Guys, serious question. I'm Indonesian and I'm going to move to Australia for college, are you guys racist to Indonesians ?
Despite what you have heard on the news about Indians getting beaten, there is very little racism in Australia, except in the city, they tend to have a a lot of Asian gangs that will beat the shit out of you for no reason. Not being racist, I know a guy who is a police officer and he says 90% of the Indian attacks are Asian gangs.
tell me how many game devs are in your city
fyi harley melbourne actually has more game devs than most cities in the world [editline]18th January 2011[/editline]
There's options for more or less everyone nowadays. Except, perhaps, people with philosophy degrees. Philosophising is one of those things that seems to be done personally and in ones own time nowadays. There seems to be no room for it as a 'job' nowadays like there used to be for it.
friend of mine recently graduated as a philiosopher, admittedly he had a bit of a crisis when he remembered that no real career can stem from just philosophy he can do an education masters in 2 years and be one of the best paid educators around though which is pretty sick unimelb wins
I wanna go study in Australia :3:
I wanna go study in Australia :3:
Where are you from
Rusty lots of people say that, but I don't have any passions that can be followed in a uni course. When I went to the open day they showed off the careers of dozens of students who followed international studies majors all the way through and they're working in the UN and at diplomatic offices all around the world, I think that would be the kind of thing I'm interested in anyway. That said, Arts first year is supposed to just be a massive chill anyway, so that suits me fine.
Oh yeah also fuck off that I mispelt lamington, got sidetracked :| I'm not sure if anyone has ever done this before, but I was bored, k? [img_thumb]http://madeinoz.com/800pxd-Flag_of_Australia.svg.png[/img_thumb] Australia is a developed country in the Southern Hemisphere and part of the British Commonwealth. Home to icons such as Paul Hogan and not too many others. First settled by the now-current Indigenous groups over 40,000 years ago, Australia was discovered by the Dutch in the 17th century but was claimed over a century later by Captain James Cook for Britain. The Australian National Anthem Instrumentals "Waltzing Matilda", a song many believe should be our National Anthem [img_thumb]http://www.topnews.in/files/Julia-Gillard_0.jpg[/img_thumb] Our current Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, of the Labor Party Australia's Political System is based off of the Westminister system, with a two-party system of Labor (which should be spelt "Labour" instead) and Liberal. Being a part of the British Commonwealth the Queen of England still has power over Australia, an example of her powers being used was when her Australian Representative John Kerr sacked the former-Prime Minister Gough Whitlam from government. In 1901 the numerous colonies of Australia (which are now states, such as New South Wales and Queensland) achieved federation, uniting us under one banner. The States in Australia compromise of New South Wales, Queensland, the Northern Territory, Western Australia, South Australia, Victoria, Tasmania and the Australian Captial Territory. Despite popular belief, Sydney (which is our largest city and in New South Wales) is NOT the Capital of Australia, Canberra in the ACT is our Capital. Australia has a small population of around 22 million, and although a majority of us are of British descent, there are lots of other ethnic groups in large numbers such as the Italians, Greeks, Vietnamese and many others, those are just a few examples. During the early 20th century the government introduced the "White Australia" policy, which meant only Anglos and Caucasians were allowed into Australia, others were turned down. This is one of numerous controversies in Australia's history, another being the Stolen Generations incident where many Indigenous children were taken from their families and fostered away during the mid-20th century. A fact to point out is that there are actually two major, or should I say two government recognised Indigenous groups in Australia, which are the Aborigines and the Torres Strait Islanders. Only in recent decades have the rights of these two groups been recognised. [img_thumb]http://www.recipesmaniac.com/i1_Lamington_s.jpg[/img_thumb] A lamington Australia is home to some cool food, such as meat pies, sausages and lamingtons. However meat pies and sausages were NOT invented in Australia. We still sell some stuff here which may or may not be sold overseas such as Coke Vanilla, but we miss out on some foods we once used to have a decade ago such as Dr Pepper and Pop Tarts, we now have to rely on lolly shops for local sale of said items. Being a former British colony, we speak with British or otherwise "True" English. This means we spell some words such as "Honor" as "Honour", "Mom" as "Mum" and in words such as "sensationalize" we spell them as "sensationalise" replacing the Zs with Ss. However we still spell the Australian Labor Party incorrectly, and "Labor" should be "Labour". We also drive on the left side of the road. Australia is not a good example of a country with freedom of speech. If Labor's proposed internet filter gets through, that's a big fuck you to our human rights. Adult gamers here are also worse off than in other countries, with games suitable for adults either being pushed down into the "MA15" rating or they are refused classification, or censored (such as L4D2) to become MA15. Also due to our high standards of living, games here cost usually $80 on release, which is at least $70USD. Also if you ever come to Australia from a place like the US, be relieved that you do NOT have to tip waiters and waitresses, and you'll get all your change back that should be yours. [img_thumb]http://aussiefavourites.com.au/cornershop/images/vegemite455.jpg[/img_thumb] If you've never had vegemite before and a mate says you should have a spoonful of it, do NOT do it if you want to choke and die ^ I prefer Promite though We get hot weather all year round, well actually we have two seasons in New South Wales: Summer and July. Of course stuff like beaches and pools are popular here because of the weather. Students in schools in New South Wales (so far I think) have to be a tleast 17 to leave school, and the minimum driving age is 16 (even then, you'll need to be driving with an instructor for a year). That's not a knife... ^ Oh yeah by the way, not all Australians are like that. The majority of Australians go to pubs to drink piss and watch the footy. Australia, the best place in the Southern Hemisphere, and only because I got bored. Fuck yea.
Lol. :D Lemington
Whats the point in quoting the op just to make a shitty post
What's the point of making an account just to make shitty posts?
Arts first year is good because you can transfer over. Loads of people who want to do psychology do arts first year with a major in psychology, do well and move up. That said I think I'm starting communications this year so arts isn't really a concern with me.
I'm doing science this year. My mum said to me before I was even old enough to decide to go to university, "Don't even bother with an arts degree. You may as well go to TAFE." Well I got accepted to do science so it's all good.
nice, what uni?
Deakin. Hoping it will be fun in a way.
Deakin. Hoping it will be fun in a way.
Miss Kiss went to Deakin. I lol'd when the police came to school when they thought she was trying to purchase equipment to make heroin, but it was actually to make paracetamol. Then, because of time constraints and the delay we had because of the cops we never got around to doing that prac anyway. I think we ended up making esters for shits and giggles instead. I couldn't fucking smell anything but banana for a week. [editline]18th January 2011[/editline] Great. The uni wants $4355 up front. But if I understood correctly they're gonna defer the money to HECS fees and give us our money back WHEN my citizenship status changes from permanent resident to... well, citizen. I gave dad call at work and told him the situation. I still can't get over how calm and collected my dad is in EVERY situation. NOTHING seems to phase him in the least. I sure as hell wouldn't be as calm as he is at learning I needed to fork out four grand for something on the spot.
Miss Kiss went to Deakin.
Does this make it a good place or a bad place? I know it wasn't her first preference or anything
i spoke to some danes that were studying in melbourne on exchange they're amazed people coming out of deakin and latrobe get jobs [editline]18th January 2011[/editline] i went to Monash, i don't have great things to say about that either
I wanted to go to Monash at first. The fucking Clayton campus is fucking badass.
I'm just happy to be going to a university and doing something I want to do. Otherwise it was veterinary nursing at Victoria University
Great. The uni wants $4355 up front. But if I understood correctly they're gonna defer the money to HECS fees and give us our money back WHEN my citizenship status changes from permanent resident to... well, citizen.
When's the due date on the fees? Personally I'd just hold off, as it's probably after you become a citizen
When's the due date on the fees? Personally I'd just hold off, as it's probably after you become a citizen
I'm wonder the same. Do I pay on the day I enrol? Or do I actually pay sometime DURING uni? If the latter, I'm good. I'll be a citizen before then. If the former, I'll NEED to pay to be enrolled, I guess.
Whats everyone's opinions on griffith and UQ?
I'm wonder the same. Do I pay on the day I enrol? Or do I actually pay sometime DURING uni?
enrollment date and fee due date are different. as long as you've been issued an invoice, you should be enrolled. but i'd go into the uni, get it in writing that you'll be getting your $4K back, and do what they ask. i wouldn't want to risk my position. for monash last year, enrolled there 26th (couple of days after VTAC did their thing), and fees weren't due till the 12th.
Whats everyone's opinions on griffith and UQ?
UQ is so underground (or at least underwater)
