Wow, watching the news and seeing full sized yachts tossed up ontop of other boats.
Serious shit.

I think it's cute how no one died but three babies were born :3:
Hurricane Yasi is giving other hurricanes a bad name.

Nah, Yasi was fine. Us Australians were just totally prepared.

Cyclone :eng101:
I'm gonna post something here I posted in fast threads because nobody responded:
So dad got home from work an hour or two ago and brought back a digital set top box for my TV (I still have a CRT, go figure).
So I hooked it up, turned it on, and let it autotune itself. Autotune finishes and it automatically switches to ABC. The picture comes up with pristine quality, sound works, it's awesome. This is the BEST reception that I've EVER had on ABC, weirdly enough.
Then I cycle through the channels and realise something odd: they're ALL ABC channels. There's a few channels that have TERRIBLE reception and next to no sound which, through the horrid picture I can make out to be channels 7, 9, 10, 11, GO!, etc.
I've set it to autotune a few more times and tried manually tuning it to no avail. We have several digital capable TVs in the house already and they all get perfect reception on every channel, so I dunno what's wrong here. The set top box is connected to the same central hub and amplifier in the attic that all of the TVs are connected to, so surely it should be receiving the same signals.
Anyone got any tips? Anybody experienced a similar problem? I've tried searching google but my internet is capped and I can barely open any of the fucking sites to get help.

Managed to get 10 digital, 11 and One all working (along side ABC channels) but now I'm getting absolutely NO reception for 7.
And there is no channel 9 on here.

Cyclone :eng101:
Same thing.
Depending on its location and strength, a tropical cyclone is referred to by names such as hurricane, typhoon, tropical storm, cyclonic storm, tropical depression, and simply cyclone.
:eng101:
I have a tendency to only use "Hurricane"
Cyclone as we are Australian. Cyclone Larry, Cyclone Anthony, Cyclone Yassi.
Northern hemisphere is Hurricane IIRC

Don't start the bullshit about regional dialects.
Because it's not even worth it.
I call it hurricane because I want to.
I hate it when people pronounce Melbourne "Melborn"
I hate it when people pronounce Melbourne "Melborn"
When I went to Metallica they all kept pronouncing it like that :v:
It's just the American accent, they say it how it's spelt.
melbun

There's an area pronounced gim-pee in Queensland that Americans call gym-pie. It's hilarious

Which is how all languages should be to be honest. English as it's spoken in Australia is stupidly misleading.
Who cares Eluveitie.
When I used to live in perth we were in an area called "CockBurn" which I called it cockburn till I was told it was pronounced Coburn.
I used to chuckle immaturely when I saw CockBurn in huge letters next to the shopping centre
You could pretty much make a Mel-bun out of melbourne.
Just add that leany yellow thing as a french fry, take flinders street away apart from the uni, take the freeway then you got a crunchy mel-bun.
Now I'm hungry.
It's so fucking hot. My skin is peeling like a bitch after going to Maroubra on Australian Day.
Any suggestions as to getting rid of the shedding skin? I'm using a cheese grater right now.
Alovera works wonders Jinko.
You shoulda put some on after you were burnt.
I got tanned as shit from being out in the sun just a bit. Good old Australia where out lack of O-zone means we get the full impact from the sun.
Expholiate with a glove or some lotion.

Actually Aloe Vera might be better

So has most Australians been at the Great Barrier Reef? It's probably the place I want to visit the most when I possibly visit next year. Is it recommended to take some sort of scuba diving lessons? I was supposed to when visiting Crete last year, but the classes were full, so I never got the chance. Or would snorkeling work fine, assuming I still get to see all the stuff underwater?
Great Barrier Reef is overrated. i gues you should probably see it before it dies though.
