I think you missed Restrepo for Afghanistan war documentaries [editline]3rd June 2011[/editline] Also Assembly has parts both in the Chinese Revolution 1949-1950 as well as in the Korean war.
Also Assembly has parts both in the Chinese Revolution 1949-1950 as well as in the Korean war.
Yeah I was wondering what was going on with that movie.
To Hell and Back needs to be on the WWII list. Audie Murphy is a badass.
To Hell and Back needs to be on the WWII list. Audie Murphy is a badass.
Hell, he even starred as himself.
Yeah I was wondering what was going on with that movie.
Its a true story. Gu Zidi had his whole company killed in the Battle of Wen River and he spent years trying to prove to the government that they died heroes.
Do genocide movies count? Hotel Rwanda is a pretty important film about the Rwandan genocide.
Do genocide movies count? Hotel Rwanda is a pretty important film about the Rwandan genocide.
Well yes I guess so seeing how its actually history.
The Sierra Leone Civil War is portrayed in Blood Diamond (2006)
The Sierra Leone Civil War is portrayed in Blood Diamond (2006)
Yeah, but its more of an action movie than a War Film.
Yeah, but its more of an action movie than a War Film.
That doesn't really make sense, it portrays a lot of the type of conflict and who was fighting, and many War films are action movies too. Maybe you could group it with Hotel Rwanda under "African Civil War Conflicts". And Bravo Two Zero (1999) is another one in the 1st Gulf war. But do not take it as a true story, Andy McNab apparently lied a lot.
gentlemen! you can't fight here, this is the war thread!
did anyone get the dr strangelove reference yet?
Just watch the Pacific again. The really only issue I would have with it is that it could of shown more of some campaigns during the war in the pacific like Iwo Jima. But other from that it did great in creating characters and showing life for them before and after the war. Plus the horrors and emotions they experienced during the war. Just some more episodes I guess were needed to explain and show the war and the pacific campaign. Also, its a bad idea going in to watch "The Pacific" expecting something just like band of brothers".
No Man's Land, a film set in the yugoslav wars
did anyone get the dr strangelove reference yet?
I think anyone who partakes in posting in this particular section got the reference.
What's that one WW1 movie where two sides befriended each other during Christmas Eve? Edit: Found it http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joyeux_No%C3%ABl
Really enjoyed that movie. I've added it to the OP.
This list really deserves to be stickied.
This list really deserves to be stickied.
I'd say it still needs some more movies first tho. Some many conflicts not added yet.
I just watched Hamburger Hill, Restrepo, and Letters from Iwo Jima with some vudu credit I got for free. Now I really want to watch a shitload of war movies.
I just watched Hamburger Hill, Restrepo, and Letters from Iwo Jima with some vudu credit I got for free. Now I really want to watch a shitload of war movies.
I'd say watch next Zulu, The lost battalion and Patton?
