I'll assume the explosion would release equivalent energy to the energy used to create the antimatter. So no.
...it was just a joke... geez...
I have some in my freezer
@CNiall Oh cheers, I see now. You explain it far more clearly that wiki does :P
All matter and antimatter interacted with each other during the first seconds of the Big Bang, I don't think any naturally occurring antimatter still exists (that had time to form into planets and solar systems, however it is possible to find naturally occurring antimatter, it just annihilates too fast to find any "lump" of the stuff.) However, that's my opinion, the matter-antimatter disparity is one of the great unanswered questions of physics.
OP
Didn't a bunch of terrorists try to blow up the Vatican with an anti-matter bomb? :v:
Where's Uncle Matter?
Didn't a bunch of terrorists try to blow up the Vatican with an anti-matter bomb? :v:
Only in the movie and the book. It would be interesting if it happened IRL.
Cool stuff.
i dont see why they would want to use anti matter as rocket fuel, it would be years until you run out of it and you still wont be close to any other solar system
i dont see why they would want to use anti matter as rocket fuel, it would be years until you run out of it and you still wont be close to any other solar system
The big advantage of it would be, that you'd only need a fraction of what you'd need to use with current rocket fuels. You could build a ship that's not only a fuel tank with a seat attached, as most are today.
oh that stuff thats in mah basement uhhh
So let me get this straight, a small amount of this stuff can produce an explosion many times larger than Hiroshima?
Yep, that's exactly it.
Yep, that's exactly it.
Well then, if that's the case then when we start producing anti-matter ene masse then we should treat weapons using it in the same light as nuclear weapons imo. Although i'll probably be dead by the time they start doing detonation tests. Edit: 1 kg = 20 Mt :gonk:
Well then, if that's the case then when we start producing anti-matter ene masse then we should treat weapons using it in the same light as nuclear weapons imo. Just don't even start building weapons like that.
Why should we EVER build antimatter weapons? They would be even more dangerous then nuclear weapons. Just don't even start building weapons like that.
well, at least there won't be fallout like in a nuke.
Why should we EVER build antimatter weapons? They would be even more dangerous then nuclear weapons. Just don't even start building weapons like that.
Tbh I agree with you, but that hasn't really stopped the US before in all honesty.
Why should we EVER build antimatter weapons? They would be even more dangerous then nuclear weapons. Just don't even start building weapons like that.
Well it would be an ideal form of intergalactic weaponry, securing superiority against alien races. This is of course considering we've came in contact with or colonized around another race in the universe, the conflict between who is to be the dominant race would no doubt be humans IF we could hurl molecule after molecule of anti at the baddies.
Tbh I agree with you, but that hasn't really stopped the US before in all honesty.
because the US is the only group of people on the planet who would want to build big guns to kill people with bigger guns, and has made a series of WMDs in the past 300 years
Tbh I agree with you, but that hasn't really stopped the US before in all honesty.
I know this won't stop people from creating a weapon out of it. And it's not really hard to create a weapon out of antimatter, the big problem is to get the amat in the first place. But we just never should do it. If nuclear power would have only be used as a power source from the start, it wouldn't have such a bad name to it. Hell there were even nuclear powered CARS planned back then (no kidding). Luckily it's really, really hard to get ones hand at amat :v: [editline]11:39PM[/editline]
Well it would be an ideal form of intergalactic weaponry, securing superiority against alien races.
because the US is the only group of people on the planet who would want to build big guns to kill people with bigger guns, and has made a series of WMDs in the past 300 years
point taken.
Well then, if that's the case then when we start producing anti-matter ene masse then we should treat weapons using it in the same light as nuclear weapons imo.
Because it's REALLY hard to produce, let alone contain. I'm sure they'll research into it once it's remotely feasible.
Why should we EVER build antimatter weapons? They would be even more dangerous then nuclear weapons. Just don't even start building weapons like that.
Not to mention the huge potential it has as an R-bomb. If you use the amat to accelerate something to VERY VERY high percentages of the speed of light, it will be undetectable and it will be the equivalent of a wandering moon crashing on Earth.
