We get these bastards in Taiwan up in the mountains. Annoying little buggers. Loud as fuck.
Cicadas aren't annoying at all. They're not even that loud to begin with, and once you've been living in an area with them for awhile you don't notice it just as you don't notice every individual bird chirp or car passing by.
Guess you didn't see the vid in the OP. I'd say that's pretty loud.
Guess you didn't see the vid in the OP. I'd say that's pretty loud.
Well that was probably under a huge colony. Normally only a few make noise.
I've been hearing them all day here in TN.
For the past 3 three weeks they have been running into my face so yes I've seen them.
They're also fun to play with. Look how adorable it is. :3:
Fuck that shit.
I've never seen more than one at a time
I know more than a few fishermen who swear by cicadas.
In Philippines, as children, we would take large cicada's and june bugs, and put toothpicks in-between their wings. They would become hella-infuriated and then they'd fight each other.
Thanks, now I'm watching Japanese bug fighting videos on YouTube...
Well except for the occasional adder or escaped panther.
And chavs
Thanks, now I'm watching Japanese bug fighting videos on YouTube...
Japanese bug fighting are awesome. But a trained/strong bug can cost thousands :frown:
sometimes those little conksucks blow in with southeasts version they eat EVERYTHING THAT SOMEHOW GROWS DOWN HERE
What is that?
I took a trip to Crete a few years ago. The island we were on was full of them. During the day it was all quiet, but at night all hell broke loose, and I felt like I could have stormed the nearest tree and killed every one of them by squeezing them between my fingers one by one and then chopping the tree down and burning the remains. They were kinda interesting in a way though. Never seen so large bugs in my life before. One almost drowned in the swimming pool and I just had to save it.
I like picking up cicadas to carry them around. Because they don't ever try to even get away from you, they'll just sit on your hand, and even your shoulder. Sometimes they'll even quietly sing while on your shoulder, it's kind of like an insect parrot.
Was a shitload of these in Crete. I enjoyed it, as I'd never heard them before. Made the setting more exotic :v:
:colbert: Saving Private Ryan.
Oh really? Exact same words are said on Homefront.
I touched one once, PSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS I shit myself.
I pretty much have these things all year 'round here, I live on the edge of a jungle. Noisy bastards.
They haven't hit New Orleans yet, but I can hear them coming...:ohdear:
That's the flood waters.
I pretty much have these things all year 'round here, I live on the edge of a jungle. Noisy bastards.
I want to live on the edge of a jungle :smith:
Wait where the hell is JohnathanLand? I know North America, but where in North America?
It's a city in Missouri that declared it's independence from the US back in '09
Hop to it.
I seem to remember them biting from when I went to Texas, but everyone here seems to think that they're friendly.
I used to collect their shells and bring them to school and stick them on people's backs. Shit was hilarious.
Where is JonathanLand OP? Google did not help. [editline]1st June 2011[/editline] Nevermind, should have read the thread fully.
These bugs own, what are talking about
I know, right? I haven't seen any cicadas in forever D:
It's non stop in texas. Especially when it hits 100+ heat, they're up in the trees and it is annoying as hell. Every year I hear them.
