Double edged knife kind of, but In Manitoba (Canada) Insurance is own and ran by the Goverment (Manitoba Public insurance). The bueaty of it is the rates are among the lowest in Canada (1200 a YEAR gets me a $3M Liabilty, 200$ deductable for @ fault repairs, FREE Wildlife Repair, Free Glass coverage, Free rental car while cars being fixed or up to 45 days, and New Car protection (pay me FULL price of my car if its written off in the first 2 years of ownership)) But sometimes they are total asshats and can't determine fault properly if they had too. But we also can not Sue or Be sued due for an accident involving a MPI Claim. Least it deals with any one pulling fruad BS, but sucks when some asshole with no licence totals your car, and the payout from the insurance doesn't cover what you owe on the car.
Got some pictures for you all: Got a problem though, i can't get my hubs to unlock...I am going to take them apart to see why they jam every time i engage them, but for now i just need to unlock them to get to school tomorrow...Any advice?
You wouldn`t be able to sue him anyways because YOU`RE the one who swerved into the oncoming lane and not the guy. In fact, he could sue YOU.
no not really. He rear ended me because he failed to stop in time. there is no legal way for him to sue me.
no not really. He rear ended me because he failed to stop in time. there is no legal way for him to sue me. [editline]9th December 2010[/editline] :buddy:
he failed to stop in time because you were driving illegally (swerving into oncoming traffic) [editline]9th December 2010[/editline]
woah, that's a little harsh, calling someone out like that? Are you not with me on the failed drifters list? Maybe I should say that you should gtfo the ro ad because you'll jack up my rates. Just because someones car got written off doesn't necessarily mean they are a bad or dangerous driver. Hell, drive a cheap enough car and a new bumper replacement could be more than 50% of the cars book value, hence totaled. And wouldn't that be saving you money? I mean he could have got like $10,000 out of the insurance company for the car but he decided he'd forget that to save $50 a month.
I`m on the failed drifters list because I oversteered on my friend`s truck on his private property. It makes it more expensive for everyone: He wrote his car off, which means that he should pay more insurance. Now he does not and he won`t learn as much of a lesson as he would if he did get charged more. Now he can drive unsafely and crash his car again, therefore costing more to more people. This is how you get unsafe drivers off the road. I completely agree on the fact that having it written off doesn`t mean the person is unsafe, it`s just not telling it to your insurance company seems very unfair to me. Just seems funny how he was complaining how his friends cheat the system by getting money for accidents which didn`t happen and he doesn`t tell the company he wrote his other car off, lol.
I dont understand how that would make me at fault. He also swerved into the oncoming lane behind me and failed to stop. he changed lanes after I did.
I dont understand how that would make me at fault. He also swerved into the oncoming lane behind me and failed to stop. he changed lanes after I did.
oh okay, but I still don`t think you could `sue him up the ass`
Well maybe not, BUT people were harmed due to his inability to stop. So the point is we could have sued him, but not wanting to be total douchebags like most Americas, we just left it at that. A simply sorry and have a nice night.

Just take them apart and clean them. First try backing the truck up a foot or so and then try and disengage them. If they don't, put it into neutral, roll forward again, and then try. Jack each front wheel up one at a time. Hold the front drive shaft and roll the wheel back and forth until they unlock for now.
K so I ran into a bunch of articles pertaining to getting like up to 2x your gas millage if you add 2-3 Ounces of PURE acetone to 10 Gallons of gas. Not that Im willing to try it, I'm just trying to crunch the numbers. Does this look right to you guys?
Baseline standard Cost and MPG For Chevy Impala ------------------------------------------------- 17MPG from 16.5 gallons 16.5 * 17 = 280.5 Miles per tank @ 3.74 Per Gallon 3.74 * 16.5 = $61.71 61.71 / 280.5 = 22 cents Per mile --------------------------------------------------- Now lets figure If i add 3 Ounces of acetone and it works, and i get a boosted 4mpg. --------------------------------------------------- 21MPG from 16.5 Gallons 16.5 * 21 = 346.5 --------------------- its 23.99 For a 1 gallon container of acetone. Thats 18.7 cents PER Ounce. the 3oz/10g ratio means I add 4.95 Ounces to get 4MPG boost from 16.5 Gallons. Thats 92.56 cents per Fillup. Tank of gas + cost of acetone: 61.71 + .9256 = 62.64 --------------------- 62.64 / 346.5 = 18 cents per Mile Including cost of acetone. ------------------------ Thats a savings of 4 cents per mile. 4$ per 100 miles. Thats 8.50$ a week for my driving habits.
You might be surprised. Old automotive stuff is bad at breaking. Hubs, however, usually aren't. That's why my '67 chevy has military hubs.
Goddammit. I can't get the Volvo registered until at least Monday because I need to get the title notarized by the seller's credit union. An hour and a half away in Albany. Fuck.

Just do this until you can get to them this weekend: a) Jack up front driver side only until the wheel is off the ground. Hold the front drive shaft and try and spin the wheel until you can get it unlocked. b) Drop that side down and repeat on the passenger side. It'll probably take you literally 20 minutes max. It's not necessary and will probably hold off but if it were my truck I wouldn't drive with them still locked. Which reminds me, I'm probably going to have to check mine before I go out when it snows.

I'm guessing all hubs are essentially built the same way, with the exception being build quality and materials? Any guides floating around to disassembling them? Never done work on hubs before.
This is all I could find for now. It's a Dana 44 rebuild which I don't think Chevy's used Danas but it would be very similar. http://www.pavementsucks.com/tech-article-14.html

laws regarding this whole suing orgy need to be modernized, it's abused way too much now [editline]10th December 2010[/editline] When I installed my headunit I had to dremel my faceplate and I scratched it up so I resprayed my center console flat black. [editline]9th December 2010[/editline] this is the reason why safe drivers pay a fuckton of money, those who are unsafe and have written off cars simply don`t say anything or try to cheat their way out so everyone gets fucked because of it
Not really, I damaged my own car when I lost traction rounding a bend on some leaves, could have been avoided but my own mistake down to inexperience being a new driver, lesson learned. Nobody else was involved, no property was damaged so I just had the car towed to a scrapyard, nothing was required to be claimed from the insurers so why involve them and increase my premiums when I had the means to buy a replacement car? That doesn't reflect on my driving ability now, this is probably over-used by the "confident" driver who overestimates their ability but I genuinley do consider myself to be an above average driver when it comes to hazard perception, safe driving techniques and making good progress on the roads while staying safe, probably aided by spending my first year on the road on a bike, learning to drive defensivley and spotting hazards a lot earlier. The fact that I've had a crash was down to me trying to impress an ex and being a new driver, not a smart move but you live and learn.
