What does the average driver's test consist of over there? I've heard some people on here saying they literally drove round the block, a couple of turns, parked up and that was it. That can't be the case though.
My test took about 10 minutes. We went around a few corners, parallel parked, did 3-point-turn, then went back.
My test took about 10 minutes. Some say the UK driving test is too easy and that involves at least 45 mins of driving, 3 manouvres (3 point turn, ermergency stop and reversing around a corner) as well as test on lane positioning, knowledge of the car and now they've included a section where you must navigate your own way to a destination without being prompted with direction. Still think tests should be harder as there are still some awful drivers slipping through the net.
Why do americans all drive automatics? An american once told me that it'd be too hard to learn in a manual, but that's bullshit as about 95% of people here do.
I would love to learn with a manual, but i would want to find a car with a manual tranny to drive, and the only person who could teach me drives a dodge neon srt4 and i dont think he would let me drive it after only having my permit for about a month.
I've never driven an auto in my life, i tried once but didn't know what the hell to do so gave up before even setting off.
I've never driven a manual, but that will probably change because my stepdad is buying a new car and is gonna teach me how to use manual :smug:
Autos are nice, but kindda rare here.
To be honest i'd probably choose an auto if i were to buy a hugeass limousine or something else you want to be really comfortable in. For anything else i think it just takes away most of the driving pleasure.
anyone have or know someone with a scion tc?
autos are good if you're constantly going and stopping.
I don't mind really.
I want an exhaust like this
Looks P good. I had a blitz nurspec but it was far too loud. Decent bit of kit though.
Well I dunno im from Canada and there are a lot of bad drivers around here and most of my friends say it's easy. I got 10 months before I can take the test for my class 5.
Just got my N here in British Columbia. It greatly depends on your examiner for the test but it is pretty strict for certain things and relax for others. School Zone Limit: 30km/h. You even TOUCH 35 and you are done the test. If the examiner at any time has to tell you to slow down, stop, or has to use the brake for you (If it has a passenger side brake I.E: A driving school car), you have automatically failed. Any dangerous maneuvers (Turning when not supposed to) will also fail you right there. You're allowed a certain amount of demerits for each section. I.E: Missing 3 shoulder checks, etc. It's not "hard" but something stupid can screw you over, like forgetting to look right when some guy speeds through the ICBC parking lot (Ironic).
My first test I failed because my instructor was in a pissy mood. And apparently didn't like my Pathfinder :D 3in lift and huge tires 4tw. Second time, I passed without a single issue. Drove about a mile around the block of the DMV, parked on a hill (Parking brake, turn wheels, etc.) and then came back, he asked me if I would ever have to parallel park and I was like "Uhh, no. I live out in the country" so he just told me to park and passed me with nearly 100%. And the instructor wasn't some stupid bitch lady, he was actually a pretty cool dude.

You'd have to be an idiot to push your luck with speed on your test, especially in a school district.
I passed my driving test with a 70%. The guy would have failed me but he said he "had a good feeling about me". :v:
I failed my first test and passed my second the first test I had some bitch instructor who would take off points for everything (i.e. not using turn signal when parking), but it was partly my fault too (I was nervous) the second time I knew exactly what to do and expect, and I passed easily [editline]15th December 2010[/editline] no parallel parking was required
are they good? my stepdad is considering the following cars: honda civic si hyundai genesis kia forte koupe scion tc volkswagen gti
yeah my friend has one and he likes it. i've never been in it before though so i don't really know anything about it.
Does the Rav in RAV4 mean anything? I've always thought it meant "Really Awesome Vehicle" since it's a bit of a chicks car.
Its name stands for "Recreational Active Vehicle with 4-wheel drive" or at least thats what Wikipedia says.

I've heard some people on here saying they literally drove round the block, a couple of turns, parked up and that was it. That can't be the case though.
No that actually is the case. Pathetic to say the least. It also depends on where you go to take your test. Different locations have different styles of testing.
I'd have thought if you even touched 31 then you'd fail. You'd have to be an idiot to push your luck with speed on your test, especially in a school district.
School zone is on a hill, I barely touched 34 but yeah, 35 is automatic fail. 31 isn't automatic fail as it's legally within the official limit (5 +/- is considered acceptable)

I drive manual, and I am American. Wouldn't have my car any other way. Not automatic, manumatic, tiptronic, or anything else. Just standard manual. Everyone in my family can drive a manual car as well, and all 3 of my friends that own cars have an automatic. I can't enjoy driving without it. As for the driving test in the US. Mine was 10 minutes of driving after a 15 minute written portion. A three point turn, stop light, stop sign, parking, up-hill and down-hill parking, among other things were a requirement. I did it in my Dads manual Passat, naturally. The first time I had to parallel park...God have mercy. Hit the car behind me, but I still think I did a good job for my first time.
In order to what I think is worth it. Genesis (1) GTI (2) Civic and Forte (3) TC (4)
why?
