Sooooo.. Anybody know of a site that offer diagrams on engines? Seeing as Google cant help me with the fuel screw location. And I really wanted to take it somewhere tomorrow.
what engine
5.2L 318 from a 1976 Dodge ramcharger
Would probably be easier to just look up how to adjust the carb, like look for a guide on edelbrock (if thats what your carb is)
Ok thanks.
[editline]17th November 2010[/editline]
Ah one of the first google hits. And they its on the same engine.

Here is a video put out by Holley for adjusting the idle speed;

Oh, well apparently its a different carb.
Oh, well apparently its a different carb.
All carbs are pretty much set up the same way, shouldn't be much different on your carb if it is at all.
Im pretty sure I found them. One of the screws directly controls the size of the valve opening at rest. But in turns out my battery died.

There are no screws in the front, or sides, that look like the ones in the guide.
[editline]17th November 2010[/editline]
The one he first adjust here is the one im talking about. But my battery is dead so It wont even start. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J8ikzcaMWg0&NR=1&feature=fvwp
just dont adjust idle when the engine is cold
AH shoot. Both screws on the front are completely gone.

It was warm. I ran it for a bit just a little bit ago.
Because I bought this old truck for under a grand. I MIGHT have to pay up to $300 to get it running perfectly. And lets say another $200 for fixing small amounts of rust and a full paint job. That brings me up to $1450. Show me where I can get a "newer" truck for that much? I also really like the look of old vehicles.
I myself, and many other people, (I dont know about you) really enjoy working on vehicles. With new vehicles all you can do is upgrade. Which cost money. Sometimes a lot. With old vehicles there is always something you can do to it for little to no money. I enjoy just going out to my truck and working on a problem as long as it takes to fix it. Thats one of my most favorite activities. The feeling of accomplishment you get from taking something broken and working on it until its fixed is awesome.
the $1450 is just the beginning, that truck is going to be a money pit but whatever floats your boat
and lol this is like the first time you`ve even touched a vehicle under the hood, talk to me when you are finished the ramcharger or are just fed up with it, whichever comes first

Haven't you shown several times you don't know what you're talking about?
Ramchargers are rare.
I buy old shit because I can make it run better than new shit by retromodding new shit onto my old shit. (Aka my 1967 chevy pickup with multipoint fuel injection.)
Old shit also looks better a lot of the time.
Yeah but you buy shit for a real purpose, crx for fuel efficiency, your nissan for offroading, civic wagon for vroom, etc.
I just don`t see a point in one of those old, big, beat up trucks

I dont see how you can say its going to be a mony pit when you know nothing about it.
And this isnt the first time I have messed with a vehicle under the hood. I have doing the basics my whole life. Sadly my father never taught me really in depth or about carbd engines.
Haven't you shown several times you don't know what you're talking about?
you`re probably confusing me with doc h.
i didn`t know that instead of a tmic that one soobie had a hood vent but that`s about it

I'm talking about previous threads.
And the point of old beat up trucks is that they are much more rugged and better offroad than newer ones.
Im assuming Ill be able to get the screws that go into the carb at my local auto part stores.

K I have probably said something wrong a maximum of like 2 times in all the threads I don`t really know what you`re talking about, what does me being wrong have to do with anything anyways
[editline]18th November 2010[/editline]
oh and `going offroad` is a pretty loosely used term, maybe just you and Apoc actually do it, everyone else just drives on some muddy trails and calls it offroading, which I can do in a family sedan

I do believe I was discrediting you on what you had said about the RamCharger being a money pit.

A rusted up 34 year old car that as of now barely runs/does not run at all? Chances are the rust isn't only in one place, good luck replacing the whole truck

Its not rusted up. rust is in 3 places. 2 of which are in the floor pans. The chassis itself is spotless. And it was running fine except for the fuel mixture. I do not understand your need to discredit someone else's vehicle.

My truck is 31 years old and runs perfect, and the only rust holes it has are in the bed at the seams.
He could fix it up real cheap and run it how it is, but if he wants it perfect, it will cost a bit.
I chose to go perfect with mine and ended up paying more than I needed to to do so.

I`m not discrediting your vehicle I don`t care what you spend your money on I just didn`t realise this became the `where is my idle screw` thread

I didnt know this was a 'we dont give help at all' thread.
Thanks to people who dont get pissy everytime I ask a question. I found out what was causing 2 of my problems. And now thanks to them, a simple run to the auto part store, and a battery charge should have my truck running great.
dont worry hes mad because you have a manly ramcharger and he's stuck driving his hairdressers mx3
not really but shut up vq this is the cars thread we discuss car things whether it be his idle screw or your ~mx3~

I said it will cost a bit if he wants it perfect.
He could patch the body, adjust the carb, and be out maybe $50.
Or, he could go all out and repair the rust 'professionally', repaint it, rebuild the engine, including new carb and dual exhaust, and all of the goodies to go with it and spend $5000.

I'll admit that it will cost a a little bit of money, but not as much as you think it will to get it to where I want it to be.
[editline]17th November 2010[/editline]
BUT Im pretty excited because those screws fix two problems that were worrying me. That is, if I can get them at autozone.

my hairdresser's car is still faster than his ramcharger :colbert:
For some reason I don`t understand your guys`fascination with shitty old rusty trucks with carbs.
If you want to `rock climb` get a jeep or something
If you want to haul/tow stuff, get a newer truck that will cost you the same as the old one after you put all the money into fixing the old one
Really, the main two reasons I've seen for getting trucks are those two and you can do both those things with newer, not rusted to shit, more fuel efficient trucks.
Someone explain?
Good luck getting a new jeep to go rock climbing. There's so much more stuff you have to do to your rig before you take it through obstacles like that.
And if Doc H. and Fordlord are like me, we like being outdoors, camping, and having a truck that can go where you want it to go.

but seriously, this IS all because you said like 20 dumb things and I'm holding a stupid grudge or something
whatever dude good luck with the truck hope you get it running
when you fix it post some pics but not from your cellphone lol
