What ones could you recommend for the car I posted above.
Superchips is a good brand; https://www.superchips.com/#pn=onlinestore&cs=catalog&vfid=258 A bit cheaper than I thought. I don't know a whole lot about chips for gas vehicles, but I do know Superchips is big in the diesel industry and make good chips.

I am not looking for drifting in a suv but a bit more power would be nice.
So I mean would it be a noticeable difference? I am not looking for drifting in a suv but a bit more power would be nice.
It says +20hp/tq add a better exhaust and intake, and you could add probably 30hp/tq
It says +20hp/tq add a better exhaust and intake, and you could add probably 30hp/tq
Hmm well it can already spin it tires on dry pavement so it should add some awesomeness. Also(please don't rage at me) would you get any improvement with one from ebay?
DON'T GET A CHEAP ONE Expect to pay $400 for one that will do anything. Some companies sell cheap ones, but they won't do anything good for your vehicle. I think it's aluminum, but I'm not 100% sure.
ok i dont understand the concept of truck chips In the import world we get custom tunes tailored to each individual engine seeing as how no two are made nor run the same, how could a universal patch somehow work for all trucks? I mean it would work but its far from a real tune, I'm sure a real tune would give you tons more power then a "chip" also yeah lean it out advance the timing and all that good stuff gets you more mpgs

You can pretty much dump all the fuel you want into a diesel engine and it will use it. That's why modified diesels smoke, the black smoke you see is unburnt fuel. Oh, and chips can usually be tuned on the dyno to make them work better for the specific truck. Diesels are easy to tune. Add bigger injectors? Crank the chip up some. Bigger turbo? Crank that chip up.

[editline]18th November 2010[/editline]
I have yet to see a chip on ebay that does anything, unless they are selling a namebrand chip.
Okay, no cheap route then.
Because trucks has so much torque it how you decide to use it, the extra power adds a lot of options.
that is completely irrelevant to anything i said sorry [editline]19th November 2010[/editline] its not even a chip its a eeprom reflasher or something [editline]19th November 2010[/editline] go open source [editline]19th November 2010[/editline] ok i actually looked at the site and it's essentially the same exact thing as my cobb accessport, sure you can use OTS maps that it comes preloaded with but can a dyno tuner place custom maps on it?

I didn't look at open source programming for it.
It says +20hp/tq add a better exhaust and intake, and you could add probably 30hp/tq
Different for gas/diesel trucks. A close friend of me and my cousins used a SC Cortex and gained 150 horses for the diesel. Lifted F-250 Ex. Cab. I'll grab a few pictures when I can because it's sweet. Bradford: Don't expect to see a boost in mileage if you want power. Some actually give you two tune "ranges." Economy or Power.

Good for engine longevity? Probably not.
What I meant is that why a universal chip can work is that a truck has many standard setups you can use because of the extra torque.
Torque has nothing to do with anything.

Economy or Power.
Yeah, the superchip for my dads 7.3 powerstroke has a 120hp/200tq(i think) tune on it. That's one great thing about diesels, so easy to get tons of power and torque.
A "real" tune does almost the same thing a programmer would.
Does just what you said, leans it out and more timing. Good for engine longevity? Probably not.
if you run good quality gas reliability will be exactly the same dont knock :v
I think Im going to buy a small 4cyl car after I save up for a bit. Anybody know of any good ones that dont cost a fortune? Im tired of doing my daily driving in V8.
Does just what you said, leans it out and more timing. Good for engine longevity? Probably not.
No, it isn't. Bradford, make sure you know what you're doing before you mess around with the more complicated options. Like the shift points for example.
A "real" tune does almost the same thing a programmer would.
"a real tune" is a custom tailored map that the programmer (chip) loads onto the ecu
Torque has nothing to do with anything.
Explain.
No, it isn't. Bradford, make sure you know what you're doing before you mess around with the more complicated options. Like the shift points for example.
I might check out how much it would be to get it professionally tuned.
ej22t
Explain.
torque is irrelevant to the conversation, im trying to explain that a custom tune will do far better then some patch but he keeps saying "my truck has alot of torque" or something
i dont even know whats going on anymore
I might check out how much it would be to get it professionally tuned.
Around 1,000 is what my cousin paid for his Saleen. Differs from place to place.
