On a basic level under all that marketing, pro sports is tough as fuck. I've learned playing MLB is way more complex than it should be, american football too. I can understand that such sports are certainly not as easy as they look on television, but they get millions for it, I mean there are certainly people who work their asses off for just a fraction of that.
but I guess there's nothing to do about that

the people that work their asses off aren't on tv.
The fans pay to see it. If all fans stopped watching the games the prices would go down. Basic law of supply and demand.

I do agree that it's not as easy as people make it out to be and usually their entire lifestyle is based around the sport they play between the traveling and staying physically fit. However, it still stands that people who save - or better - peoples lives make considerably less money than someone in the entertainment field.
Of course the answer is simple; Welcome to America (And probably most European countries). The place where athletic heroes are held in higher respect than a genius revolutionizing the world.
Because they take a huge risk. If you go to medical school surely you're gonna work your ass off, but your job placement is GUARANTEED. If you go into sports you always have to be the absolute best and you take a huge risk if you don't make it
An Football star
It just makes no sense. A doctor can save thousands of lives, but not get paid much, while a Football player plays for 1 year and makes millions of dollars. Just because he can kick a ball around a field.
So basically you lack the ability to play any sports so you justify your disinterest in them by declaring them intellectually "below" you?
What's it like being such a superior being?
I'm talking about the people who sit around on their fat asses on their couches WATCHING sports all the time, not the people who play them.
Try following the conversation.
Watching other people play games that have simple rules, and being able to root for "their" team gives slow-witted people pleasure and prevents them from having to contemplate the deeper meanings of life or develop skills or hobbies.
I contemplate the deeper meaning of life all the time, because I don't watch sports :downs:
[editline]10:36PM[/editline]
Who cares if they watch sports on their ass, You're browsing facepunch.. on your ass.
Sports are a multi billion dollar industry. They employ so many people, make and spend so much money. Players are paid because teams want to win. Winning=more fans=more money.
It goes more like this.
Pay player $12 million
win games
more fans
????
Jackpot
Because people are willing to spend a lot of money on sports.
I contemplate the deeper meaning of life all the time, because I don't watch sports :downs:
Yeah, 'cause I totally didn't mention hobbies and such as well, right?
Who cares if they watch sports on their ass, You're browsing facepunch.. on your ass.
No, I'm browsing Facepunch at work when I'm stuck in front of a computer.
And I'm standing right now, actually.
Cause we paid to see some gore and blood.
I don't agree with footballers (soccer for you backwards [del]cunts[/del]) getting paid stupid amounts of money to act like a bunch of pansies.
*flick*
OWWWW OWWW REF!!! REF!!! I'M BLEADING TO DEATH, MY LEG IS BROKE AND I'M GOING INTO HYPOTHERMIA OH GOD NO I SEE A LIGHT! TAKE ME OFF ON A STRETCHER SO I CAN COME BACK IN 5 MATCHES WHEN I'VE PUT ON ABOUT 5 STONE!
An Football star can make like 1mil a year or something, and a pathologist or a doctor have to work their asses off to get into medical school and pass and than spend more years on a medical branch they wanna master.(Excluding Pathologist.)
If the USA were gonna invest in sports don't ya think they would invest on their soccer team or something? To improve the US world rep.
Because I would rather watch somebody throw a ball than cut someone open...
On second thought... They should make surgery a professional sport.
Professional athletes are the top of their class. They perform better than anybody else at what they do.
We have a decent soccer team, but we just don't care enough about it. Football is better.

When a doctor does a surgery on someone, it's just for that one person and maybe their immediate family.
When a sports star plays a game, it's for millions of fans.
You can get a hell of a lot more money out of millions of people than you can out of one family.
The doctor deserves more money, but that just isn't how free-market capitalism works.

That would be an amazing sport.
I agree Anal rapist.
Sports teams are privately owned in the US. I don't see how we control their pay check besides giving the sport the entertainment value by watching it.
well that money has to last, some sports players only play for about 5-10 years, after that they either get money from endorsements or live off the money they made.
That would be an amazing sport.

Doctors get paid a shitload wtf are you on
In comparison.
The 'culture' around sports is fucking stupid, to where people are willing to murder each other over team rivalries and kids are giving two shits about education because of hurrdurr football.
In comparison.
I understand, but in the USA at least, doctors can make around 1 million dollars a year if they're good.
Doctors get paid a shitload wtf are you on
You gotta factor in a lot of things. Like a neuro surgeon has no free life, but he makes about 700 grand a year and he saves lives of people.
understand, but in America at least, doctors can make around 1 million dollars a year if they're good.
I agree but their is a trade off. Unless you own a clinic or something...
I understand, but in the USA at least, doctors can make around 1 million dollars a year if they're good.
Not once you factor in the costs of having a private practice, the insanely high cost of insurance for medical professionals, and other stuff like that.
Doctors make a lot of money compared to "regular" people, but most of them are not millionaires.
But then there are a lot of sports players who are stuck in the minor leagues making crap money, so that has to be taken into account too.
An Football star can make like 1mil a year or something, and a pathologist or a doctor have to work their asses off to get into medical school and pass and than spend more years on a medical branch they wanna master.(Excluding Pathologist.)

Because so much money is made off of them with the cost of tickets, merchandise, etc. I agree, they dont deserve that much, but they make a ton more for the NFL and other places because of them playing. We need to make all the stuff that's sold because of them cheaper.
haha
Do you know how hard you have to work to go pro? You have to practice EVERY DAY for hours and hours. Do you know how mentally and physically strong you have to be to succeeded at most sports? Exactly so stop being an arrogant prick.
Most human animals are painfully stupid and needs something to occupy their time that doesn't require much thought.

About the their team part:
Most of the fat older people watching games that are of their team, grew up to that. I mean I've grown up in a house with parties for games if I couldn't go to them, tailgating when I could. I've known the fight song since as long as I can remember. It's a part of life. Especially in smaller towns.
I'm more angry about people getting financial aid for college sports while there's barely anything for actual academic merit.
