So, do you open your eyes once you're paralyzed or is it just like dreaming but really vividly?
Also if you're getting into lucid dreaming here are some things to remember.
1. Make a familiar scenery that you see everyday, such as your house or a class room.
2. To start lucid dreaming try some things like switching a light switch, the light will stay on and nothing will change no matter how many times you switch it.
3. Remember it's a dream. Don't just imagine yourself flying or having laser vision out of no where. You have to visualize something that would enable it. Such as a super man cape or a rocket pack or a pill that gives you laser vision.

You can open your eyes but closing them won't save you, ever had a dream wear you close your eyes but can still see? Bam, that's like SP.
Ummm, I have a final speech for Oral Communications tomorrow that makes up 20% of my grade. Should I try this Y or N?

No, you feel tired after doing this. Try it on the weekends.
Oh my god yes. I'm trying this.
Also, I think I remember accidentally doing this by accident when I was about 8 or 9 and saw hot wheels racing on my wall.
I woke up in kind of a panic attack with fast breath and a racing heart beat.
I don't remember much about it.
I can't imagine what's gonna happen when I try it.
I wrote a college paper related to this general topic and most times self-induced hypnagogia can be either frightening or exhilarating depending on how you look at it. The freakiest part for me was noticing that I had lost control over my breathing. When you're asleep, breathing (something usually quasi-conscious i.e. you don't have to think about doing it but when you do think "breath in, breath out" you can control it) operates on a subconscious level, so when I tried to think "breath in, breath out" and nothing happened I really felt like I was going to die.
You really are not in any real danger though, I mean, your body is perfectly capable of determining necessary breathing rates when you're asleep on its own. That's just something you're usually not thinking about.
I've had this happen involuntarily before.
It actually was the scariest thing i have ever experienced. I heard my door open and heard footsteps, so i opened my eyes and went to sit up to look but i couldn't move. i felt my bed shift as if something was getting on it from the foot of my bed and i was freaking out and i couldn't do shit all. i saw a shadowy figure loom over top of me, and being unable to move or scream or do anything but just stare, bricks were shat. then i was suddenly able to move again and it disappeared and my door was closed.
Do I have to keep my eyes open while laying down, or closed?
EDIT:
Never mind, I do have to close my eyes.
I had a lucid dream in which I was fucking my ex...long story short I got overexcited and woke up to the wonderful smell of asparagus...
I have been in SP twice. The first time, I didn't know what was going on, there was rising panic, but it ended, so I did not question it. Later on, I saw some Discovery Channel problem talking about it and figured out what happened. Strangely enough, it happened again after a considerably large amount of time, but I was able to rationalize what was happening.
I tried this yesterday. First time I think I was nearing hypnagogia or already having it. It felt like my whole body was shaking like there was an earthquake happening or something. My heartrate was around 180 at that time so I decided to stop there.
I tried it again but it didn't seem to work so I went to sleep normally.
Tried it last, I heard a loud buzzing and felt my body go numb but then i got to excited and it stopped
This...???? :( Was i close?
I've experienced this a couple times. The most common form for me seems to be having my head tilted in a weird direction while lying down and being unable to move it. Which is freaky and annoying because it just feels so wrong.
I tried it last night. No luck. I just fell asleep. :smith:
Ok. When you say you induced it yourself...that is self hypnosis. Sleep Paralysis is completely different than self hypnosis. Sleep paralysis is when your mind wakes up but your body is still sleeping. Part of your brain isn't awake yet yet you are fully conscious. Self Hypnosis is where you lay calm for a while without touching itches or fidgetting for a while. You eventually go into a very calm state where your body resists the urge to move. You have put yourself under a state of hypnosis not sleep paralysis.
and it says it right there in your article..."Hypnogagia is LIKE sleep Paralysis" it is not AKA sleep Paralysis. Hence the HYPNO at the beginning of the word. Hypno and paralysis are two different things.
Fuck yes it worked! I dreamt I was in my old house trying to take a shit, when suddenly a random girl from across the street came in the house, I said 'Hi' and then thought about sex when the dream ended.
:smug:
Shit's AWESOME! I used to do this all the time during the summer when I had time to spare. It's my favorite way to enter lucid dreaming.

It's funny how God "saves you in your dreams". But if you got cancer, were dieing, and prayed, he wouldn't give a shit. Just a small point. Religion discussion over.
Am I able to swallow while attempting this or would that be counted as moving? Sometimes when I'm lying on my back, trying to relax, the saliva makes its way to the back of my throat where I'm forced to swallow.
Oh and by the way, I tried this last night, got close the first time, heard a buzzing noise, then it went away. Tried a second time and started seeing tiny flashes of light and my heart rate increased a fair bit.
Does anyone have any more tips to what I could do to make it more effective?
Sounds like some of you guys are talking about astral projection. (Or Out-of-body experience.)

Is this like some form of getting high without drugs?
Also, scariness.

Pretty much, it's hallucinogenic, or as far as most people say. I haven't experienced it yet, am waiting for the awesomeness.

I'm pretty sure you can swallow. It's something you usually do in your sleep anyway.
One morning when I was just about to wake up I had this. I constantly heard that "The Grudge sound" (Basicly the simplest sound vocal cords can do) and I felt fully concious but I couldn't move a muscle nor make a sound. I felt like I was being watched.
Then suddenly I just open my eyes to see my worried dad trying to wake me up thinking I was choking.
I had been doing that sound for like 10 minutes and my pillow was all drooled over.
tried this for 2 fucking hours. didnt fucking work.
can I have a fan on when I try to lucid dream?
shit gets hot
i read this lastnight and i got too scared to sleep :v:
I had it happen to me once, saw my door open and some dude walk in with a 7 inch blade.
Needless to say 2 minutes later i woke up from my bed to be soaked in piss.
I don't know why, but it seems to not working. Why!? How long have i to lay around? And can i swallow my spit?
I'll be giving this a shot tonight :)
Any tips?
