Easy mistake, when you finished your project in paint, you forgot to bring the available space back to the least required amount. So you saved the picture with an extra inch or two of blank white space, which led to the overall quality reduced and picture resized. To avoid this, when you're done, make sure to drag the bottom right corner anchor up and to the left so cut out the white space, but don't cut any of your picture out.
