Pretty much any < $300 dedicated sniper platform isn't going to necessarily out-perform an AEG out of the box. You'd have to spend another hundred or so on upgrades for it, to make it worth the slow-ass refire rate of the spring rifles.

The VSR-10 is bolt action.

VSR is bolt action, yes.
A sniper rifle out of the box is not a sniper rifle. You'll still need to upgrade the barrel and hop up and probably downgrade the spring.
Woops. But yeah no the VSR-10 is not any better than the MK96. The MK96 is actually better.
:raise:
You know that's true.
How about this. Don't go as a sniper at all.
Here's what'll happen:
You'll sit in one position for minutes, or be all the way back at the field due to field FPS limitations. You'll get hit, go out, and probably bitch how it was BS that he hit you, blah, blah, blah. Next round, you'll line up a target for the Pink Mist shot, and the wind will take you bullet away, and once more, you'll bitch. "This is BS, my gun is a sniper. It's supposed to be accurate. The sky is blue." Yes, all fine and dandy.
My point being is that you'll get bored. Realize you hate airsoft because of a poor decision you made, and you'll quit. Or, you'll realize that you should've gone with a different weapon.
Sniping isn't really fun in airsoft. I only had fun as a fill-in sniper because I had an SR-25 with a full auto function. But it was less fun because I was behind everyone else, and not in the action.
If you wanna be a sniper, might as well bring a bottle of Jergens and some tissue, because it's really going to be a lonely ride out on the field.
You know that's true.
Uhm no. The Tokyo Marui VSR-10 is not better than the UTG L96. As for a cheaper solution, the JG Bar-10 is afaik the same exact thing as the TM VSR-10, so I'm pretty sure the JG Bar-10 is cheaper too.
[editline]05:23PM[/editline]
Too bad it's almost impossible to find anywhere.
Exactly! the VSR-10 isn't better.
Wait did you just say the JG VSR-10 is better than the TM VSR-10?
Saying UTG is better than Tokyo Marui, is like slapping a newborn baby across the face because it came out covered in placenta.

Pretty much this. One of my friends has an L96 and an upgraded G&G M16 and the M16 is a better sniper rifle.
Exactly! the VSR-10 isn't better.
Explain how. Please.
Exactly! the VSR-10 isn't better.
What? No, that's the opposite of what I just posted. Just because it costs less money doesn't mean it's of less quality. The JG Bar-10 was the go to bolt action gun back before it went out of stock and never went back in stock.
Let me state my opinion seeing as I have either owned or fired all 3 guns in question
1. JG BAR 10
Best bolt action rifle on the market. Easy bolt pull, very accurate out of the box (H or V hop-up, forgot which) and has limitless upgrade potential. Lightweight too. Owned one for a year and loved it, but I moved on to an SR25. Definitely teaches you be a sneaky bastard or you die.
2. JG MK96
Heavier rifle than the BAR 10, lacks the same level of accuracy (standard hop-up) as the BAR 10. Bolt pull is harder due to the stiffer spring, but it does shoot faster. But shooting faster doesn't mean shit if you can't hit your target on the first shot. Does have aftermarket parts, but not as many as the VSR/BAR series.
3. A&K SVD
Not super heavy, but does have some weight. Pulling the charging handle is A ROYAL BITCH! I say about 1 in every 3 shots I couldn't fully pull it back at AEX, causing a double feed because of it. You have to pull all of that tension back with nothing but your index finger, it will tire you out fast. After firing about 20 shots I had decided this would be a very poor skirmish rifle, heck even for plinking you would get tired fast. Probably the reason why AEX is having that promotion, they can't sell them because they're so hard to use.
What about the Tokyo Marui Bar 10? And Mbbird you said the Tokyo Marui VSR-10 isn't better than the MK96.
I said it wasn't better than the JG Bar-10, not Mk96.
JG Bar 10 = TM VSR-10
The JG Bar-10 is a clone of the VSR-10, but there's no reason to go with the more expensive VSR-10 because you get nothing extra, afaik.
If the Tokyo Marui is the same as the JG one then why is one more expensive than the other. And if they're the same, and you said the Tokyo Marui one is NOT better than the MK96, then how is the JG one better?
Because it's Tokyo Marui. Everything is pricey from them.
Also, he was comparing the VSR-10. Not the MK96. For the fortieth time we are discussing this.
Where the fuck you getting all this. Now forget everything else you heard from me about the VSR-10/Bar-10/Mk96/L96, and listen to this. The Bar-10 is better than the Mk96. The VSR-10 is better than the Mk96.
So PRICEWISE it's not better? or performance? And yeah okay but before you said something way different but whatever.
All fucking around the Bar-10 is better than the L96. It's not like either of them are in stock anywhere anyway.
My head is about to explode, this is confusing me.

Let's compare it like this.
Tokyo Marui is a Nissan GT-R. An $84,000 racing machine.
UTG is a Mini Cooper. A $13,000 toy box.
Which one is better?

You'd buy a Mini Cooper? Wow, you should be a sniper then.
Wtf where did that come from. And I already have a nice M4 now I'm just looking for a cheap but good sniper to use for fun. (I already have a Lamborghini and now I want a cheap, cool car to ride for fun)
