Well, here's what I did. I called the guy again and told him I'm going to sue him. He told me that he is hiring me again. (After a long conversation, don't get me wrong, I'm oversimplifying) I called again 15 seconds later and told him I quit and that he should be ashamed of his stupidity. I then called the competitive store, down the street, which was my other option when I was searching for work and asked them if they have any open spots after explaining my situation. And... I got hired on the same position as before, but in a different store. Sure, the pay is a bit smaller, but I can live with that. It was totally worth it.
I don't care if this is 14 hours late but, good on you. Don't put up with shit like that. Good job.
I don't care if this is 14 hours late but, good on you. Don't put up with shit like that. Good job.
Agree'd. Well said, good sir. A star for you, and the OP.
Its not easy to find a job these days, but I think you should take this as motivation when you get better to find a new job with a boss who isn't an ass. The only thing is when you go to get a reference, your boss could fuck you around again, be careful and good luck finding another job!
Upon further reading, well done as others said.

goddamn capitalists
That's illegal, as far as I know.
Hey kid, when did the Nazis did something like this?

I had a douche of a boss when I got my recent job. He eventually left to work on some oil rig though.
Ah. Where do I begin. Well, today I woke up with a really bad fever - 38.8 degrees. I don't have to tell you that this isn't good. I called my doctor and asked her what should I do (her shift in our local medical facility starts at 1 PM). She told me to stay home for a few days and told me to buy an antibiotic. (Augmentin, if I'm not mistaken) So, I went to the pharmacy that's near my house and bought the antibiotic and some Nurofen for the fever.
Now, I work as a repairman in an electronics store and handling electronics and fragile equipment isn't easy with a fever. So, I called my boss, explained the situation and told him I won't be able to go to work for a few days. He just said: "Great, you're fired. I can't stand it when a worker of mine calls in sick. You should've come and said it in person". What. The. Fuck. He wanted me to drive 5 miles in rush hour with a fever just to tell him I'm sick? I kindly explained to him that I can't really drive with my head spinning around from the fever. He told me that I'm still fired and "I hope you start respecting my opinion". What?
What do you think, FP? Am I wrong or is he? I personally think he fired me for a bullshit reason, but I might be wrong.
Show up to work when you feel better, don't get pushed around by a prick like that.
My boss is a major asshole too, i don't even want to get in to it because I could create a megathread about all the shit he does that goes against company policy.
I don't know about other countries, but in America, employers can fire anyone without an explanation or reason. Unless you are in a contract or governing position, jobs are at-will employments.
"any hiring is presumed to be "at will"; that is, the employer is free to discharge individuals "for good cause, or bad cause, or no cause at all," and the employee is equally free to quit, strike, or otherwise cease work."
Only if you feel the firing was discriminatory or a retaliation, can you take it up in court.
Work through the fever you loser.
Not to be offensive but both me and my girlfriend got pretty bad cases of the flu last month and be both went to work and in my case my boss sent me home because i was simply too sick.
You should always go in and see if you can work. Not just call in lazy sick.
Or you should call in and not risk potentially getting other employees sick, since you're legally entitled to sick days.
Kill his kids, feed his dog meat with glass on it, rape his wife, slit her throat, kill his parents, shit on his doorstep, tie him down, and have a hooker with about 12 STDs rape him
Isn't that illegal somehow?
An employer can fire you for any reason he or she wants unfortunately.
Should have quite by ringing in and saying:
"What's the difference between work and your daughter?..
..I'm not coming into work today."
Boom.
An employer can fire you for any reason he or she wants unfortunately.
Within reason. Being fired for not coming to work is one thing, being fired because you didn't show up in person to tell your boss that you have a fever and feel sick and are unable to do the duties that your job required is NOT a good reason to be fired.
Bosses suck. My boss is a pissed off Vietnam veteran who is dying of cancer, so his final goal in life before he dies is to wake up every morning and make everyone around him angry.
Everyone has a prick boss at some point in their lives. I was working nightshift a couple years ago and during exam time I was swamped with schoolwork and studying. I called in a day ahead to tell him I wasn't going to be able to go in because I needed time to study (not going to be conscious enough during the day to study if I'm up all night) and the guy blew up at me on the phone and started bitching about how shorthanded they were and that I'm being an ass and whatnot. I told him right there he can find a new fucking employee and that I'm never walking into that store ever again, when my last cheque is ready mail it to me. Haven't walked into that store since, I wasn't paid enough to get yelled at by a 50 year old hack who is stocking shelves because he never finished highschool.
report this to HR or however that shit works
You don't need to be in an union to have rights. To be ill can simply not be a valid reason to get fired. Corporations do have a responsibility towards their employees. AFAIK an employee can not "just" be fired unless they have committed a crime. Besides if someone is genuinely ill and the doctor has given advice (whether or not it is on paper) not to work the employer is obliged to respect that.
The reason of getting fired is in no way valid.
I like the way Florida does it. You can be fired at any moment for any or no reason at all. Sounds cruel, but that's just the way it should be. As a business owner, I should be able to choose who and who doesn't work for me.
And no, I'm not a business owner or extremely wealthy person. I'm a mere delivery boy in a low income family. Yeah, I'm not gonna weep and demand that the world owes me a job or success, that is all up to me.
suck it up and do your job pussy. a fever isn't anything
Shit on his desk... then make him some tea.
I've had dickhead bosses before and I've hated the fuck out of them.
I've found that knowing the rules, loopholes and subtle wordings of your work contract and then using them to your advantage in a way that only seems unobvious to anyone who doesn't know what they're seeing is the most satisfying method of revenge, that way if you're fired it makes the boss look like a wanker and, no matter how far you've bent the rules, you look like the hero.
The more you know, the more you can get away with.
My last boss was a cocaine addict. He was happy to the point where it was just fucking annoying.
When you are better, every day think of different ways to tell him "FUCK YOU!"
One day, run up to him and yell it, another, send him a fruit basket that says fuck you on the card, key fuck you onto his car, pour bleach on his yard so it kills the grass in a fuck you.
fuck him with your prick

So stupid and immature, yet so funny. Why?
Anyways, I think you should sue your boss.
OP is really a winner.
I love how most people aren't even reading the first page and keep suggesting to the OP what to do even though he's clearly made a decision.
But yeah he was acting like a prick, egg his house.
This.
This is wrongful dismissal. Most labor laws in any country prohibit such acts. Call your local Labor board about this issue. Your boss is an inconsiderate prick.
To anyone who thinks that their employer can fire them for any given reason, you probably deserve it if you keep thinking that. Know your rights!
Some states don't have any rules when it comes to firing.
