If they are going to be dicks about it, then they really aren't your friends, are they? They are just people who tolerate you and you go back to them because dealing with these guys is your comfort zone. Don't trick yourself into thinking they are your friends.

Most people are know aren't really all that bothered about gay people, they just don't like the flamboyant supergay dude who never shuts up about it (and honestly I don't think that a lot of people like those dudes, it's as annoying as any other attention whore in my opinion).

I never liked this line of thinking because it goes by an us vs. them mentality, that "annoying" or "super-gay" people are a legitimate category of gay people. This dichotomy exists nowhere in real life in my experience, it's just extrapolated from what pop culture tells us. There's annoying people, and sometimes those annoying people might be gay, but there is not a group of super gay and annoying gay people that anyone needs to distance themselves from.

Which is why I said it's as annoying as any attention whore, because ultimately that's what they are. It's just that flaming homo attention whores are more easily noticeable because there isn't all that much of them around, and, well, they are quite loud about it compared to others.

See, I'm pretty sure that 1) being easily noticeable and 2) being quite loud were traits that are applicable to all attention whores, not just the gay ones you distance yourself from because it's somehow mature or superior to be straight acting.

Eh, the flamboyant supergays have usually hard a harder life because they're so much more visible. A lot of them are really good fun; most of the time it tends to come down to gay guys going "Well I'm not like a [i]gay[/i] gay, I'm just a regular person, see, straight friends?".
Put it this way, you'll generally have a much better night out with a group of flamers rather than a group of gay guys with chips on their shoulders about not appearing "too gay".
