Yeah but you'd think being part of a widely prejudiced minority would somehow teach you a lesson of humility.
everyone's different. personally I would consider being gay as something that shouldn't decide my personality
But prejudice is not personality. It's prejudice. My cousin being misogynistic is just him being prejudiced. He is persuaded women can't hold a house (he owns an apartment and refuses to rent it to women) and that they are all treacherous bitches. That's not his personality, that's just him not knowing shit about something and talking crap about it. [editline]26th June 2012[/editline] I know that he would STILL be a jerk regardless of his homosexuality but what bothers me is the whole prejudice part. [editline]26th June 2012[/editline] But hey there's nothing I can do about it so I just tend to ignore him whenever he's around.
I think campy gay guys are annoying in the sense that I just don't find it an attractive personality trait. I figure I'm gay because I like men/male, and the more fem/campy a guy is in their personality the farther they are away to what interests/attracts me personally. On that note, you could say I'm a very "straight" gay guy as well, in that most people wouldn't guess I'm gay (because I'm less attracted to really campy/fem guys and like more standard/average guys personality wise). I don't really care or follow gay culture, and I think that just goes part with the territory of being a person who doesn't like being in the spotlight and also enjoys being social with a select group of good people (versus partying it up in the city or something). But I wouldn't say I'm totally adverse to them. I can be friends with a campy gay guy. It's just not a trait that I personally find appealing or a trait I can relate to, so I don't often seek being around people like that (other than the fact that there really aren't a lot of people like that around here anyways). My favorite "gay guy" is someone who's not campy at all but still has obvious "softer" sides to them that they aren't afraid to embrace. I.E. loving animals/things that are adorable/etc. Or having a lil' bit of pink shine through in what they wear but not really being a dominant part of their wardrobe/personality type. Something to add contrast and "depth" to the otherwise content and non-camp male self that they are like :)
Oh yeah, no totally they're not everyone's cup of tea. I meant more the people who frequently stress they dislike camp guys and loudly complain about them being at gaybars etc.
does anyone else here have celeb. crushes? or am i alone with that
You find famous people attractive? That's so weird. I don't know anyone with a celebrity crush.
god damn it you guys i don't think i should take this seriously anymore. i feel like i can just break down any second. i can't even bother to use sentence-case. so there's this guy i know and we've been (and are) working on this game (that's also his tumblr) together. i've kind of slowly grown to like this guy and so i ended up telling him that i had a crush on him. things worked out - fast forward a bit, we're in a relationship and all. the thing was i didn't know that he was only guessing my age. i knew his, but i thought he knew mine. a few days ago, in a group chat he and i were in, everyone was discussing drinking. one of the people asked me why i don't drink and i say, "i'm kind of 16." so then my boyfriend at the time comes out and asks, "really?" and we end up kind of getting into a discussion there. he's 20, note you. just yesterday, i asked him if he was comfortable with me, and, well, he wasn't, and he broke up with me because of a four-year age difference. i personally don't mind the gap, as it could've been a lot worse, but i guess his views differed on it. should i do anything about this? i mean, i really do love him and everything, so...
What do you mean do anything? You're unlikely to sway his opinion. A four year age gap isn't a big deal if you're 40 and he's 44 but there's usually a massive gulf between 16 and 20. Even 16 and 18 is quite different. You're still at school and he's an adult; there's a weird dynamic there. I'm going to have to ask you, when you say you've been in a relationship with him does that mean an internet relationship or a real relationship? I.E. have you met him irl? That changes this. I don't know you personally but I feel I ought to point out that you can seem very mature on the internet but be less mature in real life and most 16 year olds behave visibly different to 20 year olds. Look at it from his perspective as well; he's going to have friends who are working or at University, perhaps with their own houses to live in and maybe even getting married. Some of your friends are 15. A 20 year old hanging out with a bunch of 15 and 16 year olds is going to seem like a weird creep. From his perspective, he can't really have a relationship with you even though he may well still want to, but you're probably not going to be able to change his decision and freaking him out by trying to change his decision is likely to cement his idea of a clingy 16 year old still further.
But prejudice is not personality. It's prejudice. My cousin being misogynistic is just him being prejudiced. [editline]26th June 2012[/editline] But hey there's nothing I can do about it so I just tend to ignore him whenever he's around.
Prejudice is part of someone's personality. It changes how they interact with people, how they respond emotionally to things and how people perceive them. One of my friends thinks the British Empire was a good idea. You can argue that this isn't part of his personality, but it goes hand in hand with other things (being a bit racist, holding stupid views, responding negatively to Chinese people etc). If you suggest prejudice isn't part of someone's personality then it's hard to pin down what is part of someone's personality.
I consider prejudice as that little part of personality that can change over time. You can be prejudiced about some people then suddenly stop being such for a reason or another and you can just not care about some minority then after some event be prejudiced against them. In my opinion it's important to separate personality and prejudice because prejudice is much more of a varying thing than personality, if that makes sense. Then it's just a matter of words usage and such, I do agree with you when it comes to how prejudice is part of a personality.
I should find out if I got that job or not in the next couple of days~
