I went to a ~competitive~ LAN once, it was actually pretty cool, I was amazed at how well everyone got along with each other considering players would talk so much shit about each other. I didn't win anything major, we all got free red bulls from this chick who drove up in a van as like a sponsorship thing or something
But safe to say I smashed everyone at Mario Kart 64 :cool:

Clearly a PC isn't a good fit for you because the only purpose you see in one is to waste time away from other things you'd rather do. It doesn't mean a PC is inhernently a time waster, though. Depends on how much it would fit into what you enjoy doing for yourself and what kinds of things you enjoy doing with others.
As a person who enjoys playing and modding video games on my own time as a hobby and entertainment, the PC is very clearly the best choice for someone like me. It's the cheapest (sure you spend up to $800 on high end stuff, but you don't pay for online, you have MUCH more control and Steam sales and the price of PC games totally nuke any cost benefits a console would have, etc), I use my PC for much more than just playing games (getting work done, modding, video editing, design, converting movies/shows to be used on my mobile devices etc), my best social gaming experiences involve hooking things up as a LAN with other friends/my BF who also have a PC (consoles have always provided a more shallow, albiet easier to set up social game experience for me), the game library is richer and offers you more, etc.
So yeah, PC for me :) I save money in the long run, as a core gamer it gets me all the game experiences I'd like to have as my primary form of digital entertainment (as in, I prefer to invest in games over paying for TV and watching lots of movies, as it is a much more dynamic and interesting medium to me. It's also where a lot of exciting growth is going on as an art form if you look beyond just CoD blockbusters), etc.
I do like my BF's consoles he has though because split screen/co-op gameplay is really easy to do on that for some games on it, and it's plenty fun. Such as, peggle co-op is a lot of fun as well as playing Spelunky. I also have fond memories of doing all-night co-op runs with friends on Halo 2 way back in the day during high school. Those are always fun. A PC provides a "better" experience IMO for that type of thing, but it takes time to set up and unless you've built a PC that was designed for LAN play (which they do make), it can be a annoying to bring all the stuff you need to someone else's house.
