Longest I've been on a coach/ferry was about 26 hours from Leeds to Spain, the coach seats were really uncomfortable so I ended up sleeping on the floor for some reason.

I have the entire Total War collection but I had no idea how nuanced and difficult it is to get into. I played Rome Total War and it seems like an incredible concept but I cba to actually learn all the proper tactics and such.

Best advice I can give to you is take your time, play some simple tutorials.
All the games use pretty much completely different strategies (different time periods, etc etc) and it's hard to give you some good strategies that fit with all of them.
The only one I can think of is: Cover your flanks and make sure you get in theirs with cavalry.
