Going to the gym never felt like work to me.
I remember going to the gym for the first time with my friend and ever since then I just loved the burn working out gives you, and then the endorphin rush right after. Waking up sore the next morning never felt so good. :v: Getting ripped became more of a bonus to me.
Im a nerde so gym is a bit boring to me, but if I had a friend I guess that would help. No motivation.
I'm not really sure why I hate Splurgy's posts so much, but it's probably because everything he says sounds like things I think but never say. This is because I understand how hurtful harsh words can be, and it's most frustrating when you are feeling down. This is especially evident for Splurgy's 'wake up' posts which seem to completely degrade the user, and then Splurgy gets a few pats on the back for it. If you tried pulling that shit in real life, I can tell you 100% you would've only made things worse. I'm not saying anyone should be coddled, but the manner in which you go about calling them out on things could most definitely use some work. Besides, it's an internet forum. Why do you feel the need to call them out on such things, anyways?
as someone who has been on the receiving end of one of splurgy's posts - no. when he does them it's because whoever it is sincerely needs a metaphorical kick up the backside.
He's too obsessed with his own opinions.
Everyone who said, 'My uncle was in the army and was the nicest guy I know' Did that relative also serve actively in hostile territory such as the middle east for long periods of time? I'm not saying Doktor did but you just need to think a little about how people will react to what you say before you post. The biggest offender of that here is Splurgy.
He did serve in the middle east for prolonged periods of time and I did say he was captured by insurgents, making him stuck out there for longer so I believe that answers your question. I believe at the time he had served for a total of at least 15 years or so.
That's making Doktor look like a guy going through basic training in comparison.

You'd be learning a lesson if you read a reply from splurgy.
You were able to understand the err of your ways because you as a person were able to make that call. Not everyone is lucky enough to have a similar personality type as yours.
Understanding that this is likely to trigger a defensive response, why did you feel the need to post your 'credentials', so to speak, in dealing with mental illness? You are coming down on him for trying to garner sympathy in order to cease the argument, but you yourself are doing it in order to sound more credible.
I understand some of the points you are trying to make, I really do, but you have to understand your tough love approach doesn't work with everyone. And neither, if I may concess, does coddling someone. But you really have to feel out someones character to a point in order to make that call. This is something no one could have done given the limited interaction of an online forum.
The tough love approach does not work with everyone, that's very true. But given we're on a semi-anonymous internet forum, there's not really any alternative. The two options we have here are the tough love approach and being enabling, because any other approach would require us to know the person more and be in regular contact with them.
I personally don't think being enabling is going to help anyone and from what I've seen of internet forums, the softly-softly approach just ends up turning forum threads into pity parties.

guys
guys
I think what the guy was getting at is although there's a lot of timeless rock classics, the genre itself is kinda over and if you only listen to rock you'll just be ceaselessly retrospective and miss out on the cutting edge of music today.
People liked rock at the time because it was all new sounds, but now they've gone from "crazy new music of rebellion" to "dusty old songs you get down from the shelf to listen to because they sound cool". They don't have the same impact to us as they did to the people who were there when the music first came out.
What do you guys think of something like this?

i just generally don't care enough about music to seek out anything new. music doesn't captivate my imagination or cause me to feel any kind of emotion, I just use it as a vaguely pleasant backdrop for my life while I do other things. this is why I'm content to endlessly listen to music by long-dead rock artists and classical composers

That's a shame, music can make me feel happier than anything, or just make my sadness stronger, whichever. Strong emotion is fun, I don't really get it much from anything else, so I like music a lot. Listening to new music so I can find more stuff that can make me feel great. Maybe you've just not been listening to the right music, or not been paying attention. Or it could just be simple as you not really liking music all that much.

as far as I can remember i've never been enthusiastic about music, I didn't even find any artists that I liked until I was about 14, and that was through accident. enjoying a particular song enough that you'd want to sing it aloud or dance to it is a totally alien concept to me
I just started listening to Celldweller. My new favorite boyband, and I don't even like boybands.

I only really got into music in 2009 when I was 15. Think it just started off with Muse and Kate Nash for that year. This was my first euphoric song though, and the beginning of my descent into shit taste in music:

Oh how I love my mandatory volunteer job, ended up sat watching the electronics department for 4 hours today and all the TVs were set to MTV, who were doing a Jersey Shore marathon.
I swear my IQ dropped by 200 because of it.
I also ended up getting forced to kick out a group of 3 kids who shoplift and set a bin on fire last week by the floor manager (who is a total asshole and the reason the shop floor is a clusterfuck).
The leader of this shitface pack gave me such a dirty look when I kicked them out of the store entrance, however I get a feeling my bike is going to be targeted for a lovely slashing tomorrow as they saw me riding it back home and that dickhead gave me such a shit eating grin.
I fucking hate kids who think they are untouchable because they are minors.

Stuff like this reminds me why I really do hate children. That sucks mang.
Okay, so I was planning to do a motorcycle tour with my friend and he fucking cancelled it.
It was the only thing I was looking forward to for the entire summer. It was the only thing I had planned and used my holiday for the summer. Without it, I might aswell cancel my holiday since I will just sit on my ass now anyway. I only had 2 weeks of holiday max. I thoroughly planned this from last year on. THE ENTIRE FUCKING SUMMER IS RUINED! Everyone else already made their plans. it's gonna be ONE FUCKING YEAR UNTIL I CAN DO ANYTHING COMPARABLE EVER AGAIN. Here's to working while everyone else is having a good time travelling or taking their student's holiday for granted, not doing anything in the least.
I am pissed beyond believe. Don't think I've been so pissed off at a person in years
Okay, so, I was planning to go outside today but I fucking canceled it.

I had that happen to me a few months ago, the whole shit-eater pack kicked-out of store thing.
I looked out the window the entire time I started working the next day, then as soon as I saw them, I took my break and when outside to wait by my ride. They come up and before I let that fucker speak I grabbed him by his hair and threw him to the ground and punched the other two in the neck. Then I simply left inside.
Haven't seen them since.

More seriously, don't keep up the random negativity things, it looks somewhat like trolling sometimes and while I highly doubt you're a troll, it's not going to do much good.

Because we're all whining about our dumb and gay social lives when there's entire families being slaughtered in syria and afghanistan, millions of starving homeless in China, and an entire continent and a half with very little food and clean water.
I'm just as depressed and in the hole as the next neckbeard facepuncher. I'm just saying that there's half a world that has it worse than us.

"Alright, here's the deal. I'm fully aware that there's a starving child in Africa right now. We all know that. But I don't see him here right now, do you? No? Then quit bringing him up. Just because somebody has it worse, doesn't mean I don't have a right to complain. All it means is that we BOTH have a right to complain, but he just has a much bigger right to complain."
"I'm sorry, but I don't care... I've got my own problems to worry about. I'll tell ya what, though... Why not you fly on over and use your kindness to feed them? As for the rest of the continent, Africa's like Mexico, but way more diseases and corrupt warlords live in Africa...
Along with Lions, tigers, and other dangerous animals... Tell Ikemefuna in the Whachutu tribe to go and hunt one of thos things... If he comes back, he's not only helped out, but has WAY better chances with women... AND THAT'S HOW THINGS WORK IN AFRICA!!!"
Get over it and life your life accordingly; you don't have to shit in the punchbowl just because some kid in africa isn't drinking out of it.

Don't bring up that argument. Jeez, it's the oldest argument in the book...
On top of which you shouldn't be calling people out when you were whining very recently about your non-existant social life.
You should always strive for something better. Just because someone else has worse doesn't mean you should stop all progress where you are, that's not how the world works. You should never stop trying to make both yourself and society a better place, regardless of where that is.
[editline]31st July 2012[/editline]
That's why this whole 'first world problems' thing is such bullshit. You should always fix something if possible, don't let it go just because there's something worse.
Plus, it simply isn't practical, people will say 'why try when there is worse', and give into laziness and not do anything at all. It's a terrible mentality.
