No. The 50th anniversary belongs on tv like all the others.
Doctor Who + Movie = Shit
Every time.
Perhaps the 50th should be on TV, but a movie would be awesome. Why do you think it would be crap? Just get some decent writers.
I kind of agree with Dan. History doesn't speak well for DW movies.
It's more established now. You can't let rubbish like "The Enemy Within" cloud your judgement.
Movie? Just have a three parter. Same amount of time, doesn't have the stigma attached to it. A Who movie would have a completely different feel to it to the TV show. If you don't believe me, watch any series that has had a movie made from it.
whats so scary about a roomba with a fire extinguisher and plunger attached to it again
It will kill you.
did they have enough room in the budget for daleks to kill you
You will be sucked. That's pretty terrifying.
it's a shame i'm getting my haircut before halloween; i was gonna put together an 11th doctor costume, and i have the hair at the right length for it.
You will be sucked. That's pretty terrifying.
A Dalek sucked a guys faces off in the 2005 series.
[editline]18th October 2011[/editline]
The Mind of Evil was one of my favourite series. I wish they'd bring back that machine.

A movie would really only feel bigger and it would be nice to see a decent effects budget, I know you guys love those cheap effects, but there are people who wouldn't mind if the effects were as good as stories (for one story at least).
I don't I really understand why you guys are so reluctant to the idea of a movie, if it didn't work, what would the show have lost, it would just go on as normal? The movie would arrive on TV afterwards, so what's the problem?
The show would lose it's so far incredible reputation.
[editline]18th October 2011[/editline]
It took 9 years after the last movie screened for the show to be revived. Go figure.

Ah, I don't think that had much to do with it, "The Enemy Within" wasn't really a movie, it was a TV special. Three parters are annoying, you have to wait 2 weeks to get the full story. I remember how frustrating it was waiting for part 2 of the 2008 series final, but it paid off.
I my opinion a Doctor Who movie would be awesome, to see the brilliant stories of Doctor Who on an epic movie scale would blow my mind, I mean if cinema can make Hollywood rubbish watchable, think about what it could do for a decent story. If you don't think it would work that's fine, but I don't think I'll ever understand your point of view and I find it sad that I'm the only one on the planet who thinks a Doctor Who movie would work.
And that's a bad thing? That's a great thing. Suspense is great for a series.
And that's a bad thing? That's a great thing. Suspense is great for a series.
It's a frustrating feeling that consumes me, I hate it.
It's frustrating, yes, but the feeling you get after several months/weeks of waiting in suspense is magnificent.
I suppose yeah, I was thinking that'd extend it over 3 movies something, but I think you're right, I didn't think about it enough.
I would however love to go to the cinema one day to see Doctor Who, but the story would have to be pretty fucking Epic.
"hey we should make movies about the clone wars and show how anakin became darth vader, that'd be fucking epic!"
yeah and look how that turned out
EDIT
ahah holy shit Dan posted the same thing as me
[editline]18th October 2011[/editline]
Well The Simpsons Movie didn't.
the difference is that the simpsons TV show was already pure bilge at the time so the movie was better by virtue of sheer novelty
Doctor Who is in its prime right now, there's no reason to make a movie.

If there were to be a movie, the best thing would be to go the Firefly route.

The inbetweeners did it well. I know it's a compleatly different kind of program though.
oh god i got TV movie flashbacks... a mindless blur of cheese, sunglasses, and overRRRRACTING to the maximum levels the universe can handle until it's sucked through the eye of harmony.
oh and eric roberts.
The celebration of a long term TV show should be on TV.
Say, I wonder what they'd call Doctor Who in China? Doctor Hu? If that was the case his zodiac sign would be that of the tiger. (Hu means tiger in Chinese, apparently)
But then another thought; Doctor Who as a 70's martial arts movie, with the Doctor kung-fuing Cybermen and suchlike aboard Hong Kong Station.
One last pseudo Who thing; Doctor Who plus Inception. It'd be like Amy's Choice only with more dream-time.
I love me some Christopher.
Amazing to see Bernard Cribbins looking so relatively young.
Be cool if he comes back even more damaged and mental from escaping the time lock. Then boom regeneration into a saner, sophisticated, smarter Master. Benedict Cumberbatch or Patrick Stewart would do.
God yes! Benedict Cumberbatch. Or somehow make it so it can be John Simm again. He was so good.
I would have to be Madame Kovarian so I don't think I'll go for a Doctor theme this halloween.

Actually, Firefly/Serenity was really, really good. So not all series to movies are bad. But Doctor Who is in it's prime for a reason. If you put it into a movie, all the suspense would be gone; we'd know we'd get an answer at the end. That's why Doctor Who as a TV show is so fantastic - you can speculate, theorise, joke about and generally have a great time talking about it, and your mind can still be blown by the outcome. A movie would need to be better than an entire series for it to work, and I don't see that happening. We need the suspense. We need the uncertainty. And sometimes, we just need to leave it be. What would a movie even accomplish, anyway? Absolutely nothing the series couldn't.

Going to Venice on the half term! Gonna make sure to look out for any suspicious looking Vampires or alien fish people :v:

Also, regarding a Doctor Who movie, whilst it'd be great to go to a cinema with a bunch of mates and watch a Doctor Who story involving hollywood-style effects on the big screen, I'd rather not pay a tenner to see something I usually watch for free, in the comfort of my own home, knowing that I'm basically watching it along with millions of other fans. You go to the cinema for the experience, but with something like Doctor Who, you watch it at home for the experience. If you get what I mean. It would mean that spoilers would be all over the place in this thread; we'd all have to either see it at the same time, or not talk about it until it stopped being shown. And that's assuming everyone in the thread would see it - I mean, obviously if we were given the choice we'd all see it, but obviously we can't count on all our local cinemas showing it, or someone being a bit short of cash when it came out.
And besides, the amount of people who would try and see it at 7ish on a Saturday night would be overwhelming. And that's the time I'd probably try to aim for, so... Yeah. I agree with what was said by several other members, about the story, the characters, the writers having to be the best and whatnot. But looking at the idea from another angle... Making a Doctor Who film would STILL be a rubbish idea.
"What?"
"What!?!"
"What?!!?"
David Tennant wondering how the hell the girl got on the Tardis from The Runaway Bride.
I liked him going what the fuck how'd you get here.
Am I the only one whose least favorite modern Doctor (9-11) is the 11th?
Am I the only one whose least favorite modern Doctor (9-11) is the 11th?
My dad stopped watching because the show became to silly for him when he saw the 5th series and his favorite is the 9th and wished there was more of the 9th doctor.
More 9th doctor, and get rid of IE and go chrome/firefox.

I might be your dad. I still watch Matt Smith though.
More 9th doctor, and get rid of IE and go chrome/firefox.
I could do that, but I'm lazy most of the time.
I might be your dad. I still watch Matt Smith though.
I have to give him credit for recording the broadcasts of the old series on PBS on vhs, then recording them in such a way where each part to one story were stitched together as one episode. I should write to BBC video in charge of the old doctor who dvds where when they goto blueray or the next generation of data storage to have a feature that plays each story as one episode.
