Alex Day / Chameleon Circuit Bandcamp page on the way now :v: "You're hearing this fucking album if it's the last thing I do."
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
For some reason now I have an overwhelming desire to be in a band dedicated to making songs about Doctor Who.
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
Fuck, I gave the Still Got Legs player one last click on the play button, my earphones gave a little snap of sound and my heart skipped a beat. But it was just a little static-y sound, player's still broken, and I am sad.

I keep refreshing Alex's blog, hoping sadly that the player will magically work. And a bandcamp page eh?
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
It's working!
I go and get a glass of water and it starts working, goddammit
This sounds... pretty amazing. The quality of this is on a whole different lesson. It sounds clean and clear, lots more adapting/playing with the sound, added Tom Milsom to the vocals... it's good! Playing more with the guitar sounds, more song variation. Dayyym.
Tom Milsom's on this album?
And the sound quality is [I]definitely [/I]better, but I can't help but think they should have used a song with a quicker pace for the opening. Nightmares is pretty awesome though :v:
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
Holy shit I love Nightmares.
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
Now there's a sentence I never thought I'd type
I liked Travelling Man a lot, but I'm not fussed about the chorus, which is a shame. Nice vocals on this one. And yeah, they added in Tom. Tom sung Regenerate Me if I'm not mistaken.
Doesn't sound like Tom at ALL on Regenerate Me. Pretty sure it's that Eddplant guy, Tom's voice is very small and a little weird sounding compared to the vocals on that track.
Travelling Man's kinda cool, but yeah, the chorus seems a little too... Eh, I'm trying to think of a better word to use than "wimpy".

AH SHIT! I meant Eddplant! Wow, I'm thick late at night :|
And hello, it's that girl singer that sang on one of the nerimon vids recently...
Aha :v:
Also, wasn't expecting the female vocalist on Everything is Ending, but it was a pleasant surprise.
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
A surprise I've just RUINED FOR EVERYONE. AAAAH

Haha! It was nice
Wish she'd added in a slight Scottish accent, otherwise it was awesome :v:
And I reckon they definitely picked the right person to sing Mr. Pond
Oh yeah! I like how Mr Pond is picking up at the end. Had a bit of a slow start
Perhaps it's a reference to how Rory started off a bit of a wimp and ends up... Well, like he ended up in A Good Man Goes to War :v:

Ha, I like that idea a lot. Kiss the Girl is pretty hilarious and cute.
Knock Four Times was... Odd
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
And Teenage Rebel is awesome... I'm looking forward to seeing how Big Bang 2 sounds!
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
Hmm. Just... Hmm.
I'm warming to Big Bang 2. It's just not as quirky without the Uke.
Eleven is AMAZING
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
Sound of the Drums has a very very nice start.
I much prefer the version with just Charlie and the Ukulele, to be honest I'm [I]really [/I]not fond of what they did. And so far Eleven sounds... Wait, that was it? I was gonna say that they probably had to make a decision between using the I Am The Doctor thing in either Big Bang 2 or Eleven, and went with Eleven and a different take on Big Bang 2, but they could have combined the two and made an AWESOME song, instead of a long one that just sounded bad and a decent one that lasts barely a few minutes.
Oh, and The Sound of Drums is awesome. Although, I think they went a bit over the top with the [I][U][B]REGENERAAAAAAAATE[/B][/U][/I] bit.
Sound of Drums was very impressive. New favourite song.

Yeah, I liked the Uke version better, the overarching style of the album didn't suit the song at all, it suits the more comic style of their first album a lot better. This album is a lot 'grittier' if that makes sense.
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
Wow, Knock Four Times works brilliantly with it's new look.

You're right about the original Big Bang 2, the lyrics "oh my god he's wearing a fez, oh my god he's wearing a feeeez" don't really fit in with the other songs on the album :v: I reckon they should have made an EP bridging the gap between the two albums or something.
Ooooh, Still Not Ginger is pretty good.
[editline]12th July 2011[/editline]
Gonna go listen to it again :v:
Okay, so, just finished Still Got Legs. Now I've had my fun nerdgasming, I'll try and more articulately review it for all of you that just had to trawl though my outburst.
Those of you put off by the lyrics/vocals/quality of the first album, you will be pleasantly surprised. The quality of this album is on a completely different level. The lyrics are much better thought out, but still have in places that tongue-in-cheek wittiness that made the first album so enjoyable. There is a lot of more 'serious' lyrics now too. The vocals have been enhanced by the addition of Eddplant, and though I suspect there's been a little more autotune used in this album, it's been used for all the right reasons. Even where it isn't used, the vocals are pretty much spot on, and the addition of a female singer for a couple of songs really enhances it too.
The feel of this album is a lot grittier. Wheras the first was comical/playful, this one is very much more dramatic. They now have a firm grasp of harmonies, complex instrumentation and a lot of music tech manipulation abilities they didn't have before. It's a lot heavier - nice use of distorted guitars and even the odd scream. The general depth of harmony in particular now is amazingly dense and well thought out.
They haven't held back on sneaking the Who music into it. You'll hear Rose's/9th/10th Doctors theme thing, Amy's Song, and plenty of references to the episodes. The Master even gets his own song, The Sound of Drums, which is in my opinion the very best of the album, and it revels in it too, being 5 minutes long.
If you are doubtful, listen to "The Sound of Drums" and perhaps "The Doctor is Dying" and work backwards from there.
Happy listening :v:

I burned my own CD of the first album, and I always chuck the Uke version amongst the first album's tracks. Fits perfect, and I think I'll treat the two as different entities.
Well, Jess managed to sum it up waaay better than I ever could, so I'll just write down a couple of things about it. Read that post ^
It's excellent, no doubt. It's veeery clear that this is much more of a band effort - while the first album seemed a little schizophrenic, lurching from one song to another, with no real structure or anything holding them together other than the "songs about Doctor Who" tag, you can really tell that one heck of a lot of teamwork has gone into the songs. For instance, they've obviously spent a lot of time making sure the right vocalist sings on the right tracks - the use of Charlie as Rory, with Alex standing in for a few Doctor-based songs etcetera, really works.
However, while the album sounds great now they're more of a [I]band [/I]than just a group of DW obsessed YouTube musicians, the fact they're working together does have its drawbacks. The album has some great songs, like Nightmares, Teenage Rebel, and - as Jess said - the Sound of Drums, none of them come close (in my opinion) to beating "classics" like Blink, An Awful Lot of Running, and Big Bang 2. The original, I mean.
One of the biggest problems with the album comes in the form of Big Bang 2. It's a little odd how badly they managed to mess it up. The original Big Bang 2 was just Charlie with a Ukulele, outlining the Series 5 finale very quickly, along to the melody (?) of I Am The Doctor. This version of Big Bang 2 throws away the I Am The Doctor sound, replacing it with what I can only describe as half-formed ideas and random sounds thrown in for shits and giggles, all because of the eleventh track, Eleven. Somewhere down the line, someone's obviously said "Hey, wouldn't it be a great idea if the eleventh track had something to do with the Doctor's eleventh regeneration?" So they took the I Am The Doctor sound, and put it in a thirty second soundbite with not a vocal in sight, that starts off great, and ends before it really gets into it. Hmph.
But that's just one exaggerated flaw in what is otherwise a pretty good album. Like Jess said, give it a listen, the Sound of Drums is probably the best of 'em.
I love all the cleverly thought out features. "I hate repeats" being repeated. "Knock Four Times" being the sinister foreshadowing of "The Doctor is Dying" and the cloister bell at its beginning. The Doctor is Dying's beginning genuinely sounds sinister and the END with those terrifying screams from the end of Sound of Drums really top it off. Sorry, I have to stop doing this :|
Basically - Great album, getting a physical copy asap :v:
Hey uh
Dunno if you chaps play TF2, but I'm looking for Doctor Who references for my items. No Fez related stuff, if possible.

At Alex's blog, [url=http://alexdaymusic.com/]here[/url]. The whole album is up to listen to. I'm on my fourth or so listen through the album now, it's pretty addictive stuff.
The BBC has announced that it will be possible to rent episodes via Facebook using Facebook credits.
