Thought I might stumble back into the thread and make sure you know I haven't crawled off and died somewhere. So how many people are all set for Cardiff then?
Would people be able to get to Cardiff sooner than 1:30? Only that I think people will want to be leaving before peak time on the trains start to avoid expensive tickets.
I'm not sure what the best way of getting there would be. To be honest, the furthest I've been outside my town via rail is London, so I'm a bit helpless when it comes to this stuff.
And depending on how much it'd cost, I might not be able to come at all. Which is highly likely at this stage...

Acezorz, I'm there during the morning so earlier is ok with me. I only said 1:30 because there were some people who said that 10am was too early.
We're thinking about 12:30 instead. Although it's looking like I'll have to arrive at 11:46 or it'll be £10 more, so I don't mind waiting 45 minutes.

Also use http://www.thetrainline.com, you can sometimes get some cheaper deals.
I can be at the station by 11:45 if you want to meet up there. And thanks for that link, btw. Had no idea that existed.
Yeah, there's pretty much no way I can get there, depending on the tickets they're either too expensive or involve a journey that means getting home at, like, 5 in the morning.
Really annoyed at that... Would've been awesome to meet up with you guys.
Also, not sure if this has already been made clear, but there are three train stations in Cardiff. The one we ought to meet up and try to get to is Cardiff Central. That's where most of the national trains will go, I think it's the most major station. Otherwise we'll spend forever trying to collect ourselves up instead of getting on and enjoying our visit

Yeah, I'll be there about 12:20.

The day before.

This. Also, I do not know the layout of Cardiff Central, so could someone who has been there please suggest a specific meeting point?

Frankly, neither do I. I haven't got a train to Cardiff before. If there's a front entrance/foyer, it's probably best to wait around there. Other than that, perhaps someone should take command as a sort of leader and perhaps take everyone's mobile numbers so that we can sort of co-ordinate ourselves. I would offer, but I am absolutely crap with phone numbers/responsibility/any act of organisational skill.
I would gladly do it, but I will be in roaming which means prohibitively expensive call/text prices. Add to that the fact that I won't have internet access during the 23rd and yhea, can't really be that person.
Here's an option: every station has a platform 1. Should we meet there?

That's when it turns out that Cardiff Central is famous for its lack of a Platform 1 :v:
I'll do it, PM me if you want my number and I'll be happy to help out. And yeah, I was going to suggest a platform. Platform 1 it is!
Can people already in Cardiff/who get in earlier and want to go away and come back get access to the platforms without a relevant ticket though?

Oh... I did not see that coming. In Portugal we can :S

It depends where you are in the UK. Some stations really don't care, but more major stations usually have some sort of check or barrier to prevent you from going through unless you present your ticket. Helps to stop people from fare-dodging. I'd guess that, being the capitol of Wales, Cardiff is sort of major enough to prevent returning to a platform without a ticket.

In that case, the foyer/atrium/entrance sounds like the better choice. Should we wear some sort of identifying mark?

Okay guys, to make it easier we're going to meet outside Marks & Spencer at 12:30pm, which is just to the left of the main exit of the station:

Read something today, but haven't checked it out yet. Apparently the Doctor's bow tie is always red when they travel to the future and blue when they travel to the past.
Nice thinking with the Marks & Spencer. I can take the opportunity to buy a prawn sandwich :D
an extortionately priced prawn sandwich
mmm you can taste the snobbishness

All I know is someone gave me a M&S prawn sandwich once and it was amazing. Granted, at the time I did not have to pay for it :P
