Yeah I suppose I have to admit the way Moffat executed it was funny, but it still sort of disappointed me. I'd also like to clarify I still love the Big Bang as a whole, just not the beginning.

Entropy is a thermodynamic property that can be used to determine the energy available for useful work in a thermodynamic process, such as in energy conversion devices, engines, or machines. Such devices can only be driven by convertible energy, and have a theoretical maximum efficiency when converting energy to work. During this work, entropy accumulates in the system, but has to be removed by dissipation in the form of waste heat.
In classical thermodynamics, the concept of entropy is defined phenome
Entropy, my friend, is also an adjective used in media studies. Entropy is the antithesis of redundancy. If something has high levels of redundancy, it is boring and predictable. If something is entropic, it is unexpected or bizarre, and outside the expected norms of the media text. If something is too entropic it causes a breakdown of understanding of the media text as we rely on redundancy in order to make sense of what we are seeing, relating the media to other media we have already consumed. I refer you to my analyses from my media A2:

it's a negative correlation. at the start of the read (10 on the y axis), she is smiling, then as she finishes reading, the smile turns into small mouth.
Still doesn't change the fact that the cliffhanger resolution was anticlimactic. I remember vividly the week preceding The Big Bang and all the speculation as to how he would get out.

It did seem like a Deus Ex Machina if you ask me. Personally, I prefer the Chekov's Gun, something that appears and then comes into use later, even if we don't realise the significance of the gun when we first see it. It gives the smart people something to think about and look back with realisation in retrospect, like "Oh yeah, so THAT's what it meant..."
The Pandorica's part in the Big Bang Two wasn't really explained much beforehand, and thus seemed more like a Deus Ex Machina, whereas if the Doctor or River was shown investigating the theory beforehand (perhaps a few episodes prior to The Big Bang, like if it showed the Doctor casually browsing through the data banks of the TARDIS, and we see him glancing at a certain topic in the "theoretical" section, pertaining to how in theory one could extrapolate the whole universe from a single atom), then it would've caused a foreshadowing that we'd look back on later, and realised it's significance.
Foreshadowing is cool, and allows us to look back at the important stuff, whilst also giving smart observant people a glimpse of things to come.
Also, why is it that the new companion vaguely reminds me of Martha?

Well the time wristband thingy was a chekov's gun but it still wasn't executed well
And I actually didn't mind the DXM with the Pandorica rebooting the Universe because it was really just a framing device for the Doctor's wonderful speech with little amelia in her bedroom
doing the atom -> universe research thing beforehand seems a bit laboured and would probably cause more problems than it would solve marketing-wise

Yes, I was gonna talk about the Vortex Manipulator but somehow forgot about it OH GOD A SILENT
Though at first it doesn't really seem as well-executed as other things, then one remembers how it works and what it does, but to be fair we only really last saw the Vortex Manipulator a long time back, last seen in mainline Who during the '08 Finale Serial, and last seen most recently at the end of Children of Earth.
Even without the absence of the VortexMan (not a good abbreviaton, I know), nobody could've expected the Doctor bursting out of thin air with a fez and a mop. Kind of an unexpected surprise.
Eh, the research thing wasn't the best idea, especially considering it was thought up at like half-past midnight. Makes sense that my craziest writings come at night, since that's when the mind is settling down and getting ready to enter Standby.
Man, I hope I didn't draw the Martha-Mel (apparently she's called Mel) comparison because they were both black... That would be rather embarrasing, but when the mind is entering Standby Mode you tend to forget things, like being politically correct... (still ain't an excuse for me, imo)
I often get weird and think differently when it's night-time, it's how I roll.
Well a few months ago I started watching this because of all the buzz from all of you here on the forum. I thought if most of you raved about it I'll probably like it. And you all were right.
I started watching the series on Netflix, beginning with the 2005 season with "the 9th doctor" Christopher Eccleston (I probably didn't spell that right at all.)
First thing I noticed was the horrible effects. Mind you I watch more modern shows with modern CGI/special effects. To me it looked like something from the early 90s.
The story I have to say was mysterious which was what hooked me in. The whole "who the fuck is he" thing. Also because he's a time traveler, alien and a bad ass guy. Mostly the time travel though.
Nearing the end of the season I was appalled by the ending, how the "bad wolf" mystery wraps up, the fight and everything. Right as the finale struck and he was explaining to Rose how he was transforming, etc. I was wondering "Wait, what?". Right then he transformed into the "10th doctor". I was dumbstruck. No TV show had the balls to go and change the look of their main character. I was mad obviously. I thought it was a ridiculous way of changing the actor.
Later I looked it up, and learned it had been done 8 times before. I was a little less angry but I still thought it was cheap. I still am kind of mad. The thing is I knew nothing about this, and everyone else did. So I thought I shouldn't be mad about it at all, I mean nobody else is complaining. I'm not sure if I should watch the next season, I thought Christopher was like the perfect Doctor but maybe this next guy is good.
I think I'll watch the next season sooner or later.
The show is brilliant, one of the best Sci-fic shows out there. Kept me entertained the whole way through.

One of usss
I guess to someone who doesn't know a thing about the show, regeneration probably would seem a fairly cheap way of getting rid of the actor who plays the main character. What you have to understand is that it's probably the main reason - well, one of the main reasons - why the show's been going on for so long. If regeneration hadn't been around, the show would've been over after... Three years? I think that's how long the first Doctor lasted.
Of course, there are other reasons the show's been around for so long, and obviously there are other ways that the show could've kept going without regeneration, but it's probably the best method they could've picked. And it's pretty cool, having different incarnations of the same character. This, and the James Bond movie series, are the only things I can think of that've done that sort of thing over and over again.

I read up a bit on the old episode of DW and I found a certain someone called "The Valeyard". Apparantly he was created sometime during the Doctor's Twelfth and final incarnations.
Looks like we have an enemy on the way, then?

The Beast Below. And Vampires of Venice at some points.

Read up nothing. Go watch the rest. Soon as you hear other opinions you'll loose your own.
PS, The Tenth Doctor is considered by many to be the best. It's a heated debate between fans because we debate everything because we can never admit it's good something's popular. And we like to rank our favourite doctors because we like lists. Everybody likes lists. But then lists cause arguments.
So yeah. Get on to Series 2 ASAP and come back. Then you can start Series 3 which in my opinion is fucking brilliant. Effects, writing and acting all round. And one episode in that series is really fucking terrifying.

Why not? The Doctor does seem to be moving towards a darker personality, and the possibility is still there for him to become The Valeyard.

Didn't someone say that the whole "how many regenerations do you have?" "Uh, 507!" thing was just a random number to make Clive stop asking questions? That seems more likely, since it's always been the fact that Time Lords have something like twelve or thirteen regenerations available.
