If you want to be going 30 mph+ do not get a board from loaded. Do not get any board that has FLEX. [editline]18th October 2010[/editline] I slide, you can make your own for about 15$. Do not buy the Vanguard, ti was my first board and it was ABSOLUTE SHIT. You don't slide on the gloves, you slide on tiny plastic pucks you velcro/glue onto the glove. You can make the pucks out of an old kitchen cutting board. Or buy them... http://www.blackvelvetslidepucks.com/ Take a look at these: http://earthwingskates.com/products.html I'd recommend the Supermodel. [editline]18th October 2010[/editline] PS: dont buy from loaded hurr
Can you recommend me one from here http://www.skatehut.co.uk/ because the one you posted is completely sold out. I really have no idea what's a good brand or series, so any help is appreciated

The website doesn't have many options, and the options they do have are pretty bad. http://longboardskater.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=EWSM9D&Category_Code=E9&Store_Code=LS This one is in stock. Put some Indy 215 trucks on there http://www.evo.com/independent-215-stage-10-skateboard-truck.aspx#utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=shoppingengine&utm_campaign=googlebase With some Abec 11 Flashbacks http://www.sk8trip.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=S&Product_Code=FBSet&Category_Code=W_abec11
right, and how easy will that be to assemble, considering I have no experience whatsoever with longboard assembly? [editline]18th October 2010[/editline] Also I'm looking for cruising/ downhill riding.
right, and how easy will that be to assemble, considering I have no experience whatsoever with longboard assembly?
Pretty easy, just buy bearings, bearing spacers, and hardware, you can find these all on the internet for about 20$ total. You can find guides on Silverfishlongboarding.com or youtube to put it together, it's easy.
Esteam you seem to know your stuff about longboards. What sort of thing would you recommend for a beginner who is looking for a board that is good for carving and crusing? Also is it possible to get a good complete deck for around £120 to £150?

http://www.octanesport.co.uk/shop/index.php/ 'Boomslang' It is possible, I think an Earthwing Superglider (Deck) setup with Indy 169's (Trucks) and any wheel really. I advise above 80a if you want to slide.
erm www.Stokedlongboard.co.uk is actually the best longboard site I'll think you'll find. They're cheap, they have good stuff in stock, and they have amazing customer service (e.g. if you send them an email in the daytime they'll usually reply within about an hour and a half)
I used to ride all the time back in middleschool with my 6 ft longboard. THen I moved and haven't used it atleast 5-6 years
I'll post this again incase anyone didn't see it. anyone in the UK want to buy a Loaded Dancer, with paris adam colton trucks and Otang 4pres 80a wheels?

But the thing is, any board can be used for what you're looking for. Take a look at some of the websites I showed above, see if you can get something in a higher price range if possible.
Hate to necro this thread again, but I figured some of you guys would like this. Kracked Skulls 42" Scimitar. Ordered Randal RII 180, Abec 5 Green bearings, and extra fiberglass for a more rigid feel. Total cost: $126.95. Shipping was about $15. I can't recommend this board enough. Stick some big sliding wheels on it and you've got a perfect slider and dancer. Stick some hard edged, soft wheels on it and you've got an amazing downhill board. The only "drawback" is that it doesn't have any graphics. It just lets the rider put whatever nonsense they want on their boards, which I love.
How tall are you? I'm 6'1 and 160lbs, so pretty skinny. And I have no sense of coordination whatsoever. I couldn't even stand on my board properly on my first day. It's all about practice, practice, practice.
I'm 6'5 and fat (to be blunt), but dont really look it because I'm so tall.
i fucking love longboarding http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ravMOYezMkY this is the longboard i have c:
Why all this necromancy? Anyways I longboard, I can barely go into a speed tuck because of shitty Osgood Shlatters. I find carving really fun though so it's all good.
As I said in the skateboarding thread...
I've got three longboards; a Bustin Spliff and Maestro 32/Mini and a Neversummer Heist. The Spliff's my cruiser for school, Maestro is for a poor attempt at travel or when I wanna go somewhere with my deck but don't wanna lug around my Heist, and the Heist is a kick-ass slider/speed deck.
Longboarding is populated with hipsters and non-offensive indie rock listeners. Traditional skateboarding is where it's at, we get hurt more often and get fucking owned when we hit a stone, that's how we roll. No but seriously I'd like to try longboarding, but I was never really keen of the leaning to turn thing when it came to skating. I mostly did flatground tricks and having loose trucks made flip tricks a pain in the ass, so I had my trucks so tight that leaning would barely turn you and to turn I would put my foot on the tail and do pivots. I also used 48mm wheels (afaik longboards average ~75mm) because it decreased the distance from the tail to the ground, making popping easier. I'm probably just stuck in 2005 but I exhale in exasperation whenever I see some poser in skinny jeans and checkered vans failing to ride a longboard, obviously only riding it as a fashion accessory. I might give it a shot if I get a chance, but I'll probably prefer a normal board just because I've used one for ages (plus having no tail will freak me out)
Longboarding is awesome. I don't know much about my board, except it looks and feels like riding half a tree, it's so damn heavy and huge but it's the smoothest ride ever. I got mine just for transport originally, I can be at my friends house a 5 minute walk away, one push on my longboard and I'll be home in a minute without touching the ground.
i do this kind of stuff on a bike
i do this kind of stuff on a bike
How do you do a kick-flip on a bike?
How do you do a kick-flip on a bike?
you try and break your legs
does anyone know any bearings that are good for cruising long distance on a flat road? my bearings suck and there are no hills near me.

It hurts when I sit.
Fuck yes, just smashed my tailbone yesterday skating, tell me that isn't dedication. It hurts when I sit.
I did that a few times, but by far the worst way is when the board lands on its side, you land on it, then it suddenly flips over onto its bottom / top and you fly down at the ground at 100mph My ass bone hurt for more than a week.
Sounds like living hell, I'd take a head slam over a tailbone slam probably. [editline]28th July 2011[/editline] Scratch that I hope for neither.

To me they are just people who want to be skaters but can't do flip tricks. But whatever just my opinion.
Man, I'd like to but where I live is completely flat.
Some dude in my school is all "Oh hi I can go down some hill on a board with wheels and it's gotten me a shitty sponsorshit shit", but it seems kinda chill to cruise around with some friends as just a hobby.
Yea, longboards are considered hipstery where I come from. So I signed up for a paraglider course instead :). Starting at the sixth of august, gonna be fucking awesome. And expensive.
I'm interested, looks very fun and relaxing. It's just a shame where I live is pretty much completely flat and full of complete idiots. I'll look into this a bit more, I may end up giving it a try.
"relaxing" think that thought after your first slam.
