loaded and otang for life i dont care what anyone else says
Otang wheels are crap for sliding. Either way to icey or way to choppy. Loaded makes ok stuff but if you want to do anything over 25mph they are crap, plus its all overpriced. [editline]5th August 2011[/editline]
Why is everybody busting their nuts over Sector 9's?
Zumiez sec9 boards produce kooks who blow spots and set a bad name for people who are really into it. S9 makes some good stuff, they have sweet downhill boards and the cs raceforms are baller. They've done so much for the community but their cheap boards allow a bunch of kooks to ruin spots.

Also it's obvious if you want to do freeriding and the like then of course you don't buy a loaded board.
Sliding.. Meh, I think longboards are simply just great for smooth riding down the streets.
my longboard should be arriving in the mail sometime next week :)
I'm working on a camera mount for the front of my Evo, I've got a prototype going and got some clips while testing it. The only thing I need to work out is getting rid of the immense bouncy-ness.
Attach a heavy weight to it and then suspend it from 4 springs. The weight will give it high inertia and make it less prone to wanting to move with the bounces of the board. And the springs are there to give it room to move as it compensates for the board. Might work, just sayin.
Sliding.. Meh, I think longboards are simply just great for smooth riding down the streets.
Everyone has their own flavor to it. The main reason companies promote freeride & downhill is because sliding is what sells wheels. Plus sliding is amazingly fun once you get a knack for it. I've tried a few other duros and makes from otang and didn't care for them either. Strictly sticking with Abec11 and nersh for now, probably gonna try a few other companies when I get some cash.
Help required! - Guys I want to build a board for cruising about normal skateboard width (7.75") with a tail. I know how to actually make the deck, I'll do the concave and the lift of the tail and slight lift of the nose by sticking plys together and clamping them in place. However I have a few questions for you - As I want a normal width deck, I could use my old normal deck trucks which at the axil are about 50mm from the board. I would probably go for wheels like these: http://www.longboardsuk.com/wheels/mindless-outlaw-longboard-wheels-83a-68mm-orange.html The wheels are 68mm so with the 50mm distance from axil to deck I'd have just 1.6cm between the top of my wheel and the board itself. This is just asking for wheel bite. Because of this I'd have to get some fairly thick riser pads like these http://www.longboardsuk.com/accessories/basic-riser-blocks-1-2.html That would increase the distance to 2.9cm, which to me is still a bit sketchy and wheelbite would be a possibility. So what would you guys recommend? I'm not sure if I want to do something where there is no board above the wheels and I stand between the trucks... The wider trucks look sort of appealing in that I can imagine they would cruise better but I'm finding it hard to make a choice. I kind of just want to have something like a normal skateboard but aimed at cruising instead. My new favorite board.
What's the effect of having the trucks on an inclined part of the board? It must affect handling. Also beware it could easily snap, those edges are weak spots - [thumb]http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5062494/junk/snapped_deck.jpg[/thumb] I did this landing a 360 flip a little heavy on the tail. The positioning of the trucks on that board you posted could be a snapped deck waiting to happen.
what board would you recommend for a newbie that just wants to cruuuiiisseee... And maybe slide a bit? I would like a longer/steadier board if possible. And I would like to buy online :3 any ideas?
also in all honesty, I am on the heavier side :P would I have any issues with balancing? I weigh 155 (around 155 Lbs)
Go with a kracked skulls. They have pretty cheap stuff thats good. Checkout jet, earthwing, and madrid too. Go abec11 wheels and for trucks go paris, randal, caliber, uhhh there are other cast trucks I can't think of. [editline]6th August 2011[/editline] 155lbs is fine. I weigh 165 but I'm also 6'3 anyways you'll be fine with any board really. Unless its like insanely flexy. Go with a stiffer deck if you want to do freeride and everyone eventually wants to bomb so you'll thank me later for the stiff deck. Flex is not good on a bombing run.

alright sounds good thanks takkun
alright sounds good thanks takkun
Look around longboardskater.com motionboardshop.com daddiesboardshop.com muirskate.com and google kracked skulls [editline]6th August 2011[/editline]
I've only ridden 4pres' and they were fine. I'm about to pickup some 80a reflex bigzigs, heard these bitches are FAST.
Okay so I\'m trying to figure out what options to put with my Kracked Skull M1.. Â*(thanks again Takkun for the advice) I have until the 24th before I can even buy the thing. And also, remember, I\'m on the heavier side at around 155 LBS and this is my ABSOLUTE first longboard. The price that the board comes at (with the only non-default setting being 46 inch long deck instead of 40 Inch long) is $132.75 My question is, should I add a quartz grip option and a double gass option for the deck? Â*After I select those, (and with the 46 Inch deck), the price comes to $169.75 (OUCCHHHHH!) And are my options okay? Deck: M1 46 Inch (normally 40) Truck: Randal RII 180 Wheels: 70 MM flashbacks Bearings: abec 5 green Extra options: Quartz grip (should I get this?) Double glass (should I get this?) Remove the \"Kracked Skull\" logo So yeah that\'s about it. Ideas?? Again, the reason why I\'m asking about the double glass is because I\'m a heavy (fat) guy, and also remember I can\'t even order this thing until the 24th. :P

This is with it being held on with one bolt and using rubber spacers to soften the impacts:

How tall are you? I'm 6'3 and 40 inches on my switchblade is plenty of space for me. Go with the bones reds man. Although I don't care for bones they are way better than those shitty abec5 bearings. Stick with the flashbacks they are a dope wheel and really floaty if you get into sliding. Randall makes good trucks so your all set their. Now the glass stuff is all up to you, that pertains to how stiff you want your board, like I said your not all that heavy but I don't own one so I can't really be the judge of how flexy it is. Here is a silver fish thread for you to skim through and get a feel for it off everyones reviews http://www.silverfishlongboarding.com/forum/longboarding-resources-q/43595-kracked-skulls.html Its only $8 for a little extra glass so if you wanna get a stiffer deck than why not? It'll just reinforce the stability of it because it wont have flex going downhill. Don't get the quartz grip just get regular grip tape. I think I covered everything, hopefully this works out to be everything your looking for. Its a low deck so its great for pushing around and slides. [editline]6th August 2011[/editline] also go with the scimitar I think everyone on the fish likes that one better [editline]6th August 2011[/editline] scimitar can take bigger wheels so if you ever want to up the wheel size it'll be good to go.
-moved it to next page so people actually see it-
Quartz grip (should I get this?) - this is basically bits of glass or whatever laid on the board then varnished over. not a nessesity, but saves the hassle of doing your own grip job and buying the grip tape. if you can get the griptape for less than the $15 this costs, leave it out. Double glass (should I get this?) - last time i cheacked 11 stone aint that heavy...? anyway leave this out untill you know what you really want from a board. the extra glassfibre will make for a stiffer board (more usefull when bombing down hills), but it costs. ye, id leave it. Remove the \"Kracked Skull\" logo - dunno, is it cheaper to leave it on? your choice.
You guys have made me want to get a longboard. Like really bad. Few problems, I'm a chainsmoker and in pretty shit shape, I am currently broke (but would at least definitely be able to get one around my birthday next month.), I can't skateboard (I do know that longboards are different, I'm just concerned I'll be shit at it.), my area doesn't seem like it'd be any good for longboarding, and it's sort of a social stigma with my friends. They hate hipsters, we have a recurring joke that all hipsters longboard and since I'm half a hipster already if I got one I would get shit on for like, weeks. I dunno though, it seems really fun and I'm heading to college soon. Seems like a nice way to get around, and I could use something fun to get me off my ass once and a while. I'm certain it's been asked a million times, but were should I get one and what sort of board should I get?
Don't be a pussy and buy one already. Faggot.
okay I\'m definently between 5 and 6 feet tall, but I am NOT near 6, so I\'m probably 5 or 5.2 after careful consideration I\'m not goona bother with the grip shit and the glass. my only other questions are (well now I\'m sticking with the scimitar) 1. Should I use the bones super red bearing, or just the cheaper bones red bearing? 2. Since I\'m nowhere near 6ft, should I use a 38 Inch board? With the scimi, you can go 38-46 Inches. also, what\'s the difference between the randal RII 180 And the randal RII 180 Black? It\'s a 4 dollar difference :P lastly thanks takkun and float for helping mah :)
OH yeah madmac10 look at page eleven. I just asked that question

not with the normal 'reds he wont. spend the extra 9bucks if you really want to, but i gaurantee it wont make much, if any, difference. if you were racing down mountain passes then id say get them, but not for the time being. just because theyre cheaper doesnt mean theyre bad. if youve got money to burn upgrade the wheels instead to the pink or lime bigzigs. the longer the better - i agree (to an extent). if its your first board get it properly long, ie the 46" one in a sort of 'if youre gong to do it, dont half do it' kind of way. the length will help with its stability as well. stiffness - all personal preference and intended use. a flexy board is 'right' for 0 - 30 mph. for speeds above 20mph a stiffer board makes for easier control. when you get above 30 id recommend a stiff board. [editline]7th August 2011[/editline] oh god whats happened? im off to bed.
IMO, the longer and stiffer the deck the better. Also, don't cheap out on bearings, you'll probably regret it.
Stiffness isn't always great. I prefer a nice flex to the deck.
What's the effect of having the trucks on an inclined part of the board? It must affect handling. Also beware it could easily snap, those edges are weak spots -
Having a lower center of gravity. I am going to get some carbon fiber and strengthen the deck. I did a test run today. It was fairly decent.FOR THE money. Now lemme repeat that for the money its worth it. But there is no pump. But easier to carve. Depending on the trucks.
Stiffness isn't always great. I prefer a nice flex to the deck.
Sometimes, yes, but I don't yet see the appeal to flex. Probably because my board has no flex at all, and I'm a heavy guy too.

Just go with 38~40 anything around there is usually a good size for most people. You can go super reds if you want but let me tell you its not about the bearing its more about keeping your bearings clean and lubed up, also going fast is more about your tuck. I beat my friends on my $8 speedy lunatic bearings vs their $30 bones bearings in a tuck stance any day. Don't do the quartz grip, griptape is like $10 and gripping your own deck can be fun if you want to do a little stencil art on it to give it your own flare. [editline]6th August 2011[/editline]
IMO, the longer and stiffer the deck the better. Also, don't cheap out on bearings, you'll probably regret it.
As long as you get Abec 7 bearings they are usually pretty nice. I find that my cheap boardshop bearings (milehighskates, daddiesboardshop, speedy lunatic) can all be fast if I clean them once every two weeks. Its personal preference, but I think that bones bearings are not worth the money. Seeing that he is going complete and only has those choices its up to him if he wants to cop the extra for the super reds. [editline]6th August 2011[/editline]
Stiffness isn't always great. I prefer a nice flex to the deck.
It depends on your riding style mostly. I usually recommend stiffer decks to people because that way if they want to get into downhill they are pretty set without having to buy another deck. [editline]6th August 2011[/editline] So buying this as my next board. It's a ninjati Once I kill my custom maxxspeed speed board. Than gonna reuse my 44 calibers and throw some lime bigzigs on it. [editline]6th August 2011[/editline] Or the new agent orange. I need more money man. [editline]6th August 2011[/editline] Also you guys like free stickers? Send a SASE to these companies and they will send you a bunch of free stickers. http://filesmelt.com/dl/Stickers_export1.xls Also email monster, mountain dew/pepsico and they will mail you stickers for free.
Most glorious moment in my longboarding career? Getting a loaded vanguard and a loaded dervish fully premade for the price of the deck of a vanguard. Dumb fucks on that website made my day.
Got lent some crappy old longboard for an indefinite amount of time, i'm having fun with it. Can't wait until November for my birthday so I can get my own :D
