Look at the BC eel

Don't think we have that in NL
Don't think we have that in NL
Eel's a great board, learned almost everything I do from that board. Much better quality than a tan tien, vanguard, or dervish. Not to mention a free custom graphic with every board. I recommend 78a BigZigs with Randals.

I want that fucking board o.o
I am gonna make some craaazy bottom graphic to go with it
Loaded and Original make ok products but they're are so many better alternatives out there for cheaper prices that are of higher quality. This goes out to anyone who is thinking about loaded or has just watched their many awesome videos on youtube and wants to longboard. Just simply ask me and I can hook you up.

being a loaded owner I agree with this wholeheartedly. the Dervish is a great board, and so is the vanguard, but if I hadn't accidentally gotten both I don't think it would have been decent value for money at all.
So I feel like it's a bit expensive for my first board, but this is what I'm planning on getting for my birthday next month: http://www.originalskateboards.com/longboards/pintail-40-longboard
Y'all think that's a decent board for me? I'm about 5'9 and 190lbs. I plan on using it primarily just for cruising around my college campus and bombing some backroad hills around my neighborhood on the weekends once I get the hang of it.

Good joke. Don't go original man. Don't even use the words "bombing" and original in the same sentence. If you got those trucks from them than your going to wobble past 20mph. The only original board that I'd consider is the apex 37 with some sort of RKP truck. What kind of board are you looking for? What style do you wish to get into? Budget? Don't go original man, trust me on this.
I haven't fallen hard in 3 years since I learned how to do this. You should also practice bailing, as in stepping off your board and stopping or running alongside it on both sides and all speeds. After mastering that, the only way you'll go down is by complete surprise. Adio is a really good durable brand that won't wear out. I've probably slid my shoe 3 miles foot braking and it is only now wearing out.
I've stopped from 35 mph in 50 feet. It is frightening as hell, but fun. I've gotten experienced enough where I can use foot braking for speed management while carving and bombing hills, allowing me to drop speed when I need to but go completely straight up until that point [rather than carving the entire way to maintain a safe speed].
I haven't been able to slide to stop, so I've become accustomed to foot-braking.
I need new shoes.

Even slide gloves? With a weeks worth of effort I think just about anyone can learn.

I'll take your word. I looking for a good board to just cruise on that can handle a hill or two like I said. I'm about 190 lbs and about 5 foot 9ish. I can spend up to about $200 since it'll be a birthday gift.
If Originals are as bad you say, thanks for the advice broski.
Oh, and I'm going to get a helmet as well, should I get slide gloves or would it not be worth it for how I plan on using the board?

Make slide gloves. Just get some free corian off the internet or your lowes/homedepot. Any helmet will do, I use a triple8. You should look around on http://longboardskater.com/ http://motionboardshop.com/ http://www.daddiesboardshop.com/ and just look for something that you like. Might I suggest taking a look at jet. They have some super dope stuff for a great price. Same with earthwing. Please don't pick a board simple because the graphic on the bottom is cool, no one sees that shit when you ride and the graphic will get scratched eventually. Pick something that has a shape you like and you think would be functional. Perhaps a symmetrical deck? Pretty much all around perhaps something like the jet doppler would fit what you'd like. Just look around and find something you'd like.
[editline]24th August 2011[/editline]
also for anyone wanting to make slide gloves. Just go to lowes/homedepot. Buy some industrial velco (trust me on that, get the good shit. You don't wanna lose a puck) get some corian samples around 4x4(inches) than some work gloves or whatever you think would work. Gorilla glue the velcro onto your palm of your glove, preferably on the lower base of your palm since thats where the contact is made. Than glue the velcro on the puck. Then you basically just made your first slide gloves, you can go thrash the shit out of them without worrying about them because you only spent $15 and not $50. If you get more serious than by all means get a real pair and pucks.
I only know one person who longboards, and i hate him. He made his facebook middlename longboard, and constantly makes statuses asking people to go longboarding with him. No one ever answers. He never gives up. Plus he has the mental capacity and personal hygiene of fecal matter.
Just sharing :3

I know dozens of people who longboard, and they are all my friends. We all have longboarding as a top like on facebook and pretty much every day make statuses about where a good place to longboard is, and share cool longboarding videos. We like to get high together and bomb hills at the national parks. We're all either in universities or transferring to universities soon.
Sorry you live in a shitty area for an otherwise amazing hobby.
Well good, you guys seem to do it because you genuinely enjoy it. This person just pisses me off because it seems like he read about people like you, and thinks you're cool. Now he want to be cool like you, but he's not.
I just wanted to see if most of you longboarders were like him. You aren't. Congratulations, You're respectable people.
I'd really like to get into it.
I skateboard a bit, but I'd really like to get a longboard to cruise around.
I've been checking out Landyachtz, but I've stopped looking because I'm still not sure whether I want a pintail or a dropthrough. I'm only wanting it for cruising at the moment, but sliding does look like heaps of fun and something I'd want to do.
I did like the look of the Dervish, but from what I saw above, it's overpriced and not amazing, hah.
Are you guys able to shoot me some links of boards that are pretty good quality for something that can cruise around and maybe even slide? Not sure what type of board yet, but I'm 135lbs, if that helps.
Thanks.
I do like the look of that BC Eel.
My main problem is price after shipping, 'cause it's gotta come all the way to Western Australia. I understand they're not cheap though, but cruising on a skateboard is near-impossible, so that's what I want a longboard for.
Maybe sliding, too.
It's $350 after shipping though. Gah, that's pricey.
Getting my Robot. 41" 9-ply, forsaking the Carbon Fiber because it may be too stiff and it's way too expensive for my tastes.
Friend got a concussion from longboarding and now shes back after a few days. Now I feel like longboarding again.

God I cannot remember for the life of me the name of a really awesome australian board company. They had super rad boards and I really wanted one but shipping would be insane. Search around for some australian board shops and makers. I'll look around too.

You'll like the stiffness when you go fast and slide. Its always nice to have the same feel everytime you do a slide or bomb, flex just adds wobbles and makes things weird. Although its really nice if all you wanna do is cruise. If you get money down the way its always nice to have 2 setups. Buying a bomber and making my switchblade a freeride dream was the best decision ever.
I've heard great things about the Vendetta. Did you not get any trucks though?
The new Paris Trucks. I just got the board. It is fucking awesome. I love it. The previous owner customized the grip tape, it's pretty cool.

Thanks man, I'll have a look now.
I'm pretty into the Landyachtz Drop Carve, but that would still be about $300 complete with shipping. I don't mind spending that much for a sweet board, but it'd be awesome if I could get a good one from Aus. Shipping wouldn't make the complete so expensive then.
Found this, what do you think? http://www.vaultskate.com.au/boards/dropcarve42.htm
What do you guys think about this longboard?

My friend has the LY Drop carve and he really digs it. I really like white zombies on it, smooth 180s when I tried it out. Its a quality board and I would suggest it. The vault board I cannot comment on quality or anything about it. Never heard of them but if you wanna break for the LY go for it, if you wanna save with the vault go for it. Its up to you. I can only comment on the LY deck.

All I can say is you get what you pay for~ Amazong quote "For $100 it's probably ok but.....board is slightly warped (only 2 wheels touch the ground when board is sitting on flat ground w/o rider) Cheap parts, board showing signs of splitting down center from front truck cutout (drop thoughs) to tip. Made n china...." checkout cracked skulls. For $60 more you can get a scimitar thats pretty dope, my cousin just got it and he is in love.

Two pictures from when we were out at the wildlife preserve.. the lighting was too shit for anything other than silhouettes but I thought it came out pretty cool.
