Would anybody suggest any cruising trucks and wheels for a board similar to a tan tien or apex 37. wheels for sliding as well.
My friend really wants to get me into longboarding, but I'm honestly scared to bomb huge hills, get speed wobble, and really fuck myself up.
Will I worry less and less as I get better, or is longboarding not for me? Isn't all the fun of longboarding bombing huge hills?
Teach me, please.
So yeah, since I live in Illinois and there are no hills, I had to improvise.

Also excuse the screaming from my friends and the bad quality.

Yeah bombing huge hills are not a good thing to do when you start longboarding. I had to learn that the wrong way. You will become more comfortable with your center of gravity. And become more confident as time goes on.
Randall 180mm 50 degrees, Otang Durian 83a, free Abec 5's. Decent freeride setup?
Fuck durians. I hate mine so much, so glad I replaced those. Go with abec11 freerides and your set.

What's bad about Durians? How about Stims?

You'll most likely fall. And when you're going down hills you need to have most of your weight on your front foot or you WILL get speed wobbles. Eventually if you like bombing hills enough, get a drop deck. They're made for downhill and since the boards are lower you have more balance since you're closer to the ground.

or you know, people who want a completely different experience. I've seen some real fat fucks who can skateboard well so I don't know what this 'fitness' you're bragging about is. great statistic to pull out of your ass there too, I trust you've actually got some citable evidence to back that up?
Woman with a longboard is always hot sight.

Personally I haven't ridden anything but 86a durians. Didn't care for them. Went Abec 11, never looked back.

Freerides or Flashbacks?
The only reason I said apex 37 is because I am building a board with a similar shape and flex.
Finally got the blank cut out on my lb from a friend. Everything else is ready.
In the end I went with randal 180, sector 9 nineballs very soft can't remember the duro, and bones reds. The grip tape design is undecided though. I think I'm gonna do a mix of strips and solid.
i just rode my first longboard saturday night
holy shit that was fun i want one
OK, so if I'm just looking for a board to get around, and maybe do some slides and whatnot later on, I should probably get like a 40" board, and higher diameter harder wheels? What about trucks? Or do they really matter that much? (I know they matter but is there huge differences between brands/styles etc.)
Freerides or Flashbacks?
Both are equally nice. I'd suggest the 81a formula. It all depends on how much cash you got in your pocket. Personally I'd go with freerides. Essentially their what I ride now which is pink powerballs which is just a abec 11 freeride in pink abec 11 classic thane.

$250 would be my max, but I'd prefer not to spend that much.
I'd like to get started with longboarding as my birthday nears. What are some good starter boards? I use to skate years and years ago.

Cannot comment on quality. But I always hold to the get what you pay for. Spend $80 more and you can get a quality setup.

I always reccomend a more freeride/downhill board to anyone buying their first board. A pintail although seems fun at first will not meet the needs of anyone who wants to increase their level of riding. Checkout motionboardshop muirskate longboardskater and just look around and ask us questions in the thread.

$250 will get you a quality setup. Style of preferred riding? Whats the area you live in like? Hilly? Flat?

Really just transportation with a possibility of getting into some sliding and bigger hills later on. And it's pretty hilly here, not san francisco hilly but decently hilly, but the roads are pretty shit (don't know if that would affect my wheel choice)

more money =/= better
anyways it's got awesome reviews
what are some good trucks for crusing/long distance/shallow hill
I'll probably start longboarding next summer, I'll have to do short distances between my house and where I work.
