So, the other day it rained, and the day after I decided to do some slides down a nice hill across the way. I was doing a long ass pendy, when suddenly, I stopped. I got up and noticed that one of my wheels had removed its self from the truck in such a way for the wheel to fly way the fuck away, and the truck to have all the threads stripped from that side. Fuck my board. Those were fucking old- ass 80a Kryptos too :c
True that. They don't even make kryptos anymore. I guess you should buy some caliber trucks and abec 11 wheels. Haha personal favorites of mine.

Ever had issues on something like a Dervish or Eel?

You just get more leverage and turn out of it so in my mind it makes slides so much more controllable. They are some of the best cast trucks on the market.

Calibers are pretty much the best cast truck, I'm getting some 44's this week.
How much is a decent longboard? And what brand should I go with?
How much is a decent longboard? And what brand should I go with?
$200. Earthwing, Jet, Landyachtz, tutone, nelson longboards, uhhh so many companies to choose from. I like small builders a lot more lately. Go on silverfishlongboarding and look around at small builders, you can get a totally rad board for good prices. Drop throughs are nice if you want higher stability and a higher center of gravity. Other than that I agree that top mount is more fun. Also, when I ride a top vs. drop the turning radius is alot wider on a drop through, but there are truck/bushing combos to compensate like gullwings or originals. You just have to play around to see what fits you.

They get wobs when they approach 40. Its all in the ankles.

I have a s9 Lacey, but I just bought a Glyde whyte line swallow. It's an Australian company, just trying to help the scene over here. Anyone here rode Sabre bushings? I'm looking at getting the 88a, 93a set up on calibers for DH.

But from what I've read over at the fish people really like sabre bushings. Might wanna check around the fish.

I was looking into 85a and 87a Venoms for freeride. What would that be like ? I'm sorta new at bushing sets.
Every fratboy dipshit on my campus uses one of these things.

I like to think this thread is more serious than just cruising with the bros. I'm busting my ass to get better at this sport in hopes of starting to hit the race scene whenever a beast coast one pops up.
I'm thinking I might get this board http://www.skatesonhaight.com/Madrid-Longboards-DTF-Lion-Drop-Through-Complete-p/declondtfc.htm What trucks/wheels/bearings would I want to get if I wanted to make it better for general cruising and able to slide?

The trucks and wheels with that are probably gonna suck. Good trucks go with randall, gunmetal, or caliber. And as usual I'm going to recommend Abec 11 wheels, flashbacks 81a would be perfect, great all around wheels.
if i bought a longboard, i would use it for transportation
That or a Bustin Boards Robot or Maestro 38", not really sure yet.
That or a Bustin Boards Robot or Maestro 38", not really sure yet.
The Maestro is a bit of a weird ride, I prefer the 32" variant but you can't go wrong with it. The Robot is the best board I've ever had the pleasure of riding.
Never rode a bustin. A old saying is that bustins break but apparently they've been stepping their game up lately. Personally I'm gonna start only buying from smaller board makers like night skateboards, and the soda factory. [editline]16th November 2011[/editline] Not sure if the lambchop is still $99 but if you want a rad ass sym freeride/dh board get it.
Recommend me a downhill setup, nothing too expensive. EDIT: It appears that the Landy lowriders are pretty popular, as are 4Pres, Indys, and Calibers.
just ordered: 2012 Earthwing Supermodel 38" 8-ply Independent 215 trucks Daddies Brand ABEC 7 bearings Earthwing Floater 81a 70mm wheels Shockpads Bearing Spacers Tool Kit i imagine this is a good beginner setup. opinions? i also need to get bushings but i guess i can rock stock bushings for a few weeks. also maybe harder wheels when i learn how to slide.

After the Heist, I bought my first Bustin deck. Since, I've never bought any other brand. Maybe it's because I'm a New York bastard, but I've only ever been served well by Bustin, the decks are solid and the service great. Not to mention the customization they offer. Speaking of the Heist, if anybody wants a good freeride deck, I'm not sure how the V2+ is, but...the V1 was godlike. The Flex is incredible.
So would getting this: http://earthwingskates.com/products/decks-a-completes/supermodel.html Be a good idea? Are the trucks and everything that come with it good? I can't seem to find a release date on it though, and I'd rather get my board sooner than later
daddieslongboards has it officially listed for sale, and that's where i ordered mine. there was no indication that it'd be a preorder so i assume their out(maybe daddies got them early). if you'd like to customize it, go to they sute and they can assemble it for you if you want. all the shit i got a few posts above was 235 with free shipping, and i bought with the intention that'd it would last so i think it's a fair price.
why cant I powerslide?! I can't get the concept down at all.
why cant I powerslide?! I can't get the concept down at all.
What kind of slide are you trying to do, and how are you doing it?
not so much a powerslide, a 180 stand up heel slide. i don't understand the concept of the "kicking out"
not so much a powerslide, a 180 stand up heel slide. i don't understand the concept of the "kicking out"
Go about as fast as you can go without getting really scared, then go a little faster. Kicking out basically means you push your foot on the deck really hard. There's a lot in the shoulders too, wind your shoulders up before you try to slide.
The Maestro is a bit of a weird ride, I prefer the 32" variant but you can't go wrong with it. The Robot is the best board I've ever had the pleasure of riding.
I'm seriously considering getting a Robot, Should I get Paris 180 Black trucks or Randal 180 Black 50s? For wheels I'm thinking the bustin 70mm 78a, and for bearings I'm looking at bustin abec 9 bearings.
Recommend me a downhill setup, nothing too expensive. EDIT: It appears that the Landy lowriders are pretty popular, as are 4Pres, Indys, and Calibers.
Top mount city baby. Its trendy right now, uhh for landy drops go with a chinook. I personally ride a custom night topmount. Its pretty much a comet greaseshark with w in the back and carbon fiber. I love it more than any other board I've ever bombed on. If your gonna get cast downhill trucks GO CALIBER OR GUNMETAL. I personally don't like otang thane and I'm a huge abec 11 fan, also I hear venom cannibals are amazing probably gonna be my next wheel to try. So I'd reccommend zigzags or bigzigs 78a or 81a even the 80a if you want to try reflex. Reflex is fun I currently rock 80a reflex bigzigs and its grippy as all hell but if you get anything over 25 you can get a really nice predrift. If your gonna go venom cannibals than 78a or the next up which I think is 81a? I'll have to try a bustin if I ever see someone riding one. [editline]16th November 2011[/editline]
why cant I powerslide?! I can't get the concept down at all.
best way to learn is to get some slide gloves than get going faster than 15mph and go for a coleman slide. Lookup how to do it on youtube. Its pretty much what everyone learns first, I did learn standups first since I was a cheap bastard on gloves. It takes a lot longer but once you get it, it translates to all the other slides very well. [editline]16th November 2011[/editline]
I'm seriously considering getting a Robot, Should I get Paris 180 Black trucks or Randal 180 Black 50s? Leave around 10 percent of your weight on the other. Throw your hips, and leg and shoulders through it. Look up some guides on youtube. It took me like 2 weeks when I first started to get it. I would go out everyday for at least half a hour and work on them. Got them in the first week than another to really get it every time. Its all about going at it and attacking it again and again.
So I'm thinking: Bustin Board's Robot Deck Randal 180mm 50 Trucks Bustin Swift 70mm 78a Wheels Bustin Abec9 Bearings 225$ Total Good?
