I was thinking about getting into longboarding, I need a sport hobby and this seems like a lot of fun. I never really liked skateboarding and enjoyed biking more because I enjoyed going fast rather than doing cool tricks. Any tips on buying a beginner board? I saw a Fibreflex board for 100 dollars used, is that worth it?

No. For a good starter deck that can go fast, Any stiff deck (just post it here and we will rate it), Caliber or gunmetal trucks (Best DH cast truck right now, opinion but loads of people ride them), and get some Abec 11 zigzags or bigzigs in 78a or 81a and your making money. Haha

this is a wonderful place to buy decks and trucks. I'd buy my cast trucks new though since they bend easier than precision, and wheels well who wouldn't want those new? If anything look around for a good deal on a deck.
Also my gen 4's came in the mail from the silverfish buy & sell. These trucks are fucking awesome, I can take tight lines that I used to scrub on with no scrubbing.

Ninjati is a rad as hell downhill deck, you'll love the W in the back for hands down stuff. If you want to know if its stiff just ask in this thread or email the company. The ninjati is a really good deck for downhill and I've seen people rip it on that deck freeride style. You may not dig the W in the back though, its pretty viscious. But that is a damn good deal so you might wanna jump on it.

Now I freeride and downhill a deck kind of similar to this so I can say that the W makes it pretty fun for toeside stuff but can be a little hard to get used to at first. For 50 bones why not though? You'd be looking at around $160-170 if you got that deck. Trucks are around $40-50 and wheels are around the same price. Factor in some bushings, hardware, and bearings and spacers and your ready to bomb.
finally outfitted my indy 215's with venom barrels and cones, both 85a. sooooo carvy and responsive, but i'm digging it so far. it's like i'm going to have to relearn how to ride this thing.

my board was found in a bush 7 years ago, still works fine.

Either buy a new set or clean them, you should be able to find a guide to cleaning them online easily.

In Australia, second hand boards still go for 120+. So a second hand deck for $50 + $50 or so for shipping is still cheaper than getting it over here.
