That's not really a starter board in the first place. And to fix your "soft" trucks, either tighten them, and if they can't be tightened further you need to buy new bushings.
Well yeah, I know to tighten trucks. I just mean the bushings that came on it are really soft.
And it's a starter board for me. :P
I'm contemplating whether to get a long board (like 55") or a normal one (about 42"), I doubt I'll be going down any massive hills or even tremendously fast, and I really like the way they are skating in this video, so I'm probably gonna go for a long one. Is this a good long one? http://www.skatehut.co.uk/acatalog/Lush_Kisiwa_Rasta_55____159.95.html
This is the vid I like:

I would get the board featured in this video but it's like £275.
Infact I might get it anyway, since I recently decided I wasn't going to buy a new guitar that would have cost me £700, so it's not like I can't afford it.

Ugh I want a board with flex so bad. The S9 I got only flexes a little. I want the board featured in the video.

My friend's board had a lot of flex but then it got old and worn out. He's really skinny but if anyone normal sized tries to use it now, the middle of the board touches the floor.

That board is designed primarily for its name; dancing. Dancing is a style of longboarding, and riding a dancing board around for transport or other means is a little bit overkill, and extremely overpriced. Not to mention that you will be more unstable when you hit objects or go at higher speeds, which can happen even when you aren't bombing hills.
Eh... In Tucson long boards are annoying as hell... Everyone has one all they make up for is bigger firewood.
I might get something like a 45" one, not really a dancer but still nice and long. good idea? I do really like the dancing idea though and it's probably what I'd mainly do. Maybe I'll go for the Dancer anyway.

It's not something that you can really just jump on and start doing, it's fucking hard, I've tried cross-stepping after 2 years of skating and ate shit. How long have you been longboarding?
This is what mine looks like

wtf.. Is that two kingpins on your trucks?? :o

Erm... just starting really, been skateboarding for a while. Also I got the old tape measure out and realised that 55" is really fucking long. I'll go for like a 42" or something.

I have a 47" board, and it's pretty fun to ride, it's a Gravity Hypercarve. You might like something like that. I'm mostly going off the post you made earlier about saying that you lose balance and start wobbling everywhere and lose balance when you try to skate.
Oh wow I might get a longboard. I've always had a skateboard, but I've never really been able to do anything besides ollie and even with loads of practice I'm still terrible at that. It's all about the cruising for me and I have a perfect hill for this. It's not steep, but it goes down evenly and if I push then it stays going fast. Always done it on a skateboard though which is really quite dodgy, because some parts of the road are uneven.
Most boards I see have an option to decide the flexibility of the board, I feel a softer flex would be better for relaxed riding. However I've found one where it says the softer flex is for people who weigh 100-185lbs, I weigh 189lbs (I'm really fucking tall) does this mean I would break the board or something?
I'd longboard if the area I lived in had more straight roads. We have so many corners I'm basicly forced to use a normal one.
Still, I find it fun to grind on benches and jump out from stairwells. Which a longboard "can't" :buddy:
I'm getting a longboard this Friday. I'm so excited. Any advice from anyone?
Have fun. It'll be awkward at first, but becomes very natural after practicing for a week or two.
I wish I could ride one of these, but my balance fails :crying:

You want a freeboard then. It's like snowboarding on concrete.
You want a freeboard then. It's like snowboarding on concrete.
Nah I prefer ordinary ones over those.
You want a freeboard then. It's like snowboarding on concrete.
Freeboards are kind of stupid because you can't propel them, they are solely gravity powered, you can't push yourself around.

I wish I didn't get so embarassed when I go out and skate, I never realised how many people drive down my road.
I wish I didn't get so embarassed when I go out and skate, I never realised how many people drive down my road.
Think about it like this, are you ever going to see those same people again? As they drive past, the only thought in their head is probably, "Oh, a kid skating." Don't worry about what people think; you're out to have fun and relax, not be paranoid.

I've tried out my friends twice and I'm good. Snowboarding is a skill that really carries over to this.

Haha. Man. I was longboarding around campus and ate it pretty hard (slid, smashed into a trailer) and the board flew into a huge group of people. I was pretty embarrassed but it was hilarious.
I wanna longboard but I'm afraid I'm gonna be crap at it.
[editline]05:14PM[/editline]
Skateboarding never worked out for me.
It's really pretty easy. If anyone you know has a longboard ask if you can try it out. If you can move anywhere on a skateboard you can longboard. Skateboarding in my opinion is kind of stupid. You spend three months learning how to do something and 95% of the time you can't do it right. Rolling down the street and then bam *flippytrick*. Longboarding is something much more fun.
I was pretty much ok at just riding the skateboard, but I couldn't even get an ollie down.
I was pretty much ok at just riding the skateboard, but I couldn't even get an ollie down.
You're good then. It's all about balance and control, and less about flippyshit.
I was pretty much ok at just riding the skateboard, but I couldn't even get an ollie down.
That's how I was. I skateboarded for about a year and a half practicing every day, I finally got it recently but can't do it while moving no matter how hard I try. I got on a longboard and was just cruising and having fun, not having to worry about doing any tricks. Cruising was always my thing on a skateboard anyways.

It's very fun and satisfying to learn tricks, don't knock anything until you try it. You can say the same shit about any sport.
