opinions on sidewinder gullwings?
My friend has them. Their incredibly unstable, require a very specific setup (or uncomfortable amount of risers) and don't carve well enough to justify getting them over something like Paris or Randalls.
Is that what you would recommend for my setup? If you remember my setup.
opinions on sidewinder gullwings?
Tall, carvey, terrible for speed. [editline]16th January 2012[/editline]
less than $250 for a complete
Oh yes. Excellent. Now you want to be able to get through town, does that mean you want a kick tail so you can ollie up onto curbs and stuff?
no not really, i would prefer a bidirectional board-
http://longboardskater.com/ Start looking around for stuff you might like. Do you plan to learn to slide? So uhh, Scratch said that he didn't really want to go to the trouble of making a whole new deck shape just for me, but if I hit up Roggs or Arcane and said he sent me, they might be able to help. I'm probably just going to go XVD or Drang though.

It takes like a month though well maybe not now since its winter but in the early school year it took what felt like forever since Everett is in high school like myself.
Alright that gives a good idea of what is good for you. Which is a board that is low, has kicks, freestyle type deck. Most people want to learn some sort of tricks eventually so thats why a decent freestyle deck would be good for you. Since its flat that means something low would be nice. That jet doppler is a good choice but I'll look around some more for you.
I have a really nice skateboard that I used to dick around on, but I could never learn how to do any tricks. I spent a good week several hours a day trying to learn how to ollie and I just couldn't. That being said, I don't think doing tricks is for me, even on a longboard
http://longboardskater.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LS&Product_Code=KBS8&Category_Code=H0 No worries, I didn't know jack shit about bearing spacers for awhile than I asked some guy I knew and he educated me. Those are what you need. All you gotta do is pop one bearing out and place it in between and tighten it back up.
Thanks, bud. Definitely ordering.
Tall, carvey, terrible for speed. [editline]16th January 2012[/editline] that element deck?
ye
ye
What do you normally do with this board? Bomb hills? Cruise? Dance? Freestyle? I usually bomb hills and cruise, love to slide too.
Caliber trucks, and the wheels depend entirely on what board you get and how big you can run wheels. Personally I'd get the bigzigs because more thane = more slides and more thane = higher top speed. Awesome choice in wheel though, gotta love classic thane. [editline]16th January 2012[/editline] You have a lot more choices with $200 because most completes are around that price. Like this awesome deck http://longboardskater.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LS&Product_Code=EWLRKC&Category_Code=E9 and this one http://longboardskater.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LS&Product_Code=EWSMDPC&Category_Code=E9 I'm just saying if you just go mow some lawns or something you can easily get a board that you will love because with that budget your limited, not saying those boards are bad because they are freaking rad. Its just that I want you to love the ride you buy, and with a little more cash we can build a deck that you can grow into as a rider and learn all sorts of slides and bomb all sorts of hills with ease.
Any advice on a board? I'm about 100 pounds, hoping to but some meat on my bones though. Freestyle hopefully, but I got some nice hilly areas where I live, nothin too steep but some spots are downhill for a long distance. And what do the different truck sizes mean? Also, can I afford a new board or just get a second hand one?

The shapes of the boards, the height, the length, all of that is just nonsense to me because only just today did I decide longboarding might be pretty cool at any rate, if I want to do some tricks I'll just whip out my skateboard

Your weight is fine now you might want a shorter deck though because of your height. Look at the comet grease shark, although this altogether is a bit past your budget you'd probably dig that setup. Im 5'8" actually, but I'll look at that ride.
I'm 5'9" I am looking at these boards http://longboardskater.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LS&Product_Code=EWLRKC&Category_Code=E9 http://longboardskater.com/mm5/merchant.mvc?Screen=PROD&Store_Code=LS&Product_Code=JASD395C&Category_Code=JS but I'm not sure if these are good for going fast on roads/sidewalks on flat terrain I also want to learn to carve and I don't know if these boards or good for that, or for that matter, if all boards are good for that (although since carving is a longboard thing I would assume most boards are good for carving) [editline]17th January 2012[/editline] I was just inspired a lot by videos of people hill bombing going REALLY fast, although it's a bit disappointing that it seems like I won't be able to get going that fast on flat terrain, although I would like to go as fast as absolutely possible
Woops inmeant freeride not freestyle. [editline]17th January 2012[/editline] How does the grease shark handle on flat land? Just pumping/carving or whatever you call that thing that gets you momentum? Because it'd be useful if I could just ride it as a form of transport from time to time (not far or anything, just for like a friends house or walking my dog or something).
I like that first one, would that be good for learning to slide?
Fuck yeah. Beast coast setup right there. The earthwing one is a drop deck so its a breeze to push on but the doppler has kicks which is nice for fun stuff in urban areas. Both great choices. If you want a deck that can pump you need a short wheel base, bennet trucks, and grippy as fuck wheels. Thats a whole deal I'm not used to and should head over to the fish to talk about in the slalom threads. [editline]17th January 2012[/editline] would provide more information for all you guys but I have work, gotta make money for more wheels.
Eh, it's not necessary. Which trucks do I get, they only say 9" or 10", not 180mm.
Eh, it's not necessary. Which trucks do I get, they only say 9" or 10", not 180mm.
Are you trying to say you're getting Gullwing trucks or you're getting Original trucks?
I'm getting calibers.
I'm getting calibers.
Ah. Then 10" is what you want.
Eh, it's not necessary. Which trucks do I get, they only say 9" or 10", not 180mm.
10" erryday 50 cals
What bearings? I'm at 252 dollars without bearings, a bit over the budget.
What bearings? I'm at 252 dollars without bearings, a bit over the budget.
If you're willing to go further, Bones Super Reds. They're perfect. Can't complain about some nice, cheap Abec9s, though.
Only abec 7's, the abec 9 is 37 while the super red is 35.
What bearings? I'm at 252 dollars without bearings, a bit over the budget.
Anything. Speedy Lunatics from LBS are fine, I run them in all my boards and I still kick my friends asses down the hill. All you gotta do is clean them every once in awhile.
Welp, new girlfriend is officially fucking awesome. Buying herself The Pintail 37 longboard from OriginalSkateboards And is insisting on buying me those Original S10 250mm trucks from OriginalSkateboards, even though I keep telling her to stop spending money on me. Can't complain I guess
